  • Zombie Virus Sparks Pandemic Fear! French Scientists Revive 48,500-Year-Old Pandoravirus Yedoma Buried Under Frozen Lake in Russia: Viral Study

Zombie Virus Sparks Pandemic Fear! French Scientists Revive 48,500-Year-Old Pandoravirus Yedoma Buried Under Frozen Lake in Russia: Viral Study

Moscow, November 30: French scientists have revived a 48,500-year-old zombie virus buried under a frozen lake in Russia until now!

According to New York Post, French scientists have sparked fears of yet another pandemic after reviving the “zombie virus”. Evan Peters Explains the Arduous Prep He Did for DAHMER- Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story To Portray the Notorious Serial Killer.

New York Post is a daily tabloid newspaper published in New York City.

New York Post has quoted a viral study which is yet to be peer-reviewed.

“The situation would be much more disastrous in the case of plant, animal, or human diseases caused by the revival of an ancient unknown virus,” reads the “viral” study.

According to the preliminary report, global warming is irrevocably thawing enormous swathes of permafrost — permanently frozen ground that covers one-quarter of the Northern Hemisphere. This has had the unsettling effect of “releasing organic materials frozen for up to a million years” – possibly deadly germs included.

“Part of this organic matter also consists of revived cellular microbes (prokaryotes, unicellular eukaryotes) as well as viruses that remained dormant since prehistorical times,” the researchers write. According to the New York Post, scientists have, perhaps strangely, revived some of these so-called “zombie viruses” from the Siberian permafrost in order to investigate the awakening critters. Reborn Rich: Kim Kang Hoon Wows as Song Joonki’s Younger Version; Here’re 5 Kdramas To Prove He Was Always A Terrific Talent.

The oldest, Pandoravirus yedoma, was 48,500 years old, a record age for a frozen virus returning to a form where it may infect other creatures. This breaks the previous record of a 30,000-year-old virus identified in Siberia by the same scientists in 2013. The new strain is one of 13 viruses described in the study, each with its own genome, according to Science Alert.

While the Pandoravirus was discovered at the bottom of a lake in Yukechi Alas, Yakutia, Russia, others have been discovered everywhere from mammoth fur to Siberian wolf intestines.

Scientists discovered that all of the “zombie viruses” have the potential to be infectious and hence pose a “health danger” after researching the live cultures. They believe that COVID-19-style pandemics will become more common in the future as melting permafrost releases long-dormant viruses like a microbial Captain America, as per New York Post. “It is therefore legitimate to ponder the risk of ancient viral particles remaining infectious and getting back into circulation by the thawing of ancient permafrost layers,” they write.

Unfortunately, it’s a vicious cycle as organic matter released by the thawing ice decomposes into carbon dioxide and methane, further enhancing the greenhouse effect and accelerating the melt. New York Post reports that the newly thawed virus might only be the tip of the epidemiological iceberg as there are likely more hibernating viruses yet to be discovered.

More research is needed to assess the level of infectiousness of these unknown viruses when exposed to light, heat, oxygen, and other outside environmental variables.

  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk Says ‘Russia Ramping Up Cyber Attacks Against Starlink’

New Delhi, May 11: Russia is ramping up their efforts to jam Starlink internet service in Ukraine, SpaceX chief Elon Musk said on Wednesday. He noted that Starlink has so far thwarted all cyberattacks coming from Russia. Following the Russian invasion on February 24, Ukraine’s fibre optic or cellular communication infrastructure connections were severed. SpaceX, along with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) delivered about 5,000 starlink terminals to the war-torn country.

“Starlink has resisted Russian cyberwar jamming & hacking attempts so far,” Musk said in a tweet, sharing a media report which revealed that Russia has hacked satellites of communications company Viasat. Elon Musk Says Starlink Active in Ukraine After Russian Invasion Disrupts Internet.

    Elon Musk’s Tweet

The billionaire added that Russia is “ramping up their efforts” against Starlink. Musk had, in early March, noted that Starlink signals have been jammed by Russia, but his company is adapting.

“Some Starlink terminals near conflict areas were being jammed for several hours at a time,” Musk wrote on Twitter. “Our latest software update bypasses the jamming.” In April, the US accused Russia of interfering with the global positioning system (GPS) satellites, used for navigation, mapping and other purposes, in Ukraine amid the ongoing war between the two countries.

Now, the UK, US and European Union have blamed Russia for the cyberattack on Viasat that hit civilian internet users in Ukraine and central Europe, and called it “unacceptable”. The Viasat attack, which came an hour before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, was aimed at the Ukrainian military but hit civilian internet users.

“The EU and its member states, together with its international partners, strongly condemn the malicious cyber activity conducted by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which targeted the satellite KA-SAT network, operated by Viasat,” the EU said in a statement.

“The cyberattack took place one hour before Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 thus facilitating the military aggression.” The EU also called cyberattack “another example of Russia’s continued pattern of irresponsible behaviour in cyberspace”, adding that the bloc is “considering further steps to prevent, discourage, deter and respond to such malicious behaviour”.

Prior to the invasion, Ukrainian government websites in January suffered from Whispergate destructive malwares. The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre said that Russian military intelligence was “almost certainly” behind it.

In addition, the US has also observed Russian military cyber operators deploying wiper malware, including WhisperGate, on the Ukrainian government and private sector networks, TechCrunch reported.

Moscow, April 21: Russia announced that it successfully test-launched a Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile on Wednesday at a time when Moscow-West tensions have sharply escalated over Ukraine.

The missile was fired from a silo at 15:12 Moscow Time at the Plesetsk state test cosmodrome in northwest Russia’s Arkhangelsk region, the country’s Defense Ministry was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.

The training warheads reached a given area at the Kura test ground on the Kamchatka Peninsula and the tasks were completed in full, it said in a statement.

After the test, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the new missile complex has “the highest tactical and technical characteristics and is able to overcome all modern means of anti-missile defense”. Jammu and Kashmir: Encounter Breaks Out at Baramulla Between Terrorists and Security Forces.

San Francisco, April 1: Popular social audio platform Clubhouse has announced that it will now let users limit who can see their full profiles due to increased security threats related to Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

The company said it is launching a protected profile setting to make it so that your full profile is only available to people who you approve as followers. “Your name, username, bio, and any linked social handles will be available and you can update them as you see fit. You can also still block users,” the company said in a blogpost.

Users can visit your settings and toggle on protected profile. This allows you to approve your followers. Only your followers will be able to see the rooms, clubs, and replays on your profile, the company said. Google Search To Help Users Find the Original Source of Trending Story: Report.

It also makes you less visible on Clubhouse in general. For example, users you have not approved as followers will not be able to know when you are online and we will not recommend that people you do not know follow you, it added. The company said it has also turned Replay feature off by default for all users in Ukraine (the feature was already off by default for Russia).

“If you want to use this feature, do not forget that the conversation will then live on for others to listen to. Even with Replays off it is important to remember that we cannot control the actions of users on the platform, who may seek to use third party apps or devices to record, store, or share content or communication without other users’ prior consent,” the company said.

  • Russia Blocks Access to Google News Service Amid Ukraine-Russia War

Moscow, March 24: Russia’s Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) has blocked the Google News service in the country for access to numerous materials containing unreliable information about Moscow’s ongoing war in Ukraine, media reports say.

The access to the online resource news.google.com has been blocked, the telecoms regulator told Interfax on Wednesday. “Based on a request from the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office, Roskomnadzor has restricted access to the Internet service News.Google in the country,” the statement said.

“The mentioned US Internet news resource provided access to numerous publications and materials containing unreliable, publicly significant information about the course of the special military operation in Ukraine,” it added. Russia-Ukraine War: Moscow Blocks Google News Over ‘Fake Information’ on Russian Invasion.

Recently, Russia blocked Instagram for nearly 80 million users in the country, after its parent company Meta allowed posts with calls for violence against Russian soldiers and President Vladimir Putin on Facebook and Instagram in some countries.

The social media platform was inaccessible for the vast majority of the country’s population, according to internet monitoring service GlobalCheck. Russian influencers on Instagram posted farewell messages to their followers, asking them to follow them on other social media platforms, or download VPN (virtual private network) software to bypass the ban.

Instagram has also provided a platform for Russians to speak out against the war, including wealthy oligarchs and their families.
