Bureaucrat-turned-politician Santosh Babu is currently in the hospital.
Bureaucrat-turned-politician Santosh Babu, who joined Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Nidi Maim and is contesting from the Velachery constituency, announced on Twitter that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He admitted himself to a hospital.
“I have asked my family members and those who were campaigning with me to test myself. I have already started an online campaign, ”Dr. Babu told Hindu. On Thursday, he interacted with the residents of the hospital through a WhatsApp video call. “Starting tomorrow, the plan is to go live on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media forums,” he said.
Mr. Babu, who is known for advancing the concept of paperless office during his tenure as a bureaucrat, now clearly has an opportunity to test its feasibility on the biggest canvas – the assembly elections.
He has asked his party members to issue pamphlets to all voters in the constituency. The pamphlet will contain a QR code that will direct the user to its website, which has all the relevant details including its manifesto. Since his entire campaign will be online, he is also working on 3D visuals that will go live in a day or two. Mr. Haasan initially announced that Drs. Babu will contest from another seat in the city, and he later announces that he will contest from Velachery. Last year, he took voluntary retirement from government service, with eight years to go for retirement, in protest against the government’s intervention in the BharatNet project of ₹ 2,000 crore.
