It demanded provision of CCTV live coverage or live web streams during polling at all polling stations, setting up of jammers in strong rooms and counting centers where EVMs would be stored
The DMK on Wednesday wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and other Election Commission officials, demanding the use of the recently constructed EVMs for the upcoming assembly elections.
It has arranged for CCTV live coverage or live web stream during polling in all polling stations, jammer in strong rooms and counting centers and where at least 50% of VVPATs are counted simultaneously.
Representing the Election Commission, DMK Publicity Secretary Tiruchi Siva said that the lifetime of EVMs is only 15 years as per the information in the public sector. EVMs manufactured by BEL and ECIL have been used in all elections across the country since 2001. Mr. Siva said there is a fear of tampering with these EVMs and manipulation of the recorded data by hacking them with the latest technology. He said that Western countries and people with advanced technology do not like electronic voting and only use ballot paper.
“In order to allay fears from the public and dissolve confidence in the voters, it has been requested to use the recently built EVMs, which will possess the latest technological and security updates and hence be less vulnerable to hackers. , Or any type of malfunction attack, ”he said.
The party also announced a 50% counting of EVMs as well as VVPAT to find a foolproof way of announcing the results. He said that recording of votes would instill confidence in the minds of the people about the reality.
In addition, each table at the counting center should have CCTV coverage instead of one for multiple tables, high-power signal jammers should be provided in polling stations, strong rooms and counting centers, the DMK said.
