Naik has taken “Red” out of the Red Sox.
Baseball, rooted in tradition to a fault, is making a drastic change this year with Nike at the top of its uniform, offering “City Connect” uniforms for seven teams in 2021.
Nike has already created controversy in the MLB because of its logo on the front of the uniform, and is taking a massive swing at new designs that surround the spirit and personality of fan bases and cities.

The uniform is used on Boston’s annual Patriot Day, during which the Boston Marathon takes place. The colors of the uniform are blue and yellow, designed to mirror the finish line of the Boston Marathon. He also has a “617” patch on the arm for Boston’s area code.
The White Sox, Dodgers, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Giants and Marlins are all scheduled to receive “City Connect” uniforms at some point in 2021, with every team expected to receive a “City Connect” uniform by 2023.
Of course, people won’t like it, because a certain baseball fan Encouragement Button-up and enjoy being boring and lame. But listen: MLB needs to do something to get their game right on the field, right? The new Padres and Brewers uniforms are uber sexy, while the Met plans to reintroduce black uniforms this season. The new uniform is, in a word, good.
Nothing catches the eye like an equal, and whatever new fans or young fans get is a good thing. Certainly, people may not like it, and designs may improve in the future. But this is a game or a series out of 162. Like the player’s weekend uniform, just let it happen. You can finally have fun
Expect unhappy fans from reluctant fans to change once again. But, as Sox owner John Henry said in “Moneyball”: The first man through the wall is always bloody.
