After making history in 2019 after enabling its residents to vote in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) is gearing up for the upcoming assembly election. This time, IMH doctors have identified 97 voters in the campus.
He said, many of them are excited about voting and are waiting for the day of voting. Being in an institute, we made history in 2019. Voting will make them feel empowered. This is because they will understand that their vote will make a difference. IMH’s director p. Poorna Chandrika said that voting in itself is a big boost for many of them. A total of 63 men and 34 women, who had voter ID cards, were identified. In 2019, the institute’s doctors assessed residents, especially those who had improved with treatment, to enter them into the voter list.
The Greater Chennai Corporation conducted a special campaign and nominated some residents. He said that some residents who voted in 2019 were discharged from the institute.
Meanwhile, the institute has planned to conduct awareness programs for these residents.
“There will be at least two events. One will now be held and the other will be held close to polling day. We, together with the corporation, a college and an NGO, will create democratic rights for voting, voting process and awareness among the candidates contesting in this constituency – Villivakkam. As in previous times, there will be a demonstration using an electronic voting machine. By creating an atmosphere for all of them, they will be able to understand it better.
He said that a polling station would be set up in the conference hall at IMH so that the townspeople could cast their votes.
