  • WhatsApp Releases New Privacy Option for Profile Picture; Now Users Can Hide Profile Pictures, Last Seen From Specific People

    San Francisco, June 19: Meta-owned WhatsApp has announced that it is rolling out new options to your privacy control settings to further protect users’ privacy online.

    On the microblogging site, the company wrote that now users can select who from their contact list can see Profile Photo, About, and Last Seen status. WhatsApp Group Voice Calls Host Can Now Mute, Message Anyone; Check Details Here

    “The safety and security of you and your messages matter to us. We want you to know about the tools and features we have designed to help you stay safe while using WhatsApp,” the company wrote on its FAQ page.

    WhatsApp said users can set your last seen, profile photo, about, or status to the following options — Everyone: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to all WhatsApp users; My Contacts: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to your contacts from your address book only.

    My Contacts Except… : Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status will be available to your contacts from your address book, except those you exclude.

    Nobody: Your last seen, profile photo, about, or status won’t be available to anyone.

    The company also said that be mindful of what you share.

    “We encourage you to think carefully before you decide to share something with your WhatsApp contacts. Consider whether you would want others to see what you have sent,” the company said.

    “When you share a chat, photo, video, file or voice message with someone else on WhatsApp, they will have a copy of these messages. They will have the ability to forward or share these messages with others if they choose to,” it added.

    WhatsApp said it also has a location feature that users can use to share their location in a WhatsApp message. Users should only share their location with people they trust.

  • Meta Releases AI Platform To Develop Prosthetics Along With Realistic 3D Avatars

    New Delhi: Meta (formerly Facebook) has released MyoSuite, an embodied artificial intelligence (AI) platform that could have significant impact in developing prosthetics and post-injury rehabilitation, along with creating more realistic 3D avatars. The musculoskeletal models in MyoSuite are up to 4,000 times faster than other simulators at meeting the data requirements of modern machine learning (ML) algorithms. Meta Donates $15 Million for Humanitarian Efforts in Ukraine & Neighbouring Countries Amid Russian Invasion.

    “This research could accelerate development of prosthetics, physical rehab, and surgery techniques. It could also help us develop more realistic avatars for the metaverse,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO.

    MyoSuite is a set of musculoskeletal models and tasks that enable the application of ML to solve biomechanic control problems.

    “MyoSuite unifies the two facets of intelligence: motor and neural. We’re releasing MyoSuite and open-sourcing a set of comprehensive benchmarks for the ML community to enable continued research in this area,” Meta said in a statement. “We have made significant progress on challenging tasks such as the simultaneous manipulation of two Baoding balls in one hand,” said Meta.

    “Not only can MyoSuite synthesize behaviors, but the comprehensive platform can also facilitate applications with real-life implications, such as rehabilitation, surgery, and shared autonomy assistive devices,” Meta noted.

    The researchers developed and solved a few of the most complex motor control behaviours that haven’t been done before — including dexterous manipulation, like twirling a pen in your hand or turning a key. MyoSuite is a collaboration between Meta AI and the University of Twente in the Netherlands.

    It is designed from the ground up as a comprehensive platform for investigating the physiological details behind musculoskeletal motor control. The company said it’s opening up the musculoskeletal models built through MyoSuite to researchers.

  • Google Releases Second Beta of Android 13 With New Features & User Controls

    New Delhi: Google has released the second Beta of its Android 13 operating system that offers a slew of new features and user controls, along with updates to privacy and security. At its Google’s I/O developer conference, the company said that in Android 13, “we’re giving you more control over what personal information you share and more detailed control over what files your apps can access”. In Android 13, apps must get your permission before sending you notifications. Google, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai Brought Key Technical Breakthroughs to Countries Like India.

    “In addition, we’re reducing the number of apps that require your location. For example, you will no longer need to grant location to apps to enable Wi-Fi scanning,” said Trystan Upstill, VP of Engineering, Android.

    Now, Android will automatically delete your clipboard history after a short period so apps are preemptively blocked from seeing old copied information. With Android 13, the company is going further to customise the phone’s look and feel with pre-made colour variants. Android 13 also extends colour theming of your app icons beyond Google apps.

    “Later this year, we’ll introduce a unified Security & Privacy settings page in Android 13 that brings all your device’s data privacy and security front and centre,” said the company.

    “Starting with Pixel devices, you’ll be able to turn on the �Themed icons’ toggle in your settings to have all supported apps also match your phone’s colours in a minimal, modern and consistent look,” said Google.

    Android 13 also introduces better multi-tasking capabilities for tablets. With the updated taskbar, you can easily switch your single tablet view to a split screen. Just drag and drop any second app in your app library onto your screen and you’ll be able to do two or more things at once with ease.
