Tokyo Olympic Test Event has been canceled

The Tokyo Olympics’ water polo test event has been canceled because sports officials cannot enter Japan due to the coronovirus ban, the report said on Tuesday. The incident is only the latest victim of the virus ban, which has forced the cancellation or postponement of an Olympic qualifier and a series of tests. Local media reported that the two-day water polo event was scheduled to open on Saturday, but has been scrapped due to Japan’s strict travel rules, which prohibit all foreign nationals from entering the country.

The ban meant time-keepers and record-keepers who were due to travel to Japan may not attend the event, although the Kyodo news agency said it could be rescheduled to a later date.

Tokyo Olympic organizers declined to comment.

Test events for the virus-delayed games first started epidemic, ever since a wheelchair rugby event took place at Tokyo’s Yoyogi National Stadium.

But there is doubt as to whether the remaining 17 test schedules can be determined.

Last week, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) said it was considering transferring its Olympic qualifier from Japan.

Those events include the Diving World Cup scheduled for this month and the artistic swimming qualification scheduled for May.

The FINA’s competition calendar already lists both events, as well as the cancellation of the Olympic Marathon swimming qualifier in Fukuoka, Japan, on May 29–30.

The governing body reportedly told member states last week that it had received “worrisome” information about the organizer’s proposed Kovid-19 countermeasures.

On Monday, the Japan Triathlon Union also announced that a triathlon World Cup event to be held in Osaka in May has been canceled due to a virus ban.

The competition was not an Olympic test event, but helped to decide which athletes would qualify for the games, and was to feature 130 triathletes from 30 different countries.
