Tamil Nadu Petroproducts Limited (TPL) has launched a ₹ 435-crore expansion-cum-modernization scheme at its plant in Manali, which includes capacity addition of liner alkaline benzene (LAB) division, a revamp and installation of caustic soda facilities. Of a propylene recovery unit (PRU).
The LAB capacity will be increased from 1.2 lakh tonnes per annum (tpa) to 1.45 lakh tpa at a cost of approximately ₹ 240 crores. A statement said that the project will be commissioned in about 24 months.
For the Department of Heavy Chemicals, TPL will invest ₹ 165 million to modernize the caustic soda and chlorine unit by replacing monopoly membrane technology with bipolar membrane technology.
Upon completion in about 18 months after approval, caustic soda production capacity will range from the current 150 tonnes to 250 tonnes per day.
The company said that PRU will have an outlay of around ₹ 30 crore and will be installed in the propylene oxide manufacturing complex.
“TPL will be the first Indian non-refining company in the private sector to build a propylene recovery unit plant,” said Ashwin Muthiah, founder president of TPL and vice president of AM International. “A significant portion of the expansion cost will be met through internal resources,” he said.
