Tamil Nadu Assembly Election |  We will ask the Center to cancel CAA, says Palaniswami

AIADMK leader and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said on Monday that if voted back to power, the party would ask the Center to repeal the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 based on the request of minorities.

Mr. Palaniswami filed his nomination papers to contest from Edappadi constituency for the seventh time in the upcoming assembly elections. He told media persons that as an MLA, he had worked hard for the development of the constituency.

In response to a question, including the CAA’s withdrawal in the AIADMK election manifesto after voting in its favor in Parliament, Mr. Palaniswami said that the party had stated in the manifesto that it would ask the Center to withdraw the act on the basis of requests. From minorities.

Mr. Palaniswami said that the manifesto has been welcomed by people from all walks of life. On the feasibility of implementing the declarations despite the state’s debt burden, he asked which state in the country was not in debt. However, the development work was progressing without any delay, he said. Mr. Palaniswami said that the AIADMK-led coalition was strong, if it had won from the constituency, it would have met the demands of the people.

Mr. Palaniswami started his campaign in the constituency after offering prayers at the Sendreyan Perumal Temple here. He distributed leaflets to the public near the temple and asked for votes. While campaigning in Nangavalli, Mr. Palaniswami said that internet connectivity would be provided in 17,662 revenue villages in the state and people would be able to make international calls easily thereafter.

He also appealed to the public to take COVID-19 vaccination. Sharing his experience, the Chief Minister said that he was doing fine after vaccination.

In Jalkandapuram, responding to DMK president MK Stalin’s claim that they would win in all 234 constituencies, the AIADMK leader asked him to secure the first victory in Edappadi. He Said [results of the election] 2016 will be repeated in the 2021 assembly elections.

He said that loans up to ₹ 1 lakh taken by the weavers would be waived off and 1,000 units of free electricity would be provided for the power looms.

Listing the schemes implemented by him in the constituency, he denied Mr. Stalin’s allegation that nothing had been done. He said that the DMK had included in its manifesto schemes which were already implemented by the government.

Mr. Palaniswami urged people to compare how the constituency has changed between 2011 and 2021, adding that the constituency now looked like “Singapore”. He appealed to the people to choose it again and give it the status of “Chief Minister’s Constituency”.
