The invincible Yatnal again predicts the change of guard

Even after the show cause notice by the party, the BJP leaders remain unperturbed and Arun Singh chases them

Amid the campaigning of BJP MLA Basnagowda Patil Yatanal for the by-elections, he nonetheless anticipated a leadership change in Karnataka and said that it is necessary if the party is to survive in the state.

Speaking in Vijayapura, he predicted that it would happen after the elections. He claimed that the party high command wants to replace chief ministers in three states, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Haryana, one of which has already taken place and the other two will be replaced after assembly elections in some states.

The BJP issued a show cause notice as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him and undermined Mr Yatanal, a frequent critic of Mr Yeddyurappa, publicly, many times by party in-charge Arun Singh.

“The high command knows that leadership must change if the party is to survive in the state. Mr. Singh is also aware that this is imminent, but has been ruled out in public forums. Mr. Singh last week snatched Mr. Yatanal in public, saying that he did not need to be taken seriously.

The high command’s delay in taking disciplinary action against Mr. Yatnal left no stone unturned to end the chief minister’s camp, especially since the notice has done little to silence his public criticism.

‘Congress agent’

On Sunday, the MP’s political secretary to the chief minister, MP Renukacharya, struck back Mr Yatnal, calling him a “Congress agent” and that a group of legislators were scheduled to meet on Monday to give a reasonable reply to Mr Yatnal. “In the midst of Mr. C.’s by-election campaign, Yatanal is deliberately causing confusion, even though the high command has made it clear that there will be no change in leadership,” he said, demanding that the party “for his” anti-party activities Expel them.

A senior BJP MLA said it was surprising that Mr Yatanal seemed unaffected by the party’s notice on disciplinary action. He said that he responded to the notice with more serious allegations against the chief minister and his son. He has since made a mark with the Panchamali movement and embarrassed the party by criticizing the government and the Chief Minister on the floor of the House.
