    US Senator Ed Markey Warns Elon Musk for Mocking Him on Twitter, Says ‘Fix Your Companies, or Congress Will’

    San Francisco, Nov 14: US Senator Ed Markey has warned Elon Musk for mocking him on Twitter, telling him to “fix your companies, or Congress will”.

    “One of your companies is under an FTC consent decree. Auto safety watchdog NHTSA is investigating another for killing people. And you’re spending your time picking fights online. Fix your companies. Or Congress will,” the Democrat from Massachusetts tweeted.     On Sunday, Musk had mocked Markey after the latter wrote a letter to the new Twitter CEO, slamming him for launching the $8 Blue service with verification.

    In his letter, the Democrat said: “A Washington Post reporter easily created a fake Twitter account in my name, and by paying $8 was also able to obtain Twitter’s blue checkmark, signifying that Twitter had ‘verified’ the account was indeed that of a sitting US Senator.”

    Replying to the Senator, Musk said: “Perhaps it is because your real account sounds like a parody?” Elon Musk Refuses To Hire Former T-Mobile President John Legere As Twitter CEO.

    About an hour later, the billionaire tweeted again, asking “And why does your pp (profile picture) have a mask?” in reference to the Senator’s Twitter profile photo, which shows him wearing a face covering.

  • Bugs in Google Chrome for Desktop, Warns India’s Cyber Agency

    New Delhi, August 20: The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has warned users about multiple vulnerabilities in Google Chrome for desktop that can let hackers gain access to their computers. The multiple vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code and Security restriction bypass on the targeted system, according to an advisory by CERT-In, that comes under IT Ministry.

    “These vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to use after free in FedCM, SwiftShader, ANGLE, Blink, Sign-In Flow, Chrome OS Shell; Heap buffer overflow in Downloads, Insufficient validation of untrusted input in Intents, Insufficient policy enforcement in Cookies and Inappropriate implementation in Extensions API,” the cyber agency said.

    A hacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending specially crafted requests on the targeted system. Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code and Security restriction bypass on the targeted system, said CERT-In. China’s Cyber Watchdog Tries to Assuage Concerns of Internet Firms.

    “The vulnerability (CVE-2022-2856) is being exploited in the wild. The users are advised to apply patches urgently,” said the agency. CERT-In also warned about bugs in Apple iOS, iPadOS and macOS and a “remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability by enticing a victim to open a specially-crafted file”.

    It also found multiple vulnerabilities in Cisco products again, which could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code, information disclosure and cross site scripting attack on an affected system. The nation’s premier cyber agency had alerted about bugs in Cisco products in the recent past too.

  • Sri Lanka Warns Public From Using Cryptocurrencies Amid Economic Crisis

    Colombo: The Central Bank of Sri Lanka has warned the public from using cryptocurrencies amid the grave economic crisis in the country, saying that this market is “largely unregulated”. The bank, CBSL, said in a notice that the public is “warned of the possible exposure to significant financial, operational, legal and security related risks as well as customer protection concerns posed to the users by investments in Virtual Currencies (VCs)”. Cryptocurrency prices in India today (13 Jul 2022).

    The public is also warned not to fall prey to various types of VC schemes offered through the Internet as well as other forms of media, the bank added.

    The warning came as new Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on Wednesday ordered imposition of curfew in the Western Province with immediate effect and emergency law island wide.

    Security forces were directed to arrest people acting in a riotous manner and seize the lorries they were travelling in. On July 9, braving similar forces, people took control of the President’s house, his office and Prime Minister’s official residence symbolically overtaking the government and the presidency.

    The CBSL said that virtual currencies are largely unregulated digital representations of value that are issued by private entities and can be electronically traded.

    “CBSL has not given any license or authorization to any entity or company to operate schemes involving VCs, including cryptocurrencies, and has not authorized any Initial Coin Offerings (ICO), mining operations or Virtual Currency Exchanges,” said the bank. “Therefore, VCs are considered as unregulated financial instruments and have no regulatory oversight or safeguards relating to their usage in Sri Lanka,” the bank said.

    Furthermore, Electronic Fund Transfer Cards (EFTCs) such as debit cards and credit cards are not permitted to be used for payments related to virtual currency transactions, it added.
