    Telangana Chindu Yakshaganam takes centrestage

Chenchu Lakshmi directed by Srinivas Denchanala and Chindula Shyam will be staged on March 23 at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad

“Chindu Yakshaganam of Telangana is distinct, it is not as sophisticated and Sanskritized as the Yakshagana from Karnataka.,” points out renowned Telugu modern theatre personality Srinivas Denchanala.

The founder-director of the 37-year-old Janapadam Theatre Repertory dons the director’s hat along with Chindula Shyam to presentt Chenchu Lakshmi, a Telangana Chindu Yakshaganam written by Chervirala Bagaiah. The live performance at Ravindra Bharathi on March 23 in collaboration with Department of Language and Culture, brings a ray of hope for the 20 participating artistes in the COVID-affected milieu.

Though Chindu Yakshaganam has a cultural significance in Telangana, the theatre art form is dying slowly. The Chindu communitythat performs Yakshaganam, has a distinct perception of society. “They are radical performances of stories including mythology,” states Srinivas, adding, “Chindu artistes used to perform thousands of shows across Telangana, but now it has been reduced to a few hundred. Unfortunately, all folk/theatre forms are dying.”

    Srinivas Denchanala

Chenchu Lakshmi, a traditional dance ballet shows Lord Narasimha, who after killing the demon Hiranyakashipu falls in love with Chenchu Lakshmi, who has been raised in the forest for 16 years “What the consequences of this love story are, are enacted, danced, sung and narrated through Chindu Yakshaganam,” shares Srinivas. Being a contemporary theatre director, Srinivas has ‘rejuvenated’ the performance to suit the modern context. . “The artistes usually perform in small spaces in villages but we have used the larger stage space of Ravindra Bharati and also brought in slight changes in lights and sound,” he elaborates.

Although the show is being staged four days prior to World Theatre Day on March 27, Srinivas calls it a ‘non-occasion performance.’ “For the last 37 years, My plays have never been for an occasion. Performance is itself an occasion to celebrate theatre every day,” he says in his inimitable style. Even before the pandemic hit, Srinivas notes, the situation had been challenging for Telugu theatre artistes. “Telugu theatre has suffered immensely due to the indifference of audience and the government in the two Telugu states; Except a few experimental plays, most Telugu plays show little creativity. Unless the audience gets bored with commercial cinema, TV serials and a virtual lifestlye, a change in content for theatre like the plays Hayawadana by Girish Karnad and Macbeth by Shakespeare will not happen,” he points out.

Srinivas has not been able to pay the rent of his company in Kukatpally for the past six months. “Government has very little or no funds for theatre and to encourage creative people,” he rues. He spent the lockdown period writing poetry, participating in seminars and reading plays with his group members. A recorded performance of Srinivas too was shown online, an experience he dislikes. “I hate online theatre,” he retorts. “I will beg or sing but will not do virtual theatre. Live performance gives strength to the artistes which is missing in digital theatre.”

The parties urge the government to issue new ration cards

‘Restore ration cards to families who moved to their original places after lockdown’

Not only the MLAs of the opposition parties, but also those belonging to the ruling party requested the government to issue new ration (food security) cards to the eligible families, as a large number of applications are pending.

The issue came up prominently on Saturday during the Question Hour in the Legislative Assembly. Members of the TRS, MIM and BJP have requested the government to restore the canceled ration cards to the families who had moved to their original places after the COVID lockdown. They returned to the city after the ‘unlock’, but no ration card was left.

TRS member G. Vittal Reddy and Y. Anjaiah said that applications for the new election card were pending in his constituencies Mudhol and Shadnagar respectively. They wanted the approval of new fair price shops or the rehabilitation of some existing ones was also approved after the formation of some existing gram panchayats. He suggested that issuing new ration cards would not be a burden as illegal ration cards were canceled on 14 grounds. BJP member M. from Dubak. Raghunandan Rao made the same request.

MIM’s Ahmad bin Abdullah Bala reported that families who had left the city during the lockout and later returned found that their ration cards had been canceled and their efforts to restore the cards were proving futile .

Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar said in his reply that goods were not taken continuously for three months, as provided. However, those who returned to the city can contact the authorities concerned to reinstate the card or approve new ones.

He informed that out of 9,41,641 applications received for new ration cards, 3,59,974 new cards were already issued between June 2014 and June 2019 and another 4,88,750 applications were in process. • Telangana’s economy on V-shaped recovery path

Telangana’s economy on V-shaped recovery path

The government’s expectation in the budget on Thursday that several high-frequency indicators about the state’s economy would lead to a significant improvement in the gross state domestic product (GSDP) in the coming financial year was on its way to a rapid V-shaped recovery . .

A V-shaped recovery is characterized by a quick and sustained recovery in economic performance following a sharp decline.

The socioeconomic outlook presented in the Legislative Assembly during the budget presentation stated, on an aggregate level, the high-frequency indicator suggested that economic activity was on a rebound in recent months. As the vaccine implementation program for COVID rolled, the state rebound was likely to be stronger. This will allow it to build on its strong core principles and drive its economy forward.

The shock of COVID-19 had adversely affected the economic growth all over the world but the economy of Telangana showed impressive resilience and recovery was already underway.

The resilience was led by agriculture and allied sectors, which grew to 20.9%, weakening the three percent growth at the national level. Although industry and service sectors contracted at 5.6% and 4.9% respectively, they outperformed much steeper packages nationally.

Due to its high growth rate, agriculture and allied sector contributed higher share in overall GSDP than any year since formation. However, at the aggregate level, the services sector continued to contribute the highest share.

The services sector contributed a 60.3% share in GSDP, exceeding the sector’s contribution of 54.3% at the all-India level in 2020-21. Sub-sectors within the services included trade and repair, personal software and IT, real estate, financial, transportation and contingencies.

The annual growth rate of services had outpaced the growth rate of the region at the national level. In addition, financial, real estate and professional services contributed more to the development of services in the state than in the country. IT was the largest sector in the group and a major driver of the state’s growth in Hyderabad was emerging as one of the world’s premier IT hubs.

The government attracted many large service sector companies through investment promotion efforts. Google, Microsoft and Amazon had their India headquarters in Hyderabad and other companies such as Facebook and IBM set up offices in the city.

Employees of various PSBs staged dharna and rallies in Khammam, Kothagudem and many other parts of the erstwhile Composite Khammam district. In Khammam, the Bank employees, who owe allegiance to the Union Bank Award Employees Union, staged a sit-in with the placards. Telangana movement was inspired by Gandhi’s peaceful fight: KCR

Saying that India showed the world that peace was the most powerful weapon to fight for rights, the Chief Minister of Telangana. Chandrashekhar Rao inaugurated Amrit Festival of Independence – 75th Independence Day Celebration – here in public parks.

The Chief Minister said that the ‘Father of the Nation’ is the messenger of peace and he inspired not only the country but also the people all over the world for powerful British in powerful ways. “It is our responsibility to tell the younger generation about the sacrifices made by our freedom fighter and how Mahatma Gandhi led the country to achieve independence,” he said.

Parallel to the Telangana movement, Mr. Rao said that he too was inspired by the peaceful opposition to Mahatma Gandhi presiding over the programs during the Telangana movement, which was achieved without violence. The freedom fighters were also skeptical of Gandhi’s approach to peace, but the patience and determination shown by him had convinced us as a strategy against the mighty British in adopting peace, CM observed.

Telling the leaders of the world who, like Martin Luther King, also agitated for their rights, were also inspired by Gandhi’s ways, he said that it is an honor for Indians to inspire people all over the world Stay “The new generation should be made aware of the difficulties that the generation has had to give us freedom and ensure those qualities. It should be celebrated grandly in commemorating the historical events of the freedom struggle.

The Chief Minister also recalled the historic Dandi March launched by Mahatma Gandhi on March 12, 1930 against the imposition of salt tax and said that only 79 people along with Gandhiji for 384 km for 24 days to register their protest Marched, but shocked everyone. British Empire. “We are starting these celebrations on the same day and will continue for 75 weeks, which will include people from all sections,” he said.
