    Quadrantids Meteor Shower Origin

The Quadrantids Meteor shower has a convention of producing many bright fireballs that can be visible far away from the city lights. The large bursts of light happen when more extensive dust particles meet a fiery end in the upper atmosphere. As per sources, the Quadrantids of January originated from the asteroid 2003 EH1, which takes about 5.5 years to orbit the Sun once. The celestial body may be a “dead comet” or a “rock comet”, says NASA. The source for the Quadrantids is found by Astronomer and research scientist Peter Jenniskens. • UPI Transactions Witness Meteoric 650% Rise at Semi-Urban, Rural Stores in India: Report

UPI Transactions Witness Meteoric 650% Rise at Semi-Urban, Rural Stores in India: Report

New Delhi, Dec 6: The unified payments interface (UPI) transactions witnessed a meteoric 650 per cent rise at the semi-urban and rural stores in India this year, a report showed on Tuesday.

There was a growth of 25 per cent and 14 per cent in value and volume, respectively, in assisted financial transactions across semi-urban and rural retail counters in the country in 2022, according to the report by branchless banking and digital network PayNearby. Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, Other UPI Payment Apps To Continue To Allow Unlimited Transactions As NPCI Extends Volume Cap Rules Deadline Till December 2024.

While there was a 25 per cent increase in the demand for micro-ATMs and mPOS instruments, the EMI collections for financial institutions and NBFCs saw a steep growth of over 200 per cent.

However, there has been a slight dip in the average cash withdrawal per transaction, from Rs 2,620 in 2021 to Rs 2,595 in 2022.

“Bharat is aspirational, and the increased off-take of green shoot services like assisted commerce, OTT subscription, micro-lending validates our commitment to make these services easily available at a store nearby,” said Anand Kumar Bajaj, Founder, MD and CEO, PayNearby.

This indicates a behavioural shift in the consumers in these regions, with more citizens adopting assisted digital means for their banking and lifestyle requirements and getting incorporated into the formal economy, the report mentioned. The report also indicated a sharp growth of over 200 per cent in the cash collection business (including EMIs) with a monthly average of Rs 1,400 crore, indicating demand for lending and other financing solutions, bouncing back to the pre-pandemic levels.

“We have serviced close to Rs 70,000 crore of digital services in the first 10 months of this calendar year and the steady growth of cash withdrawal business, together with the fast track adoption of some of these green shoot services indicate a steady recovery of our economy post the devastating impact of the pandemic,” said Bajaj.

  • Crypto, Blockchain, NFT Jobs Witness 804% Growth in India Post COVID-19: Report

Bengaluru, June 21: Job postings for cryptocurrency, blockchain, NFTs have grown 804 per cent between April 2020 to April 2022, according to a report.

The report by global job portal Indeed also revealed an acceleration in the market’s demand. In 2022, the increase was 315 per cent.

Job postings in April 2022 were 15 times more than in 2019, highlighting the role of the pandemic in this sustained growth.

The Covid-19 pandemic has fast tracked the adoption of technology across functions in India, hence technology professionals are more in demand than ever before, especially with expertise in newer areas like cryptocurrency, NFTs and blockchain, the report showed. Cryptocurrency Fraud: Indian Investors Likely Lost Rs 1,000 Cr to Fake Crypto Exchanges, Says Report.

Application developer is the top job role across this field, followed by data engineer and full stack developer.

The data also shows that crypto roles appear to be one of the biggest share of hires in overall technology job roles, increasing from 41.22 per cent in 2019 – 2020 to 67.48 per cent in 2021 -2022.

“Being a technology first economy, Indian firms are rapidly investing in technologies that will put the country at the forefront of this new digital era. Technology hubs like Bengaluru and Hyderabad continue to lead with hiring in the sector while the national capital region is also seeing a fair share of interest in the sector,” said Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales for Indeed India, in a statement.

Although “blockchain promises to be an exciting new field of work and offers tremendous scope for application, the sector is still very nascent,” Kumar added.

It still has scaling issues and security concerns. Nevertheless, sectors such as finance, healthcare, and gaming are increasingly implementing decentralised finance, signalling the growing demand for jobs, the report said.

A global report by Gartner forecasts that the business value generated by blockchain will grow rapidly, reaching $176 billion by 2025, potentially creating more job prospects.

  • Witness the battle of Karur heavyweight

Witness the battle of Karur heavyweight

The Karur constituency is poised for a fierce battle, with AIADMK’s Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar and DMK’s former Transport Minister V.K. Senthil Balaji is waving swords.

Amidst mutual accusations over the use of money power, the constituency is undergoing fierce and hectic electrification.

Mr. Balaji returned to his home ground for the purpose of taking on his longtime political rival, Mr. Vijayabhaskar. In 2006 and 2011, he won from the constituency as a candidate for AIADMK. But in 2016, she was transferred to Aravakurichi by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who removed her from the post of district secretary. Chief Minister Edappadi K. He was disqualified as an MLA for rebelling against Palaniswami and turning loyalty to the AMMK. He later joined the DMK and won the by-election in Aravakurichi in 2019.

According to one industrialist, there has been a labor shortage in Karur since the election announcement, as a section of male workers was lured by the parties. It is a month-long festival for workers as they receive “money, liquor and biryani”.

Lack of drinking water is a major electoral issue here. Although Amravati passes through the city and Cauvery is nearby, residents are facing water scarcity as supplies are limited to once every five days.

Environmentalists are up in arms over the discharge of untreated wastes by dyeing units in Noyal and Amravati. The long pending demand among the residents about the construction of a new bus stand between the AIADMK and the DMK is another major issue.

The city, a major home textile manufacturing and export hub, was thronged by DMK and AIADMK with a crowd of thousands on Monday, when Mr. Balaji and Mr. Vijayabhaskar filed nominations.

Though MNM, NTK and DMDK have fielded their candidates, the real fight is between Mr. Balaji and Mr. Vijayabhaskar. These two are leaving no stone unturned to win the confidence of the voters.

The constituency has a large population of influential Kongu Vellala gounders, besides Mudaliars, Pillis, Vaniyars, Chettiyars and Dalits. Both Mr. Balaji and Mr. Vijayabhaskar are Kongu Velela gounders, and see the election as a ‘do or die’ battle.

Anticipating a fierce battle from Shri Balaji, Mr. Vijayabhaskar launched an image-promoting campaign several months ago by planting hundreds of trees along the roadside across the city. The MRV Trust, named after him, maintains the trees well. Mr. Vijayabhaskar has enhanced the confidence of a section of the electorate by “attending and sponsoring” social, cultural and community functions. A section of entrepreneurs owning textile and bus body building units feel that the minister has acted as a bridge to resolve the grievances.

It was during his tenure as a minister that the Government Medical College was established. Using his proximity to the Chief Minister, Mr. Vijayabaskar fulfilled most of his promises to voters, party officials.

Banking on his acquaintance with the voters, Mr. Balaji is going door-to-door to get the support of the voters. His tendency to repeatedly change political affiliations and his sudden rise in the party ranks has led to increased discontent among a section of the DM cadre.

Karur is the stronghold of the AIADMK. In elections held here since 1977, the party won seven, the DMK three and the Congress one. Mr. Vijayabaskar won the 2016 election with a narrow margin of 441 votes. But given the changed political equations and high stakes, the constituency is headed for a photo finish.
