  • Hyderabad: 11-Year-Old Passionate Cuber, Robotics Enthusiast SP Shankar Designs Bot That Solves Rubix Cube

Hyderabad, April 17: SP Shankar, a Class 6 student from Hyderabad, is a versatile kid with multiple talents and skills at the tender age of 11 years. He is a passionate cuber and a robotics enthusiast. He can play musical instruments like violin and piano and he enjoys playing some classical pieces on them. Not just that, he is a wonderful swimmer and a pro-Skater too.

In his early days, Shankar has shown interest in solving Rubik’s puzzles at the age of 6, since then he has been consistently practising by following tutorials available on YouTube all by himself without any professional guidance. Over the next few years, he has developed some speed-solving techniques and created his own styles. Elon Musk Offers Teenager $5,000 To Stop Twitter Bot That Tracks His Private Jet Location.

Apart from being a speed-cuber, Shankar has also developed his computer and coding skills over these years and learned some programming and robotics.

Since his childhood, Shankar was fascinated with building different robots using DIY kits and he was able to understand and analyze the instructions given even at the tender age of 6. When he saw some innovations made by inventor David Gilde of the USA, he was awestruck. David’s designed Rubik’s cube-solving robot using a Lego Kit has caught his attention and he is now determined to build a similar robot using the skills he has developed over the past few years in Cube solving and Robotics.

With the inspiration he drew from David’s design, Shankar has built a Robot using a similar Lego kit. This special kit was bought from Singapore, as it is not available in the Indian market. The kit was originally designed for making robots that can move and do some simple tasks, but the same kit is modified to make a cube-solving machine. The brain of this robot is the processing unit that is loaded with a code that is written in Python programming language, this processor drives the motors attached to the arms of the robot and takes the inputs from the colour and distance sensors installed on it. The code is written in line with the CFOP (Cross, F2L, OLL, PLL) algorithm, the method that is used by most of the speed Cubers.

“It takes about 15 seconds to inspect what colour it is and 40 seconds to solve it. It is solved with 40 to 45 moves”, said Shankar. Divya Mangala, Shankar’s mother said, “He was a very curious child since his birth, he made a DIY solar robotic kit when he was in UKG for which he received a standing ovation in school. Since then his passion for cubing and coding Started. He can solve a cube in 15 to 12 seconds. He holds six world records and a few are in the pipeline.”

Shankar also made a self solvable Rubix cube Robot that solves 3×3 Rubix cube by itself. His passion is to go to IIT and MIT and pursue a career in robotics.

  • Parliamentary Panel Seeks Twitter’s Response on Locking of Accounts of Ravi Shankar Prasad, Shashi Tharoor

Parliamentary Panel Seeks Twitter’s Response on Locking of Accounts of Ravi Shankar Prasad, Shashi Tharoor

New Delhi, June 29: A parliamentary panel has sought Twitter’s response on the recent locking of the accounts of Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, sources said on Tuesday.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information and Technology has sent a letter to Twitter seeking its response within two days, sources said. The panel was instructed by its chairman Tharoor to seek reply from Twitter on the blocking of accounts of Prasad and others on its platform, sources said. Parliamentary Panel to Seek Explanation from Twitter for Locking Ravi Shankar Prasad and My Accounts, Says Shashi Tharoor.

Last week, Twitter had blocked Union Information and Technology Minister Prasad from accessing his account which ratcheted up tensions with the government as it came under renewed attack for not following local laws.

Twitter denied Prasad access to his account ‘@rsprasad’ for almost an hour on the grounds that he violated the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act, but the minister said the microblogging platform violated new IT rules that require intermediary or a host of user content to give prior notice before locking access.

The IT Minister called out Twitter over the brazen arbitrariness and running its “own agenda”. Soon after Prasad flagged the issue, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor tweeted that he too had faced something similar.

“Raviji, the same thing just happened to me. Clearly DMCA is getting hyperactive. This tweet has been deleted by @Twitter because its video includes the copyrighted BoneyM song ‘Rasputin’,” Tharoor tweeted.

Tharoor further said: “As Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology, I can state that we will be seeking an explanation from @TwitterIndia for the locking of @rsprasad’s & my accounts & the rules & procedures they follow while operating in India”.

Prasad lashed out at Twitter, and in a series of posts on rival social media platform Koo said it was apparent that his statements calling out the “high handedness and arbitrary actions” of Twitter, had ruffled feathers.

  • Parliamentary Panel Seeks Twitter’s Response on Locking of Accounts of Ravi Shankar Prasad, Shashi Tharoor

IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad Blasts Twitter, Says It Failed to Comply With New Guidelines

New Delhi, June 16: A day after micro-blogging platform Twitter said that it has appointed a Chief Compliance Officer, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday said that the US-based company has failed to comply to the new intermediary guidelines.

In a series of tweets, the minister came down hard on the platform over its reluctance to comply with the new norms.  Twitter Loses Its Status as Intermediary Platform in India Due to Non-compliance With New IT Rules

“There are numerous queries arising as to whether Twitter is entitled to safe harbour provision. However, the simple fact of the matter is that Twitter has failed to comply with the Intermediary Guidelines that came into effect from the 26th of May,” Prasad said.

He also said that Twitter was given multiple opportunities to comply with the same, however it has “deliberately chosen” the path of non-compliance.

Observing that the culture of India varies like its large geography, he said in another tweet: “In certain scenarios, with the amplification of social media, even a small spark can cause a fire, especially with the menace of fake news. This was one of the objectives of bringing the Intermediary Guidelines.”

“What happened in UP was illustrative of Twitter’s arbitrariness in fighting fake news. While Twitter has been over enthusiastic about its fact checking mechanism, it’s failure to act in multiple cases like UP is perplexing & indicates its inconsistency in fighting misinformation,” he said.

Prasad said that it is astounding that Twitter which portrays itself as the flag bearer of free speech, chooses the path of deliberate defiance when it comes to the intermediary guidelines.

“Further, what is perplexing is that Twitter fails to address the grievances of users by refusing to set up process as mandated by the law of the land. Additionally, it chooses a policy of flagging manipulates media, only when it suits, its likes and dislikes,” he said.

Further, in another development, official sources have said that Twitter has lost its status as intermediary platform in India as it has not complied with new guidelines.

WhatsApp Users Have Nothing To Fear About New IT Rules, Says Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

Amid controversy with WhatsApp regarding the new IT rules, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has supported the government’s new IT guidelines under which social media companies will have to disclose the identity of the first originator of the content to prevent the abuse and misuse of social media. He also mentioned on his Twitter account that the Government of India fully respects and recognises the right to privacy and ordinary WhatsApp users have nothing to fear about the new IT rules. WhatsApp Row: ‘Centre Respects Right of Privacy’, Says Ravi Shankar Prasad on New IT Rules.

Under the new IT rules, social media companies like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google and others will be obligated to reveal the first originator of an offensive message already in circulation only in cases of offences relating to integrity, security and sovereignty of India, public order, rape, child sexual abuse.

As per the new IT rules, digital media platforms will have to elect India based compliance officers who will keep a check on the complaints, monitor content and remove if objectionable. Yesterday, WhatsApp sued the Indian government to declare that one of the new social media rules is a violation of privacy rights in India’s constitution.

WhatsApp Row: ‘Centre Respects Right of Privacy’, Says Ravi Shankar Prasad on New IT Rules

New Delhi, May 27: A day after WhatsApp moved the Delhi High Court against the Centre’s recent IT Rules, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Communication and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday said the central government fully recognises and respects the right of privacy, adding that ordinary WhatsApp users have nothing to fear about the new rules.

Taking to microblogging site Koo, the Union Minister said the objective of the new IT Rules is to find out who started the message that led to the commissioning of specific crimes. Twitter Requests IT Ministry To Consider 3-Month Extension To Comply With India’s New Guidelines, Says Concerned Over Potential Threat to Freedom of Expression.

“Government fully recognises and respects the right of privacy. Ordinary users of WhatsApp have nothing to fear about the new Rules. Its entire objective is to find out who started the message that led to commissioning of specific crimes mentioned in the Rules,” he said.

The minister said the obligation to reveal the first originator of an offensive message already in circulation relates only to offences relating to “sovereignty, integrity and security of India, public order, rape, and child sexual abuse” and that too when other less intrusive measures are not effective.

“The new Rules require the social media companies to set up an India based grievance redressal officer, compliance officer and the nodal officer so that millions of users of social media who have a grievance get a forum for its redressal,” Prasad noted.

“The new Rules are only designed to prevent abuse and misuse of social media. Government welcomes criticism including the right to ask questions. The Rules only empower the ordinary users of social media when they become victims of abuse and misuse,” he added.

Under the recently notified Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021, social media intermediaries with more than 5 million users and providing messaging services will have to enable the identification of the first originator of problematic content that may harm the country’s interests.

WhatsApp on Wednesday moved the Delhi High Court against the Centre’s new guidelines that would require the messaging services to “trace” the origin of particular messages sent on the service.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said earlier in the day that the government is committed to ensure the right of privacy to all its citizens but at the same time it is also the responsibility of the government to maintain law and order and ensure national security.

He also said none of the measures proposed by India will impact the normal functioning of WhatsApp in any manner whatsoever and for the common users, there will be no impact.

Shankar responds to ‘Anniyan’ producer: Stop agitating such baseless claims

The director has replied with a statement saying that the script vests with him, and he is absolutely entitled to exploit the same in any manner he deems fit

Director Shankar has responded to claims from Aascar V Ravichandran, the producer of the Tamil movie Anniyan, who stated that the rights of the Vikram-starrer are still with the latter, and that Shankar would not be allowed to remake the film in Hindi with Ranveer Singh.

Shankar has replied with a statement saying that the script vests with him, and he is absolutely entitled to exploit the same in any manner he deems fit.

“I am shocked to receive your mail dated 14.04.2021 stating that you own the storyline of the movie Anniyan. In this context, I submit that the movie was released in the year 2005 and everyone associated with the movie were aware that the script and storyline belongs exclusively to me and in fact the movie was released with the tag: story, screenplay and direction by Shankar. I have not assigned in writing any script or screenplay to any person, and continue to retain the right to exploit the script in any manner I deem fit. As the admitted author of the literary work, my rights cannot be interfered with under any circumstances,”said the director.

He continued that he was surprised to see the reference to the late Sri Sujatha: “He was engaged by me only to write dialogues for the film and was accordingly credited. He was not involved in the script, screenplay or characterisation in any manner, and there is no scope beyond his engagement as a dialogue writer.”

Shankar added, “Given that the script vests with me, I am absolutely entitled to exploit the same in any manner I deem fit. Infact, you/your entity does not have the right to remake or make any derivative rights for Anniyan, as the said rights have not been granted to you in writing. In the absence of any assignment in writing from me, there can be no basis whatsoever to even assert that the “storyline” vests with you.”

The director concluded by asking the producer to stop with the baseless claims, “You as the producer have gained substantially from the success of the film Anniyan, and are needlessly trying to unjustly enrich yourself even in my future endeavours which have no correlation to you. Needless to state, I can only hope good sense will prevail upon you after this clarification and you will stop agitating such baseless claims. This reply is issued without prejudice, and to clarify the actual situation of me as a director and writer being subject to such avaricious and illegal claims to needlessly attempt to jeopardise my future projects.”

‘Anniyan’: Aascar Ravichandran calls Shankar’s Hindi remake with Ranveer Singh ‘illegal’

Producer states that the rights of Tamil original are still with him, that Shankar had “stooped to a low level” and has to immediately stop proceedings on the Hindi film

A day after it was announced that director Shankar was remaking Tamil superhit Anniyan in Hindi with Ranveer Singh, the producer of the original version has issued a statement terming the remake “illegal.”

Aascar V Ravichandran has stated that the rights of Vikram-starrer Anniyan are still with him and he hasn’t sold it to anyone, adding that Shankar had “stooped to a low level” and to immediately stop any proceedings on the Hindi film.

Here is Ravichandran’s statement: “I am utterly shocked to know that you are likely to undertake the direction of a Hindi film by adopting the story of the movie, Anniyan. You are well aware of the fact that I am the producer of the said movie Anniyan. The entire story rights were purchased by me from the writer Sujatha (alias late Rangarajan) for which full payment was done by me to him and necessary records are also available. I am the whole and sole owner of the rights of the storyline. As such, any such adaptation or remaking or copying the main plot of the said movie, without my permission, is totally illegal.”

“Further, I wish to remind you that after the not so successful film namely Boys, directed by you, you were severe stress due to the dented image. Still, I have provided you with the opportunity to direct the film Anniyan, after which you have regained the lost ground, only because of my support. It is a sorry state of affairs that you have conveniently forgotten the same and without even informing me, you have tried to reap the accolades of my successful movie ‘Anniyan’ by associating yourself and adaptation of Hindi version of the same. I am sure you always maintain certain ethical values, hence I wonder how can you stoop to a low level by resorting to such unlawful acts.”

“You are hereby advised to immediately stop proceeding any further on the same, due to the illegal copying of the storyline for which the entire rights are held by me. Please note that a legal notice follows this letter.”
