Microsoft Launches AI Backed Real-Time Voice Translation in Skype

San Francisco, December 16 : Microsoft has launched real-time voice translation in Skype, which can now translate a person’s voice in real-time using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make the translated voice sound similar to the original speaker.

“We are launching translation of Skype to Skype video calls in real-time, using your natural voice. This means that you can have a conversation with someone who speaks a different language, and the translation will happen automatically, in real-time, as the conversation is taking place,” Microsoft said in a blogpost. Microsoft Bans Crypto Mining From Its Online Services To Protect Its Cloud Service Customers: Report.

Real-time translations with natural voice will be coming to group video calls and Telephony in the next months, said the blogpost. The new translation feature uses AI to automatically detect the languages being spoken during a video call and translate them in real time.

In order to do this, speech recognition technology and natural language processing are combined to understand, interpret, and translate spoken words. Moreover, if users activate the use of their natural voice, the company says that they will use AI to sample their words and tune the translation to sound like them, making the conversation more human, according to the blogpost. Microsoft Announces End of Support Date for Edge Web Browser on Both Windows 7 and 8.1.

This is a huge step forward for Skype, as itAmakes it possible for people who speak different languages to easily communicate with each other,” said the company.

  • Skype to Now Let US Users Make 911 Calls From Their Personal Computers at Home

Washington, February 19: Skype has announced that its US users can now use the platform to dial 911 from their home computer and that its software can share their location with emergency services if required.

According to The Verge, the US is the latest addition to the list of regions with a Skype emergency service calling feature. Until now it was only available in Australia, Denmark, Finland, and the UK. Snapchat To Allow Users To Change Their Username With New Update.

This move from Skype to enable 911 calls comes with a few limitations, but could be crucial for users who still have an adequate Internet connection when they lose access to a cellphone or landline in an emergency.

In a ‘Notice and Disclosures’ warning that appears before opting in to location-sharing, Skype cautions that the service doesn’t operate the same as a traditional phone call.

Users are encouraged to not make an emergency call through Skype when outside of their home region since the call could potentially be rerouted elsewhere.

It also made clear that a Skype outage, internet problems, or power outage in the area could cut off calls in situations where a traditional telephone would still work.

In addition to making 911 calls with Skype 8.80, users can now leave a five-minute voice message instead of capping off at two minutes.

As per The Verge, users will also notice the choice of light or dark mode while they’re on a call, can send custom reactions, and have the ability to zoom in or out when they share their screen.

  • Telegram: Telegram allows 1000 people to join video calls, but there is a catch – morningtidings

Telegram: Telegram allows 1000 people to join video calls, but there is a catch – morningtidings

At the beginning of the pandemic when the world was just getting used to the idea of attending video calls for the most basic of things, video conferencing platform Zoom became popular instantly. One of the many reasons for that was support for up to 100 participants to join a video call.
Now, we are living in a time when video calls are as basic as sending a WhatsApp message and our go-to solution for being absent from a meeting or a wedding or a funeral. Perhaps that is why the support for hosting any live event with support for making as many people as possible watch it is the need of the hour.
Telegram, the popular rival to WhatsApp, has rolled out a new update that comes with a feature that will enable up to 1000 people to watch anything together. What you must note is that it is only the limit for how many people can view anything together, as the limit for Group video calls to broadcast video from both their camera and screen remains 30.
Telegram has also said that it will increase the limit for this “…until all humans on Earth can join one group call…”
    What rivals offer
In its free and basic plan, Zoom offers support for 100 participants. Microsoft’s Skype offers support for 50 participants while Teams allows up to 100 participants normally and extended support for up to 300 during the pandemic. Google Meet lets 100 people join a video call at a time, while its dedicated video calling app, Google Duo allows up to 32 participants.
    Other new Telegram features
Besides rolling out support for allowing 1000 people to view anything together, Telegram will also allow its users to send video messages at a higher resolution.
The media player in the app will come with support to alter the playback speed and change it from 0.5x, 1.5x and 2x. Screen sharing for one-on-one video calls has also been added along with auto-deletion of messages after a month.

  • Skype’s Desktop Version Now Supports AI-Based Noise Cancellation

Skype’s Desktop Version Now Supports AI-Based Noise Cancellation

California, March 15: Tech company Microsoft has updated the Skype Desktop app with a new feature that would augment its voice and video call experience. According to Mashable, Microsoft has introduced artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled noise cancellation feature into the Skype desktop app for both Windows and Mac machines. However, the novel feature is not yet available on Skype’s mobile and web version.

To activate the background noise suppression feature, a user should click on ‘Settings’ and select the audio tab. The noise cancellation feature shows up, with the options auto, low, and high. Skype ‘Meet Now’ Feature Introduced As Zoom Alternative by Microsoft; How to Make Calls Without Any Apps or Account.

As reported by Mashable, in a blog post, Skype mentioned that this noise cancellation technology was originally made for Microsoft Teams. The blog post read: “We are pleased to announce the release of our latest background noise suppression feature in the Skype desktop app. Originally developed for Microsoft Teams, this new feature is designed to silence just about everything except for your voice when you’re meeting on Skype.”

The blog post explains how the new noise cancellation feature works. It states that the noise cancellation technology analyses audio feed; it then uses deep neural networks to cut out the noise without affecting the speaker’s voice.

“This technology relies on machine learning (ML) to learn the difference between clean speech and noise and is frequently referred to as artificial intelligence (AI). A representative dataset is used to train the ML model to work in most of the situations our Skype users experience. There needs to be enough diversity in the dataset in terms of the clean speech, noise types, and the environments from which our users are joining online calls,” the post reads.
