The stone with the Portuguese inscription found in the College of Fisheries is Gravity.

Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials have said that the stone is a gravestone with a Portuguese inscription found on the campus of the College of Fisheries in Hoigbazar in the city a week ago.

It’s antonio [probably Teixeira] De Massido Nobleman, who was killed by the Moors during the siege of the fort during 1528 or 1628 or 1728, Professor and Dean of the College A.W. Senthil Vail quoted ASI officials in a release on Saturday.

Another inscription has Kannada character dated to 12–13th century CE. Several lines in the slab have been damaged and corroded. The ASI has interpreted from the existing script that it is a record of the gift of 100 Gadeyana, meaning 100 gold coins. These coins are initially given to a person to light a lamp forever. The lamp is being lit to act as a lighthouse as the area in which it is found is a trading port (currently the old Mars port). Such a lamp, which is always lit, can also be a sign of a temple. The rulers of those days were of the Alupa dynasty in the then South Canara, Proc. Vel quoted ASI as saying.

Under the Smart City Mission, land was being excavated for the construction of a building, while stones were found. He was named BFSC third year student Shreyash ji. Bhandari noticed.
