The authorities have to travel 54 km in TN and 29 km in the neighboring state to Kuttaiyur.
Reaching a polling station in Anthiyur Assembly Constituency can be an important task for election officials. They have to travel 54 km by road in Tamil Nadu and 29 km in Karnataka to Kuttaiyur in Bargur panchayat.
Located on the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border and 83 km from Anthiyur, the Government Tribal Residential Middle School serves as a polling station for 489 voters in the village and Velampatti.
The authorities have to cover 54 km from Anthiyur to Kargenkadi in Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka and travel 24 km from there to Jallipalayam. Then, they have to travel five km to reach the border, cross a stream and walk 750 meters to reach Kuttaiyur. “It takes about three hours for an officer who recently visited Kuttaiyur to reach the booth,” said an election official. After voting, the material should be transported to the counting center of Gobichattipalayam, which is 47 km away. The officer says a mini-lorry will be used for transportation, while forest and police handcuffed transceivers will be used for communication as the village does not have a mobile phone link.
The village, with a population of 450, is located 27 km from the Kadambur Hills. From here one can be reached by five-km forest route from Makkampalayam. Officially EVM and VVPAT will be harmed, but Stolder and four streams will damage EVM and VVPAT.
Commuting is a difficult task for the villagers, who depend on a pick-up vehicle to reach Makkampalayam and then take the buses of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to reach the government offices in Anthiyur. They go to Jallipalayam, to buy groceries and visit hospitals. Inaccessibility has forced the students of the village to drop out and become laborers. Child marriages also occur on a large scale.
