Tamil Nadu Assembly Election |  MNM announces candidates for 70 constituencies

Ponraj, Santosh Babu, Snehan and 25-year-old Padmapriya will contest in Anna Nagar, Villivakkam, Virugambakkam and Maduravayal

Kamkal Haasan, the founder of Makkal Nidi Mime, announced on Wednesday the list of 70 candidates who will contest the ‘battery torch’ election allotted to the party in Chennai.

Although Mr. Haasan decided to prolong the suspense after not disclosing this constituency from where he would contest and save it for a later date, he announced that his party’s star candidates, such as the newly appointed VP , V. Ponraj, Kalam, a former advisor to APJ Abdul, former IAS officer Santosh Babu, who recently left the service, will contest from film lyricist Snehan and 25-year-old environmental activist, Padampriya, from Anna Nagar, Villivakkam, Virugambakkam and Maduraval respectively.

The party has also fielded seven Muslim candidates in RK Nagar, Hosur, Penagaram, Namakkal, Aravakurichi, Kunnam and Nagappathinam.

Another in-line official of the party said that he made efforts to ensure that religious and linguistic minorities and women were given adequate representation. The other vice president of the party, Drs. Mahendran’s constituency, which is close to 1.3 lakh votes from the Coimbatore parliamentary constituency, as well as entrepreneurs CK Kumaravel, actors Shreepriya, Kamela Naseer and Mr. Haasan are also likely to come forward.

Asked whether Mr Hassan was likely to choose the constituency, party sources said it was still Alandur, T.W. The toss is between Nagar and Mylapur constituency. Sources said that discussions are continuing on whether they should contest from the two constituencies.
