Manchester City move to Budapest in the second leg of the Champions League against Gladbach

UEFA said on Wednesday that Manchester City’s Champions League final-16 second leg against Borussia Moenchengladbach has turned from Etihad Stadium to Budapest. Man City won the first leg which was also held 2–0 in the Hungarian capital. UEFA, the governing body of European football, confirmed the match “will now be played at Puskas Arena in Budapest”. Date and time kick off – 16 March 2000 at GMT – stay the same.

It is the latest fixture to take a neutral position in the Champions League and Europa League this season.

A statement from the European governing body said, “UEFA would like to thank Manchester City and Borussia Moenchengladbach for their support and close cooperation.

The switch was required due to the German Kovid-19 ban as Gladbach players would have to quarantine for 10 days upon their return from England.

Following City’s comfortable first leg win, the German club have a major task to do next week.

They finished 10th in the Bundesliga after continuing a pathetic race even after losing 1-0 to Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend.

Gladbach has now lost all five games as it was announced that head coach Marco Rose would take over Dortmund next season.

Pep Guardiola’s 21-match winning streak at the Premier League-led city ended on Sunday following a loss to Manchester United.

In addition Citi and Gladbach Budapest have also hosted Liverpool’s first leg against RB Leipzig, while the second leg will be staged at the Hungarian National Stadium instead of Anfield on Wednesday.

Tottenham were in Budapest last month for the first leg of their Europa League tie against Austrian side Wolfsberger.
