  • Unknown Caller Bugging You? TRAI Begins Consultation Process for Technology To Show Name of Caller on Mobile Phones

Unknown Caller Bugging You? TRAI Begins Consultation Process for Technology To Show Name of Caller on Mobile Phones

New Delhi, November 29: In a move to check pesky and fraud calls, telecom regulator Trai has started a public consultation to put in place a mechanism to display the name of the caller on mobile phones, an official statement said on Tuesday.

At present there are apps like ‘Truecaller’ and ‘Bharat Caller ID & Anti-spam’ which provide calling party name identification and spam identification facilities, but the names are based on crowd sources which may not be reliable, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said in the consultation paper on “Introduction of Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) in Telecommunication Networks”. Unknown Caller Bothering You? TRAI Likely To Introduce KYC-Based Measures To Ensure Caller’s Name Flashes on Receiver’s Mobile Phone.

Trai said that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in its reference on CNAP has mentioned that the facility will empower telephone consumers in taking informed decision while receiving calls, and this mechanism reduces the harassment of consumers from unknown or spam callers. Google Phone App Reportedly Gets ‘Announce Caller ID’ Feature That Will Reveal Name & Number of Incoming Calls.

“Further, DoT has requested Trai to explore the telecom network readiness and feasibility of providing CNAP facility to all telephone subscribers (smartphone and feature-phone owners),” Trai said.

The regulator has sought public comments on the paper by December 27 and counter comments by January 10, 2023.

For implementation of the CNAP service in the telecom networks, it would be necessary that the service providers have access to a database which contains the correct name identity information of each telephone subscriber.

In the consultation paper, Trai is also exploring different business models for providing CNAP facilities.

Unknown Caller Bothering You? TRAI Likely To Introduce KYC-Based Measures To Ensure Caller’s Name Flashes on Receiver’s Mobile Phone

Mumbai, November 16: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) will soon bring out a new feature that would allow a caller’s name to flash on the screen before calls. According to media reports, the name as per the know-your-customer (KYC) record of subscribers with the telecom operators would pop-up on the receiver’s screen. With this move, the department seeks a way to tackle fake calls and will enable users to know the actual identity of the caller before they pick it up.

Currently, users are dependent on third-party apps such as Truecaller to ascertain an unknown caller’s identity. But, the limitation of third-party apps is that the data is crowdsourced which does not assures 100% authenticity. However, KYC data guarantees 100% authenticity. Truecaller Revamps Its iOS App To Offer Better Protection Against Spam & Scam.

If implemented, this measure will also help authorities to verify if the service providers have conducted the process correctly or resorted to shortcuts due to which the identity of a caller may not be genuine. With this measure taken, Trai will be able to stop unsolicited commercial calls in an effective manner. WhatsApp Now A Spam Factory, 1 in 2 Indian Swamped With Promotional Messages.

In near future, this measure can be implemented on WhatsApp calls as well. Since the messaging app is linked to SIM cards, the KYC-based method can be effectively used to identify the authenticity of the caller.

  • WhatsApp Reportedly Enabling New Privacy Features To Prevent Unknown Contacts From Checking Your Last Seen & Online Status

Meta-owned WhatsApp is enabling new privacy measures to prevent unknown users from checking your last seen and online status. This piece of information has been released by WABetaInfo on its official website. According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is making it harder for people who you don’t know and have not chatted with from seeing your last seen and online presence on the instant messaging platform. And these privacy measures are effective for all WhatsApp contacts, including business accounts. WhatsApp Rolls Out Payments Background Feature in India, Here’s How To Use It.

As a reminder, WhatsApp already provides users with an option to hide their last seen. But as per WABetaInfo, there are several third-party apps on Google Play Store or App Store that can log the last seen and online status of select contacts. Several users and hackers use these apps to stalk to know when other people were online. To stop such activities, WhatsApp is enabling new privacy features.

WhatsApp will not show up the last seen and the online status if you have never chatted with another WhatsApp account and as those third-party apps don’t have an active history with you, they will not be able to see your last seen and online status. WhatsApp has also promised that the privacy features will not change anything between you and your friends, family and businesses who you know or have previously messaged. It is worth noting that if you are not able to see the last seen of some contacts, it is because they have enabled the ‘My Contacts Except’ feature that is available to some users.

  • WhatsApp Rolls Out New Privacy Feature To Prevent Unknown Contacts From Seeing ‘Last Seen and Online Status’ of the User

New Delhi, December 13: Meta-owned WhatsApp has brought in a new privacy update to prevent unknown contacts to see a user’s last seen and online status. This new feature has been reportedly rolled out for both Android and iOS enabled devices.

As per a report by WABetaInfo, some third party apps from Google Play Store on Android and Apple App Store on iOS can access data from the app to log ‘online’ status time and ‘Last Seen’ time. WhatsApp has now introduced some safeguards to stop such apps from accessing such data. How To Enable Two-Step Authentication on WhatsApp.

“After this latest improvements to protect users, WhatsApp doesn’t show up the last seen and the online status if you have never chatted with another WhatsApp account. Since those third-party apps don’t have an active chat with you, they cannot see when you are online,” WABetaInfo noted.

In addition, WhatsApp is also working on a feature that will enable users to restrict certain information including their ‘Last Seen’ and profile picture from specific contacts.

WhatsApp recently announced that its users will now have the option to turn on disappearing messages by default for all new chats. Meta-owned platform said that it is adding two new durations for disappearing messages: 24 hours and 90 days, as well as the existing option of 7 days.

“When enabled, all new one-on-one chats you or another person start will be set to disappear at your chosen duration, and we’ve added a new option when creating a group chat that lets you turn it on for groups you create,” WhatsApp said in a statement. This new feature is optional and does not change or delete any of your existing chats, the company added.

Mexico: Huge Mystery Sinkhole Getting Bigger for Unknown Reasons in Santa Maria Zacatepec (Watch Video)

Mexico City, June 4: A massive water-filled sinkhole which opened up for unknown reasons in a field in central Mexico is getting bigger, local authorities said. The sinkhole, which was just five metres in diameter when it was first discovered in the village of Santa Maria Zacatepec in the central state of Puebla, is now 97 by 78 metres, the general coordinator of the local civil defence, Jose Antonio Ramirez, said on Thursday.

The owner of the only house in the vicinity, which stands directly on the edge of the crater, first discovered it when she heard a loud noise at the weekend. Ramirez said her house was at risk. The causes of the sinkhole were being investigated. Massive Sinkhole Opens In Mexico; Here’s Everything You Need To Know About The Growing Mysterious Sinkhole Threatening To Swallow a House.

Mexico’s national civil defence said underground water flowing in the easily eroded soil may have caused the crater. The estimated depth of the hole is around 20 metres. The Popocatepetl volcano is about 50 km west of Santa Maria Zacatepec. The ground there contains deposits of ash and fine volcanic fragments.

According to the US Geological Survey, sinkholes form when groundwater circulates underground, dissolving the rock beneath the surface and creating spaces and caverns underground. Authorities have repeatedly warned the public to stay away from the crater.
