Bayern vs PSG, Champions League Quarterfinals 1st leg: Qian Mbappe Stars PSG Win At Holders Bayern Munich

Qian Maleppé insisted on Paris Saint-Germain after winning 3–2 in a thrilling bout at Leigh Bayern Munich in Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-finals. Bayern repeated their 19-match unbeaten run in the Champions League in last year’s final, as the German giants suffered their first European defeat by March 2019. PSG raced behind closed doors with a 2–0 lead after just 28 minutes. Allianz Arena as Neymar scored goals for Mbappe and Marquinhos.

Bayern, whose top scorer Robert Lewandowski is sidelined with a knee injury, draws courtesy of headers by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Thomas Mueller.

However, Mbappe showed his class with a brilliant second goal, giving the visitors an advantage to return to Paris.

“We used to have all our opportunities and there was a bit of luck, but nothing has been decided,” Mbappe told Sky, the second leg to arrive in Paris on Tuesday.

PSG goalkeeper Keylor Navis played a key role with a string of saves as Bayern completed their target with 31 shots, compared to six from the French club.

“We have to score a lot more goals,” Muller said. “If it had ended for us at 5-3 or 6-3, no one could complain on the basis of probability.”

Bayern coach Hans Flick, who finished as the first-ever losing player in the Champions League, also captured the number of missed opportunities.

“The opportunities we had, we could have got a good result despite scoring three goals,” Flick said.

“We don’t like to lose, but the way the team played was top.”

It was a record 19th appearance in the Champions League quarter-finals for Bayern, but there was little to convince him at the final whistle.

PSG coach Maurico Pochettino said, “Qian Mabappé made the difference. It’s a very positive result for us, but everything is still open.”

    Marquinhos score and limb off

The Kovid-19 cast their shadow on both teams with Bayern winger Serge Gnabry, plus PSG duo Alessandro Florenzi and Marco Veratti.

Heavy snow fell in Munich in the first half as the visitors put heat on the holders.

The opening goal came after Neymar hit a hole in the defense and threw the ball for Mbappe, whose shot flew into the net through Manuel Neer’s feet.

PSG forward Julian Drexler denied a goal with Mbappe in the build-up as the visitors kept up the pressure.

Bayern midfielder Leon Gortzka put a header in Navis’ feet just before the hosts scored two goals.

A clearance kick only came in the form of Neymar, whose over the top ball Markinhaus unmarked his shot into the area to stroke Neuter before the PSG captain was injured.

Flick responded by bringing in Alfonso Davis to provide momentum on the Flanks and move David Alaba into the defensive midfield.

The hosts pulled back a goal when Mueller’s cross was ahead of Navas by four-motting, making it 2-1 at half-time.

Neymar was denied by Nair and attempted to remove Angel Di Maria from the line, while Leroy Sane passed for Bayern at the other end as both teams had their chances after the break.

Bayern equalized when Mueller hit the brilliant Joshua Kimich with a free-kick in the hour.

However, it was Mbappé on a cold night in Munich, who showed his class by turning Bayern defender Jerome Boateng in and out, before driving his shot past a neuter 22 minutes left.

Bayern went down fighting as Alba and Müller both fired at the dying feet.

Champions League: Canton Gunbury Test Positive for COVID-19 from Bayern Munich, Out of PSG Clash

Holders Bayern Munich, who already have top running back Robert Lewandowski due to injury, will also remain without Sergeant Gnabry on the COVID-19 case when they face Paris St. Germain in a repeat of the 2020 Champions League final on Wednesday do. The club said in a statement before the quarter-finals, “Gennabri has tested positive for the coronovirus. FC Bayern is fine ahead and apart at home.”

Earlier, Bayern head coach Hansie Flick had said that Gonabrie had been suffering from a sore throat prior to Kovid’s confirmation.

The 25-year-old man contracted the virus in October last year.

His latest positive test leaves Bayern without a key for both legs against PSG.

Lewandowski, who was voted FIFA’s best male player in 2020, is out with a knee injury after scoring 42 goals for Bayern this season, including five in the Champions League.

PSG defender Alessandro Florenzi and is missing midfielder Marco Verretti, who is claiming for COVID-19.

The pair are among a group of at least six Italian players who have tested positive for the virus since the recent international break.

Flick said midfielder Mark Roca would also miss the first leg at the Allianz Arena after being injured in training on Sunday.

Along with Gabrie, his Germany teammate Leroy Sane is set to play on the flanks with Kingsley Koman, whose header sparked a 1-0 win over PSG in the 2020 Champions League final last August.

Although the French giants may be motivated to avenge the loss in Lisbon, Flick played the element of the rematch with Mauricio Pochettino ever since Thomas Tuchel was replaced as PSG’s head coach.

“Maybe for Paris, but not for us. It’s a new sport, a new team and a new coach in Paris,” said Flick.

Yet Bayern Camp is highly respected for PSG, whose line-up reflects the talents of Brazilian superstar Neymar and French forward Qian Mabappé.

Bayern board member and former club captain Oliver Kahn said, “Everyone knows what strength they have with players like Neymar or Mbappe.

“They are an absolute top rival.”

PSG sent Neymar to Lille’s 1-0 home defeat on Saturday, which included them as leaders of the French League.

The Paris veteran has lost eight times in the French League in 2020/21, the most during a single season for 10 years.

Nevertheless, Pochettino is reclaiming the chance to end Bayern’s unbeaten run of 19 Champions League games, which will return by March 2019.

“We are playing against the best team on the continent at the moment. But we are optimistic. We have already eliminated Barcelona in the context of PSG in terms of beating the Spanish giants in the last 16 years,” he said.

On Tuesday, Flick refused to confirm reports that center-back Jerome Boteng would leave Bayern at the end of the season, having not been offered a contract extension.

Both Boteng and left-back Alphonso Davis are available to face PSG on Saturday following a 1-0 win at RB Leipzig that gave Munich seven points at the top of the Bundesliga.

The result sees Lille take a major step towards the first Lig 1 title in a decade, prior to the Qatari takeover of PSG which changed the face of French football.

PSG vs Lille: Paris Saint-Germain Punish Lille Eraser to win French Cup showdown

Paris Saint-Germain entered the quarter-finals of the French Cup on Wednesday, while giving them a psychological setback in their quest for the Lit 1 title as they beat top-of-the-table Lille 3–0. This was the correct response from PSG after their shock weekend home loss to Nante, who had stolen the watch at the houses of Angel Di Maria and Marquinhos during the match. “We have done a difficult job for the players and their families for the last few days,” PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino said. “No one is ready for this type of situation. The players did a great job staying focused. Their mood was excellent. Angel and Marquinhos enjoyed playing.”

In both of the first meetings of the international break between the teams at the Parc des Princes, the difference was a series of mistakes by Lily at key moments.

“It’s always the same, it’s against Paris on the field of truth that it matters,” Lille midfielder Benjamin Andre said.

When Di Maria crossed a low into the near post after nine minutes, Lille keeper Tiago Giullo took a wild swing. Goalkeeper Mike Migan threw the deflected ball, only turning it towards his goal. Mauro Icardi needed to gather his intelligence before being rolled into an empty net.

Icardi was shut out for 36 minutes, replaced by Kian Maleppé, who started on the bench.

Four minutes later, MBP mended to the edge of Lily’s penalty area until Zeki Celik took the bait, held out one knee and brought the striker down.

Following Lille’s protest, Mbappe pushed the spot-kick to the roof of the net.

Lilly coach Christophe Galtier said, “Our first half-century was sneaky, we think we saw him playing a little bit, which made it clear that he felt that the first half of the referee was too bad.

“They have control, experience, they have the ability to put everyone to sleep, and when I say everyone, I mean everyone.”

Lily had a chance when she won her own penalty with 13 minutes to play, hitting the outstretched hand of Jeremy Pied’s cross to Byvin Levina Kurzawa.

Lil again weaved as did Keyser Navas to save Yusuf Yazaki’s tame sentence.

“Keeler is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, his stature is unbelievable,” Pochettino said.

Three minutes into the added time on the half-line, Xolo misjudged the PSG clearance. Mbappe raced away from the Lille defender and drilled Maignan past the third.

“We didn’t play a cup game,” Galtier said. “In the cup, at the end you either qualify or you are out. The score may look harsh, but we can’t compete with Paris if we only play one half.”

    Promoted

PSG, the defending champion, Lily with three points in Ligue 1 and a comeback date is on the horizon. The pair met again at the Paras des Princes after an international break, with Leon clashing with Nimes after PSG finished third on Sunday.

“On April 3, it will be another competition, another competition,” Pochettino said. “We have Lyon on Sunday and in two weeks after that, we have to recharge our batteries after the first two months of insanity.”

Paris Saint-Germain Los Angel Di Maria, Overshadowed in Marquinhos Homes

Paris Saint-Germain forward Angel Di Maria was the victim of a robbery during the loss of Nantes on Sunday, while the robbers also targeted the family home of Captain Marquinhos, the club’s frontrunner. Sources said thieves stole watches from Argentine international Di Maria’s house in the suburbs of western Paris, but “there was no violence”, sources told AFP on Monday. According to the special anti-robbery squad of the police, the player’s family was at home at the time, but the thieves “did not come”, a source in the case said.

A police source said he “heard nothing” during the vandalism at a safe location at the top of the house in Nurelli. The value of the stolen goods is yet to be assessed, but is less than 500,000 euros ($ 600,000).

Di Maria signed a one-year extension to his PSG contract until 2022 last week. Nantes was given an hour in a 2–1 loss following a discussion between sports director Leonardo and coach Mauricio Pochettino.

The family home of Brazilian international Marquinhos in the Paris area was also looted.

The player’s father and two sisters were home during the break-in. A police source said the father was stabbed in the ribs by the attackers, but there were no injuries. Several bags containing valuables were stolen, the contents of which have not yet been determined.

PSG forward Mauro Icardi suffered a break-in at his home last month. Thiago Silva, Dani Alves and Eric Maxim Choupo-Motting were also robbed in recent years while playing for the club.

Coming off the field, PSG players were impacted as Nantes defeated the French champions in their seventh Lit 1 defeat of the season.

“This is not an excuse but an unusual drop in energy,” Pochettino said after the match. “We talked with the players but that didn’t happen in terms of football.”

    Promoted

“There are circumstances outside the game that need to be considered.”

Di Maria had previously admitted that a robbery at his family’s home was attempted during a year at Manchester United in 2014–15, prompting him to leave the Premier League club.
