  • Cloudflare Bans US-Based Internet Forum Kiwi Farms Over Imminent Threats to Human Life

    San Francisco: Digital infrastructure services provider Cloudflare announced that it has blocked US-based Internet forum Kiwi Farms over “imminent threats to human life”. The platform said that visitors to any of the Kiwi Farms sites that use any of Cloudflare’s services will see a block page and a link to this post. Cloudflare Outage Hits Shopify, Discord & Other Services in India.

    Kiwi Farms may move their sites to other providers and, in doing so, come back online, but Cloudflare said it has taken steps to block their content from being accessed through our infrastructure.

    “This is an extraordinary decision for us to make and, given Cloudflare’s role as an Internet infrastructure provider, a dangerous one that we are not comfortable with,” the services provider said in a blogpost.

    “However, the rhetoric on the Kiwi Farms site and specific, targeted threats have escalated over the last 48 hours to the point that we believe there is an unprecedented emergency and immediate threat to human life unlike we have previously seen from Kiwi Farms or any other customer before,” it added.

    The company mentioned that Kiwi Farms has frequently been host to revolting content.

    “Revolting content alone does not create an emergency situation that necessitates the action we are taking today,” Cloudflare said. “Beginning approximately two weeks ago, a pressure campaign started with the goal to deplatform Kiwi Farms. That pressure campaign targeted Cloudflare as well as other providers utilised by the site,” it added.

    Cloudflare said it provides security services to Kiwi Farms, protecting them from DDoS and other cyberattacks and also mentioned that it has never been their hosting provider.

    “As we outlined last Wednesday, we do not believe that terminating security services is appropriate, even to revolting content. In a law-respecting world, the answer to even illegal content is not to use other illegal means like DDoS attacks to silence it,” the company said.

    “We are also not taking this action directly because of the pressure campaign. While we have empathy for its organisers, we are committed as a security provider to protecting our customers even when they run deeply afoul of popular opinion or even our own morals,” it added.

    The event was organised by a social institution ‘Jwala’ at Divya Shaktipeeth and more than 5000 school students, social workers and other people came together to form the map.

    Dr. Divya Gupta, founder of ‘Jwala’ said that through this effort, an attempt will be made to create a new world record by breaking the world record for making human chain in geographical shape.

    “We had made a human chain on the map of India, and not only on the border but also inside it. Earlier, a human chain was formed on the boundary line of the country’s map, but we gathered people inside by making tricolor and blue Ashok Chakra in the middle. Total 5,335 people participated in this event,” she further said.

    “Shri Shakti was made on the boundary of the map of India to show the importance and strength of the women of the country,” she added.

    On August 15, India will be celebrating the 75th year of its independence and many events and initiatives are being conducted to commemorate the day.

    Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) is being observed by the Central government and the Indian populace to mark the country’s 75th anniversary of independence with an enthusiasm to bring the Tiranga home and be a part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign.

    The official journey of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav commenced on March 12, 2021, which started a 75-week countdown to our 75th anniversary of independence. The programme envisages inspiring Indians everywhere to hoist the national flag at their homes.     New York: Elon Musk’s Neuralink rival Synchron has launched human trials on six severely paralysed patients in the US to enable them to control digital devices hands-free, using just thoughts. The US-based Synchron is an endovascular brain-computer (BCI) interface company that competes with Musk’s Neuralink, which also aims to enable paralysed people to use computers and phones through their brain activities alone. Elon Musk Calls Donald Trump`s Twitter Ban ‘Morally Wrong’, Says He Would Lift It.

    In a statement, Synchron said that its device named Stentrode, which is the size of a paper clip, is implanted to the motor cortex of the brain through the jugular vein in a minimally-invasive procedure.

    Once implanted, it translates brain activity into a standardised digital language to allow patients to complete everyday tasks hands-free, on external devices including texting, emailing, online shopping and accessing telehealth services. The company’s new clinical trial will enrol six patients in New York and Pittsburgh with severe paralysis.

    The device has already been implanted and tested in four Australian patients, and the new clinical trial marks the first time it will be tested in the US.

    The trial on Australian patients demonstrated the technology to be safe, the company said.

    According to Tom Oxley, CEO and founder of Synchron, the new trials are “a major milestone for people living with paralysis”. “The Command study progresses Synchron’s technology development through the feasibility stage as we prepare for our pivotal trial,” said Oxley.

    Rather than drilling through the skull, the Stentrode is fed through a patient’s vein until it reaches the brain. The device, comprised of a net-like material with 16 sensors attached, expands to line the vessel wall. That device is connected to an electronic device in the chest that then relays the brain signals from the motor cortex, the part of the brain that generates signals for movement, into commands for a laptop computer.

    Synchron is the only company to receive US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval to conduct clinical trials of a permanently implanted BCI. The company’s novel BCI technology leverages the blood vessels as the natural highways to the brain.

    If successful, the Stentrode brain implant could be sold as a commercial product aimed at paralysis patients to regain their independence and quality of life. The company’s new clinical trial, called Command, is being conducted under the first investigational device exemption (IDE) awarded by the FDA. An IDE allows a device to be used in a clinical study in order to collect data on its safety and effectiveness.
