    “Krishna is a 3.5-year old Hallikar breed. Nowadays Hallikar breed is perishing. Hallikar is the mother breed for all the country breeds. We have set up a semen bank of the Hallikar breed. Where we sell one semen stick for Rs1,000,” Boregowda told ANI. “As per my knowledge, nobody has done a semen bank of Hallikar breed in Malvalli in Mandya district. We privately did it. Monthly 8 times we draw semen from Krishna. We make 300 sticks at a time.     Panchgani, September 22: Much to the excitement of wildlife lovers, a black panther was spotted in Mahabaleshwar, the famous tourist attraction in Maharashtra on September 17. Experts believe that this is perhaps the first such sighting in the area. According to a report by Mid-Day, the black panther was seen near the famous Pratapgad fort. The incident came to light after a video of the big cat went viral on social media platforms.

    A forest official was quoted in the report saying that two herders from Kumthe village had taken their cattle to the foothills of Pratapgad for grazing. While the cattle was busy in their business, the duo, named Ravindra Jadhav and Subhash Jadhav, spotted a black leopard.     In the viral video of the leopard, which lasts for about a minute, the full-grown black panther can be seen walking around the grassy land near the fort area. However, after hearing the voice of the cattle herders, the panther disappears into the bushes.

    A similar incident had surfaced in 2018 where a black panther was spotted by tourists in Maharashtra. The big cat was seen at the Shivanjhari area of the Kolsa range in Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in the Chandrapur district. Prior to this,  a full-grown black leopard was rescued from a 40-foot deep well by forest officials and villagers of Oni in Rajapur taluka of Ratnagiri district in December 2013.

    Dehradun, August 13: A rare two-headed cobra was rescued from Kalsi forest division of Dehradun district in Uttarakhand on Thursday. According to snake catcher Adil Mirza, who works with the forest department, they had received information about a small cobra in an industrial unit premises in Vikas Nagar area.     “DFO Kalsi instructed me to go and rescue the cobra. When I went there, I was surprised as it was a two-headed spectacled cobra. In my 15 years as a snake catcher, I have never come across such a specimen. It is a very rare snake,” Mirza, who has been rescuing snakes for the last 15 years, was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.     The forest department sent the two-headed cobra to to a rescue centre at the Dehradun zoo, where veterinary doctors will examine it. “After doctors check it, it will be decided whether to release the snake or keep it for a study. Such snakes rarely survive in wild,” said District Forest Officer (Kalsi) BB Martolia. The two-headed cobra is a very rare specimen.

    Snake sighting is common during the monsoon season in Uttarakhand. Earlier this year, a team of researchers from Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and Forest Research Institute (FRI), Dehradun, had confirmed the existence of a rare black-bellied coral snake, the smallest of the cobra family, in the state. The rare cobra was spotted in the forests of Nainital and Mussoorie.
