  • President Kovind emphasized on the participation of more and more girls in technical education

President Kovind emphasized on the participation of more and more girls in technical education

He was addressing the 18th convocation of the National Institute of Technology in Rourkela.

President Ram Nath Kovind has emphasized to encourage girls for technical education and to excel in other areas in the same way.

Addressing the 18th convocation of the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela on Sunday, he said, “Our girls should be encouraged to pursue technical education and encourage them in the same way as they do in other fields. The country needs more of our girls to advance in higher education, especially in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. “

“The growth and excellence of women in technical fields will add a new dimension to our national development. It will promote gender empowerment at a high level in the field of science and technology. This will help women break the glass ceiling in one of the most important regions of the 21st century world. “

Mr. Kovind said that out of the 7,116 students studying at NIT, Rourkela, about 1,518 girls constitute 21%. In every convocation I go across the country, I note that our girls are beating our boys and winning more gold medals in the fields of liberal arts, humanities, medical science, law and many more. It is indeed a captivating trend and shows the potential of our daughters. ”

Out of the seven gold medals won by the students of NIT, Rourkela, three were found to be female students. “It has been observed that the enrollment of women in technical and scientific subjects is low. According to a recent survey, the enrollment of women in engineering and technical institutes across India is only 20%, ”he pointed out.

    Social responsibilities

Mr. Kovind also reiterated his appeal to universities to take their social responsibilities more seriously.

“A university and institution must contribute to empower the community in its environment. I have been advocating for ‘Ities Universities Social Responsibility in line with Responsible Corporate Social Responsibility’. I am happy to note that NIT Rourkela has adopted five villages as part of ‘Unnao Bharat Abhiyan’.

The President lauded a poverty alleviation research center operating in the campus for the under-privileged people of Kalahandi, Balangir and Koraput regions of Odisha.

NIT, Rourkela, is the second largest government-run institute of technology in eastern India. This campus of 700 acres has more than 7,000 students and 17 different countries out of 33 from a total of 36 states and union territories. The President is scheduled to inaugurate the state-of-the-art Super Specialty Hospital at Rourkela in the afternoon.
