Twitter’s ‘View Counts for Tweets’ Feature Starts To Show Up, To Be Available for All Users Soon: Report

San Francisco, Dec 22: As promised by Twitter Boss Elon Musk, the “view counts for tweets” feature would be coming for all tweets, just like the view count shown for all videos has now started to show up for some Twitter users.

Some Twitter users have reported getting the feature, but it doesn’t seem to be available to everyone yet, reports The Verge. Elon Musk Has This to Say About Video of British Comedy Troupe Monty Python.

On December 9, Musk tweeted about an update for the feature to arrive soon.

“Tweets will show view count in a few weeks, just like videos do. Twitter is much more alive than people think,” he tweeted.

Meanwhile, Twitter also rolled out a new feature that will let users search for listed company stocks and cryptocurrency prices.

In order to do this, users will have to type in the dollar symbol followed by the relevant ticker symbol, e.g. “$GOOG” or “$ETH” without the quotes, in the search bar on Twitter, according to TechCrunch. This works without the $ symbol in some cases, but it’s less consistent and doesn’t always return the requested stock or cryptocurrency prices.

However, when it is operational, users will see a static image displaying stock price and a chart with no X or Y axis information, said the report.

Elon Musk Hints at Unveiling Twitter’s ‘Darkest Secrets’, Calls Microblogging Platform ‘Crime Scene’

Los Angeles, December 11: Twitter CEO Elon Musk created a stir among the microblogging site’s users with yet another cryptic series of tweets. Taking to the platform, the multi-billionaire wrote, “Twitter is both a social media company and a crime scene”.

This was followed by the Tesla owner sharing a meme, showcasing a gravestone with the words ‘Twitter’s darkest secrets’ written on it. In his pursuit to bring more transparency to the microblogging platform, Musk had earlier come up with a new update to the micro-blogging platform after the second instalment of the so-called ‘Twitter Files’ revealed how the company build blacklists and actively limited the visibility of certain accounts.

“Twitter is working on a software update that will show your true account status, so you know clearly if you’ve been shadowbanned, the reason why and how to appeal,” Musk tweeted. Twitter Blue: Microblogging Site To Relaunch Subscription Service With Verification on December 12; $8 for Android, $11 for iOS Users.

“The Twitter Files on free speech suppression soon to be published on Twitter itself. The public deserves to know what really happened …” Musk wrote.

The 51-year-old business tycoon had released the internal ‘Twitter Files’ last week, revealing that the company responded to a request ‘from the Biden team’ during the 2020 election — shortly after the company cracked down on Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden’s laptop story

Members of Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council Resign Over Concerns of ‘Declining’ Users’ Safety

San Francisco, December 10 : Three members of Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council have resigned, claiming that contrary to claims by Elon Musk, the safety and wellbeing of Twitter’s users are on the decline. Eirliani Abdul Rahman, Anne Collier and Lesley Podesta, who helped oversee Twitter’s digital safety, blamed Musk’s ‘freedom of expression’ approach.

“The question has been on our minds: Should Musk be allowed to define digital safety as he has freedom of expression? Our answer is a categorical ‘no,’” they wrote in a letter posted on netfamilynews.org. Rahman and Collier have been members of Twitter’s Trust & Safety Council since its inception in 2016. Twitter Deleting 1.5 Billion Inactive Accounts, Name Spaces Up for Grabs, Says Elon Musk.

“We fear a two-tiered Twitter: one for those who can pay and reap the benefits, and another one for those who cannot. This, we fear, will take away the credibility of the system and the beauty of Twitter,” they wrote.

Musk replied, saying “It is a crime that they refused to take action on child exploitation for years!” after a follower referenced a New York Post story on Twitter allegedly not removing child pornography from the site. Twitter Files: ‘Just Release Everything and Let People Judge’, Says Jack Dorsey; Elon Musk Hints at Episode 2 Coming Soon,

Rahman was the first female representative from Asia and had served on the Council’s Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Prevention advisory group. “We know that, even after the resignations and dismissals of thousands of employees, there are people working at Twitter who care about reducing hate speech and protecting users on the platform,” they said.

“Despite a lack of acknowledgment on the part of Twitter’s new ownership, we would like to acknowledge the hard work of all members of its Trust and Safety Council over the past six years,” they added. Rahman said that slurs against Black Americans and gay men have jumped 195 per cent and 58 per cent, respectively since Musk’s takeover.

“Antisemitic posts have soared more than 61 percent in the two weeks after Musk’s acquiring of Twitter. Another red line for me was when previously banned accounts such as those on the far right, and those who had incited others to violence, such as then US President Donald Trump’s, were reinstated,” she mentioned.

Elon Musk Delays Twitter’s $8 Blue Verification Service Launch To Avoid Apple’s 30% Tax in App Purchases

San Francisco, Nov 30: Twitter CEO Elon Musk has reportedly delayed the launch of the Blue paid verification service to avoid Apple’s 30 per cent cut of App Store purchases.

Twitter employees have been informed of additional changes coming to Blue, such as a 1 cent price hike from $7.99 to $8 and the need for a phone number verification, reports The Verge. US Senator Ed Markey Slams Twitter CEO Elon Musk for Failing To Respond to His Letter.

When Twitter’s new Blue subscription arrives on iOS, it might not be offered as an in-app purchase to avoid Apple’s 30 per cent cut of App Store purchases.

Users were only able to purchase Blue service through Twitter’s iOS app, when it was available earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Musk has upped his attacks on Apple in his tweets throughout the course of this month.

He criticised the App Store cut on November 18, by calling it a “hidden 30 per cent tax on the Internet”. Elon Musk Says ‘Apple Stopped Advertising on Twitter’ After Accusing Company of Threatening To Block Microblogging Platform From App Store.

He tweeted on Monday that “Apple has mostly stopped advertising on Twitter. Do they hate free speech in America?” and the following day he said: “Apple has also threatened to withhold Twitter from its App Store, but won’t tell us why.”

Twitter Layoffs: European Union Voices Concern Over Twitter’s Content Moderation Practices and Mass Sackings

Brussels, November 25: A top EU official has said that Brussels is concerned about recent layoffs at Twitter and gaps in the social network’s content moderation practices.

“The recent layoffs @Twitter and today’s results of the Code of Conduct against #Hate Speech are a source of concern. In my meeting at Twitter’s HQ, I underlined that we expect Twitter to deliver on their voluntary commitments and comply with EU rules, including #GDPR & #DSA,” EU Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders tweeted . Twitter Layoffs: Employees, Sacked by Elon Musk, Get Emotional on Last Working Day, Share Group Selfies and Heartbreaking Messages With #OneTeam.

In a subsequent tweet, the commissioner urged IT companies “to look at their content moderation practices and address the gaps shortly.” “It is disappointing that most of IT companies taking part in EU Code of Conduct have slowed down their responses to notifications of #Online Hate Speech,” he said. Twitter Layoffs: Elon Musk Shuts Microblogging Site’s Brussels Office, Says Report.

On Thursday, the European Commission released the results of its evaluation of the Code of Conduct on countering illegal hate speech online. The EU data showed a significant decrease in companies’ notice-and-action results in 2022.

The 27-member bloc said companies reviewed 64.4 per cent of notifications within 24 hours, which shows a decrease as compared to the last two monitoring exercises: 81 per cent in 2021 and 90.4 per cent in 2020.

“The removal rate was 63.6per cent, similar to 2021 (62.5per cent), but still lower than in 2020 (71per cent). YouTube improved its removal rate in 2022 (90.4per cent), as compared to 2021 (58.8per cent). All the other IT companies removed less content than in 2021, in some cases with minor variations (Facebook removed 69.1per cent in 2022 and 70.2per cent in 2021; Twitter removed 45.4per cent and 49.8per cent, respectively),” the European Commission said.

Earlier, media reports said that Twitter has closed its entire Brussels office, prompting concerns among European officials about whether Twitter will abide by the EU’s rules on content moderation.

Last month, the world’s richest man finalized the acquisition of Twitter, which cost him USD 44 billion. Following the takeover, Musk changed the company operations, including the termination of Twitter’s executives who were responsible for the platform’s privacy and cybersecurity, and thousands of regular Twitter employees.

The significant policy changes have caused concern among US lawmakers. Earlier today, Musk said that the social media will reinstate blocked accounts next week after a majority of users voted for “general amnesty.”

This follows Musk’s decision to restore the account of former US president, Donald Trump and American rap artist Ye, formerly known as Kanye West.

  • Twitter’s Unmentioning Feature Lets Users Exclude Themselves From Tweets

San Francisco: Amid the ongoing drama happening over Elon Musk’s walkout of the $44 billion deal to buy Twitter, the microblogging platform has announced that it is rolling out its “Unmentioning” feature that lets users remove themselves from conversations. Till now, the company was testing the feature with a limited number of users allowing them to remove themselves from conversations they do not want to be a part of. However, the feature is now rolling out for everyone. Elon Musk Pokes Fun at Twitter Over Filing Lawsuit Against Him After Musk Terminates $44 Billion Deal.

“Sometimes you want to see yourself out. Take control of your mentions and leave a conversation with Unmentioning, now rolling out to everyone on all devices,” the platform said in a tweet.

The platform has deployed several features to keep mentions civil, including an anti-harassment Safety Mode. Recently, it said that “we are experimenting with Unmentioning, a way to help you protect your peace and remove yourself from conversations, available on the Web for some of you now”.

Meanwhile, shares of the microblogging site fell about 6 per cent in premarket trading on Monday, amid the recent walkout by Elon Musk. Last week, Musk terminated the $44 billion deal to buy Twitter, stating that the company was in “material breach” of their agreement and had made “false and misleading” statements during negotiations. Twitter later announced it was going to sue the Tesla CEO.

“We are confident we will prevail in the Delaware Court of Chancery,” Twitter Chairman Bret Taylor said in a tweet.

In reply, Musk poked fun at Twitter and shared a meme. Musk’s meme read: “They said I could not buy Twitter. Then they would not disclose the bot information. Now they want to force me to buy Twitter in court. Now they have to disclose the bot information in court”. Musk will also have to pay $1 billion in termination fees to the micro-blogging platform, as per an earlier filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

  • Jack Dorsey Steps Down From Twitter’s Board Amid Elon Musk Deal

San Francisco, May 26: Jack Dorsey has stepped down from the Twitter board of directors, as Tesla CEO Elon Musk fights with the micro-blogging platform to reveal the actual number of fake/spam accounts.

Dorsey quit as Twitter CEO in November last year, handing over the baton to Indian-origin Parag Agrawal who was then the CTO of the company.

At the time, Twitter noted that Dorsey would stay on the board “until his term expires at the 2022 meeting of stockholders”. Twitter Fined $ 150 Million by FTC over Alleged User-privacy Violations

Dorsey has categorically said that he will never be the CEO of Twitter again, as reports of him rejoining the micro-blogging platform surfaced after the $44 billion takeover by Musk.

Dorsey, who is now running financial payments platform Block (earlier Square), also said that no one should be the CEO of Twitter.

At the shareholders’ meeting on Wednesday, Twitter’s board voted to oust board member and Musk ally Egon Durban, CEO of private equity firm Silver Lake Partners, reports TechCrunch.

Durban led Musk’s deal team during the 2018 failed effort to take Tesla private.

Musk has put the $44 billion Twitter deal on hold over the presence of fake/spammy accounts and wants the micro-blogging platform to come clean on the actual number of bots.
