Eight members of an Indian boxing squad, including three boxers, tested positive for COVID-19 during a competition trip to Turkey and were released in Istanbul. Commonwealth Games silver medalists Gaurav Solanki (57 kg), Prayag Chauhan (75 kg) and Brijesh Yadav (81 kg) tested positive for the virus a week ago, due to which their post after the event ended on 19 March get left. Coach Dharmendra Yadav and a source from the Santosh team reported that Birol, physiotherapist Shikha Kedia and Dr. Umesh is also accompanied by video analyst Nitin Kumar.

He was in Istanbul to compete in the Bosphorus tournament. Solanki claimed a bronze medal among men.

Among the women, Nikhat Zeren (51 kg) also won a bronze medal, giving India two medals in total.

Others traveling for the tournament were Lalit Prasad (52 kg), Shiva Thapa (63 kg), Duryodhan Singh Negi (69 kg), Naman Tanwar (91 kg) and Krishnan Sharma (+ 91 kg).

The women’s group includes Zarin, Sonia Lather (57 kg), Parveen (60 kg), Jyoti Grewal (69 kg) and Pooja Saini (75 kg).

Those who have tested positive will have to wait at least a week before they undergo a fresh COVID-19 test to ascertain their recovery and clear the route for a flight home.
