  • 20 Youtube Channels, 2 Websites Banned Under New IT Rules For ‘Anti-India’ Contents, Say Reports

Invoking the emergency powers under the recently notified intermediary guidelines and digital media ethics code in the Information and Technology (IT) Act for the first time, 20 YouTube channels and two websites were banned by the Indian government for allegedly running ‘anti-India’ propaganda from Pakistan, according to reports. Government Issues High Severity Warning For Google Chrome Users

According to the reports, I&B secretary Apurva Chandra directed Youtube and the Department of Telecom to ban the content as it infringes upon the sovereignty and integrity of India.

The reports further state that the ‘Anti-India contents’ were being funded by Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

These channels were first flagged by the Indian security agencies, following which the I&B ministry conducted an inquiry, according to a report in The Economic Times.

One of the sites identified on YouTube was ‘Naya Pakistan’ that had more than 2 million subscribers on Youtube and was running ‘false news’ on various issues such as Kashmir, farmers protests in India, Article 370, and Ayodhya. Another portal that was banned is ‘Naya Pakistan Group’, which ran over 15 channels on YouTube and had a following of more than a million subscribers. The total subscriber base of these YouTube channels is estimated to be more than 3.5 million and they have a total viewership of 500 million, according to the officials. The content on the channels were seen by the ministry as a “concerted effort to sow unrest in India”. Indian IT Rules 2021 Do Not Conform With International Human Rights Norms, Says UN Special Rapporteurs

The decision to ban and block these channels and websites will be presented before the Inter Departmental Committee (IDC) within 48 hours, following which it will be ratified by a committee under the IT Rules, 2021 according to the officials.

  • GoDaddy Reveals Nearly 1.2 Million WordPress Websites Breached, Warn Users of Phishing Attacks

New Delhi, November 23: In a huge data breach, global web hosting platform GoDaddy has revealed that nearly 1.2 million of its WordPress customers’ sensitive information has been compromised. In a blog post, GoDaddy’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Demetrius Comes said that they’ve discovered unauthorised access to its managed WordPress servers.

“Up to 1.2 million active and inactive Managed WordPress customers had their email address and customer number exposed. The exposure of email addresses presents risk of phishing attacks,” Comes said late on Monday. On November 17, the company discovered unauthorised third-party access to our Managed WordPress hosting environment. Pakistani Group Targets India’s Critical Infrastructure and Cybersecurity Firm, Warns of Phishing Attack.

“We identified suspicious activity in our Managed WordPress hosting environment and immediately began an investigation with the help of an IT forensics firm and contacted law enforcement. Using a compromised password, an unauthorised third party accessed the provisioning system in our legacy code base for Managed WordPress,” the company explained.

GoDaddy has warned users that this exposure can put users at greater risk of phishing attacks. The investigation is ongoing, but “we have determined that, beginning on September 6, 2021, the unauthorised third party used the vulnerability to gain access to the following customer information”, the company informed.

The original WordPress Admin password that was set at the time of provisioning was also exposed. “If those credentials were still in use, we reset those passwords. For active customers, sFTP and database usernames and passwords were exposed. We reset both passwords,” said GoDaddy.

“We are sincerely sorry for this incident and the concern it causes for our customers. We will learn from this incident and are already taking steps to strengthen our provisioning system with additional layers of protection,” said Comes.

  • Hey, Government of India! Please Ban ‘Hate Porn’ on Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, TV News Channels and Websites to Save Our Country

India, the land of more than 500 languages is struggling to wipe out the dust of communal clashes which have overshadowed the shine and sparkle of its most important characteristic, Unity in Diversity. Every Indian who has watched news channels, read digital news websites or browsed Twitter, WhatsApp or Facebook over the past 4-5 days, is exposed to highly toxic ‘hate porn’, where all sorts of ideologies are trying to prove how abysmal the other side is. In this process, everyone is competing against each other to reach the zenith of hatred. Hatemongers are getting multiple orgasms on deaths, mutilated bodies, burnt schools and religious structures. They are celebrating the horrific acts on each other by telling them that this is the very outcome “we want against you.”

The comments on pictures and videos of a son crying in front of his father’s dead body or mother and sister sobbing inconsolably after finding their family member is mutilated will show less of sympathy and more of hostility. Videos of various places of worship vandalised, burnt and attacked by mobs are being celebrated as victory signs by those espousing extremist ideologies. Scenes which should make all Indians put our heads down in shame are being used for mudslinging against each other, these unverified videos are now being used to flash as breaking news and exclusives on various TV channels dying for TRPs. Within minutes, these videos become the most shared material on WhatsApp University and land as arsenal for mass destruction on other social media apps like Twitter, Facebook etc. No amount of fact check can correct the destruction done by these unverified, edited, fake and sometimes true but insensitive videos and photos.

As some of our politicians have already voiced that watching too much of porn leads to rapes, similarly, watching too much of hate will only lead to violence, riots and clashes. There is no parental control over consuming news. I am from an era where elders used to insist kids watch News on Doordarshan rather than the TV soaps, but now I feel watching news channels showing and flashing the videos of such gory acts and debates full of hate against each other’s religion will make me sceptical of asking my kid to consume news.

Reporters should not be supporters, but today we have a clear demarcation of few news channels and websites which are termed as far-right and the others which are far left. Do we really have a news channel or digital portal which is neutral and doesn’t want to cash in on the riots and clips leaking from unverified sources making them potential hate-mongering material for the extremists?

The act of violence shown and consumed on these various news platforms in the name of fearless journalism and bringing the breaking and exclusive news is knowingly and unknowingly spreading more hatred and also enticing and encouraging the consumers of this content to get polarised and in fact, they are not scared to share these gory images and videos with their friends and family on the family/society/office WhatsApp groups with one or the other polarised or fake message attached to it. What it does is, it makes these hate crimes, speeches acceptable in society. What we see, what we read daily remains in our subconscious mind and things which should shock and break us are now just regular stuff of daily news consumption and encourage and inspire other extremists to join the riots and violence against fellow humans, feeling more empowered and motivated assuming this is all normal and no crime, rather it is their duty to join this mass destruction to serve their ideology.

Seeing a bleeding dead body or a burning school should send a chill down our spine, but what we see is hatred, wanting for more such cruelty, the threat of more such incidents if you don’t align to my ideology and hate cheering on the posts and comments of such horrific and heart-wrenching videos and photos. They have just become new ‘hate porn’ for the hatemongers and extremists who are thirsty and hungry for fellow human’s blood and flesh.

We at Morning Tidings tried to get away from showing this hatred on our platforms and decided to refrain from using any images or videos from riot-hit Delhi. Meanwhile, we continue to report the authentic information regarding fatalities, traffic and important updates related to security and necessary announcements by central or state government, judiciary or police. We have urged all netizens to not share any inflammatory messages and unverified information, videos, photos and images which can disturb the peace and integrity of our country, India.

Morning Tidings’s Stand on Reporting on Riots and Violence

But going by the sheer reach of all these ‘Number 1’ news channels (yes, every news channel in India is number one news channel as claimed by them), the effect of the coverage of riots and violence in masses will only increase hatred and in fact manipulate the judiciary while doing these media trials. In a recent bizarre case where one of the buildings in a riot-hit area of Delhi which is suspected to be crime spot was reduced to a mockery of forensic science by ‘fearless’ journalists analysing the so-called petrol bombs and acid packets with bare hands! The alleged murder spot which ideally should be cordoned off and sealed for investigation by experts was given free access to shoot one more ‘hate porn’ scene for these news channels and digital news portals.

In my humble opinion, exposing the masses to these gory scenes, bloodsheds, unreliable and edited videos in the name of exclusives and breaking news or freedom of speech is doing nothing better than breaking the integrity and unity of our country. Yes, the miscreants should be punished, reports should be filed against crime but these ‘reports’ should not sound as ‘supports’ for one ideology. No one should justify, celebrate or be happy on seeing bloodshed. Even if the victim is at fault, he or she should not be attacked or killed in riots. The law and authorities should take action, and if they are not moving, raise your voice against the authorities but don’t take their job in your hands.  Let’s be civil, we humans are ‘animals’ but don’t forget we are ‘social animals’.

We have some responsibilities towards the society and fellow humans. Let us be more cautious in what we are sharing, what we are seeing on TV news channels and on Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp groups. While if we fail to control our urge to watch and share this hateful content, we should appeal our government and authorities to put a ban on the ‘hate porn’ which is being served and consumed every minute by us. Once a wise man said,  “An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind”. Let us be wise and give up this new vice, hate porn.

As per reports by German  media, the names could be xHamster and three websites, YouPorn, Pornhub and MyDirtyHobby.

Earlier, in the efforts to make pornhub.com safer the XXX website had decided to have a “biometric system” in place to verify users.  The latest crackdown reportedly follows a failure by the site, believed to be xHamster, to introduce age verification checks to prevent under 18s from accessing pornography, as per The SUN.

Not just Germany but Canada, France, the UK and some US states, are looking to introduce measures aimed at preventing children from accessing adult material online.  The XXX porn site, Pornhub.com recently took down millions of videos from unverified users in an ongoing investigation.  Pornhub said that the claims are untrue but are now verifying the content that’s been uploaded to the XXX site. Even major credit card companies Visa and MasterCard investigated their business relationship with Pornhub and revealed that they would no longer allow their cards to be used on the XXX  platform.

Pornhub.com shutdown row has surged after over two million people signed the petition against the adult porn website to shut it down.
