The AIADMK on Friday announced SP Shanmuganathan as its candidate for Srivikuntam assembly constituency.
The AIADMK cadre was in a jubilee mood, as the party high command, released in its first list, had just six names and included Mr. Shanmuganathan’s name for the Srivikuntam assembly.
The current MLA, who is also the district south secretary of the party, hails from Nadar community. Party officials and cadres gathered at the party office in Toivipuram to burst firecrackers and distribute sweets to express their happiness.
A senior district officer and a loyalist of Mr. Shanmuganathan said that the first list had names of CMs, deputy CMs and others. “Our Annachi names (Shanmuganathan) in the list showed that the party high command has the highest respect for them. We will definitely enter hands down for the win, ”he said.
Also at Srivikuntam, members of the BJP and his allies, including members of the PMK, announced Mr. Shanmuganathan’s name.
He announced that Pearl City is no doubt in some upbeat mood as his rivals – DMK, had yet to finalize the seat-sharing exercise, he said.
