The manifesto states that CPM will also ban the NEET and other competitive examinations.
CPM’s Secretary of State. Balakrishnan released the party’s assembly election manifesto on Friday, which discussed other aspects, including prohibition, defending state autonomy and live telecasts of assembly proceedings.
The CPM is contesting six assembly seats as part of the DMK-led coalition. While the DMK’s manifesto is silent on prohibition, both Congress and CPM manifestos mention it.
The CPM manifesto cited alcohol as the main cause of crimes against women and stated that it would prohibit the sale of drugs and phase out prohibition besides urging for the rehabilitation of those addicted to alcohol and drugs.
When asked about the ban on the DMK manifesto, Mr. Balakrishnan said that the coalition has got together to defeat the AIADMK-BJP alliance and the partners may have different objectives.
On governors
According to the manifesto, the CPM will urge the Center to appoint one of the three persons nominated by the Chief Minister as Governor in accordance with the recommendations of the Sarkaria Commission. It will also urge the Governor and the President to make timely requests on the bills passed by the state government.
The manifesto also stated that the party would urge the removal of governors as vice-chancellors of universities and ban the governors from expressing their opinion on the decisions of the state government in public forums.
The CPM will also seek to roll back education to the state list and ban the NEET and other competitive examinations.
The manifesto also called on the state government to focus on the sale of beach sand and granite mining, which would result in higher revenue.
CPM said that it will work on eradication of corruption and will seek effective functioning of Lokayukta.
Assembly proceedings
The manifesto also calls for live telecasts of the proceedings of the assembly on all television channels and publication of online and government orders on government portals.
The manifesto also stated that the party would work for withdrawal of agricultural laws of the Center and development of agriculture, protection of MSMEs and overall industrial development in the state.
The manifesto states that the party will urge the release of seven convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi murder case.
For employment generation, it will urge to fill all the vacancies in government departments and demand to fill the vacancies in the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission in a transparent manner on the basis of reservation policy.
The party’s manifesto also talks about women safety, protection of human rights and labor rights, sports development, banning manual scavenging, welfare of the disabled and minorities.
The CPM also called for introducing robotic courses in higher education and skill upgrades for the workforce to prevent job losses due to automation.
