  • Google Meet Now Allows Users to Livestream Meetings on YouTube

San Francisco: Tech giant Google is adding a new feature to its Meet app to allow users to livestream meetings to its streaming platform YouTube. According to the company, an admin can enable this by navigating to the meeting’s Activities panel and selecting “Live Streaming”. Google Meet Silently Ends Unlimited Group Video Calling Facility for Free Accounts.

Users can then select their channel to begin streaming the meeting they are holding, reports AndroidCentral. Google explained that live streaming “is useful in situations where users want to present information to large audiences outside of their organisation, allowing them to pause and replay as needed, or view the presentation at a later time”.

There is a channel approval process for live streaming on YouTube. Google warns users to let them know that their channel must be approved to livestream before they can do so through Google Meet.

Its help page explains that when host management is on, only the host and co-hosts can begin livestreaming the meeting. If that option is off, anyone attending the meeting can start livestreaming it. Google also provides a privacy option if someone is interested in livestreaming the meeting.

A feature such as live streaming a meeting seems like another way Google is looking to diversify and separate Meet from other platforms, the report said. The new feature will be rolled out in stages. The first is “rapid release,” with the feature rolling out to select domains within three days beginning on July 21. The second will be for domains under a gradual “scheduled release” that may take up to 15 days beginning on July 25.

  • TikTok To Restrict Livestream to Viewers Above 18, Here’s Why

New Delhi: Chinese short-video making app TikTok is reportedly restricting livestreams to viewers who are 18 years of age and above, to prevent minors from encountering adult content. The new setting for users is currently in limited testing with select users, reports TechCrunch. TikTok Allows 10-minute Long Videos.

“We’ve heard directly from our creators that they sometimes have a desire to only reach a specific older audience. So, as an example, maybe they’re creating a comedy that has adult humor, or offering kind of boring workplace tips that are relevant only to adults. Or maybe they’re talking about very difficult life experiences,” said Tracy Elizabeth, TikTok’s US Head of Issue Policy. “We’re testing ways to help better empower creators to reach the intended audience for their specific content,” she added.

The new 18+ restriction setting for livestreams is, however, not meant to promote adult content on the platform and it will be tightly scrutinised, said the company.

The select users in the testing period can toggle the “mature themes” button to restrict their livestreaming to adults only. The platform said that that “only viewers 18 and above can see your LIVE” if you turn it on. Once a user turns on the setting, TikTok will notify him that LIVE videos tagged 18+ will still be removed if they violate community guidelines. TikTok recently said it was developing a system to identify and restrict certain types of content from being accessed by teenagers.
