All-rounder Thisara Perera became the first Sri Lankan cricketer to hit six sixes in an over during a home match in Colombo. The 31-year-old, playing for the Sri Lankan army team, has notched up an unbeaten 52-run total of 13 balls eight times against Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club over the weekend. Perera is the second player to achieve the feat in 2021 and, coincidentally, he was on the field when it was earlier this month when Kieron Pollard hit Sri Lanka’s Akila Dananjaya in a Twenty20 international in Antiga.

Perera scored just one run that day, but now Garfield Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh, Ross Whiteley, Hazratullah Zazai, Leo Carter and Pollard as well as nine batsmen to score 36 runs in the professional batsman’s over. Joined a special club.
Perera has played six Tests, 166 One Day Internationals and 84 Twenty20 Internationals for Sri Lanka, but his power-hit performance was useless on the occasion as the match was abandoned due to rain.
