This is the next tech trend that other brands may follow after Apple - Times of India

Apple is betting big on mini-LED displays and is gearing up to deploy mini-LEd displays on MacBooks and iPads. But Apple reportedly may not be the only brand interested in mini-LED displays. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, after Apple, other brands will also adopt mini-LED panels. As per a report by MacRumors, more investors will be interested in this new display technology as Apple will be adding mini-LED displays on iPads and MacBooks. Having said that Kuo states that mini-LED panel shipments will be driven by MacBooks more than iPads.
“We believe that MacBooks, not iPads, mainly drive Mini LED panel shipments. MacBook shipments have not grown much in the past few years. However, we expect MacBook shipments to grow significantly by 20% YoY, or more in 2021 and 2022, due to the adoption of Mini LED panels, Apple Silicon, and all-new designs,” Kuo’s latest investor note said as per MacRumors.
According to Kuo, Apple is said to be “actively looking for second suppliers of key Mini LED components”. Now, if Apple is going big on mini-LED displays, other brands will also be somehow forced to adopt mini-lED displays for their notebooks.
“We predict that the production cost of Micro LED will improve significantly starting in 2023–2024, so it will likely be a market focus from 2023 onwards. We believe Apple is developing Micro LED technology, but the production schedule is not yet confirmed,” added Kuo.
Kuo in a recent research note claimed redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will enter mass production in Q3 2021. Apple introduced a mini LED display with the 12.9-inch iPad Pro this year. Kuo predicts that the new MacBook Pro will come in a “flat-edged design”, something similar to what has been seen on the latest iMac, iPad Pro and iPhone 12.
