Cryptocurrency Hacking: Two Crypto Firms Linked to Justin Sun Lose USD 115 Million After Hack, Says Report

San Francisco, November 25: Two cryptocurrency firms associated with high-profile digital entrepreneur Justin Sun were hacked in two exploits that might have stolen up to $115 million to date, the media reported. The targeted platforms include the HTX digital currency exchange (formerly Huobi), from which hackers stole around $30 million worth of cryptocurrencies, according to the company.

HTX also confirmed that the blockchain bridge Heco Chain, was also attacked, reports CNBC. Sun, an investor in HTX and connected to the Heco Chain, also confirmed the events on X. Cryptocurrency Hacking: USD 173 Million Lost in Crypto So Far in November, Hackers Steal Over USD 114 Million From Poloniex Cryptocurrency Exchange.

“HTX and Heco Cross-Chain Bridge Undergo Hacker Attack. HTX Will Fully Compensate for HTX’s hot wallet Losses. Deposits and Withdrawals Temporarily Suspended. All Funds in HTX Are Secure, and the Community Can Rest Assured,” he wrote. Sun also mentioned that the company is “investigating the specific reasons for the hacker attack. Once we complete the investigation and identify the cause, we will resume services”.

According to the market analytics firm CryptoQuant, a total of $85.4 million worth of cryptocurrency has been stolen from the Heco Chain. It was largely denominated in stablecoin USDT and ether. A significant sum of HBTC, HTX’s native coin, was also stolen. CoinEx Hack: Global Cryptocurrency Exchange Asks Hackers To Negotiate and Take Generous Bounty As Reward.

The data from the market analytics firm also showed that around 11,100 ether tokens have been moved from the HTX exchange in the last few hours. According to the spokesperson for CryptoQuant, this is around $23 million in cryptocurrency and is primarily the consequence of hackers taking digital coins, as well as a few people attempting to withdraw their funds from the exchange.

Meanwhile, over $7 billion in cryptocurrency has been illicitly laundered through cross-chain crime, with North Korea’s Lazarus Group being linked to the theft of around $900 million between July 2022 and July of this year.

  • Nothing’s iMessage Hack Introduced via Nothing Chats App for Phone (2) Comes With Some Red Flags

Nothing’s iMessage Hack Introduced via Nothing Chats App for Phone (2) Comes With Some Red Flags

San Francisco, November 15: Global consumer electronics brand Nothing, which added Apple’s iMessage functionality to Android Phone (2) via a new “Nothing Chats” app powered by the messaging platform Sunbird, comes with some red flags. Sunbird will offer support for iMessage service, allowing users of Nothing’s flagship phone to text iPhone users as if they were on an iPhone themselves, appearing as a blue bubble. Nothing Chats will also support texting to other Android phones via RCS, in addition to SMS and MMS.

The app will be available to download from the Google Play Store, and will initially be available in the US, Canada, the UK and other European countries starting November 17. While little is known about the Sunbird app, it promises to make this app available for free to all users. On downloading the app, users will need to log in to Nothing Chats with an Apple ID username or create one if they don’t have one, according to CNET. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI Says ‘We Are Pausing New ChatGPT Plus Sign-Ups for a Bit’, Advises Users To Sign Up To Get Notified When Subscriptions Re-Open.

Even though Nothing promises that neither it nor Sunbird will store any of your message data or Apple ID information, it should be noted that users will be initially entering their login details that might also be tied to other Apple services. According to a Nothing representative, these details are tokenised by Sunbird, used to set up a relay with one of Sunbird’s Mac Mini computers that make the connection to iMessage and after setup are destroyed by Sunbird.

After that, users will need to set Nothing Chats as their default messaging app to start sending and receiving iMessage chats from iPhone users alongside texts from Android devices. Another thing that needs to be noted here is that iMessage texts users send will use the email address attached to their Apple ID instead of their phone number. It’s similar to using iMessage from an iPad or Mac computer when they don’t otherwise have an iPhone.

According to the report, Nothing plans to build phone number compatibility in a future update. For now, users’ texts may appear to come from an email address rather than their phone number, but whoever they text can fix this by including their Apple ID email address in their contact information on their phone.

Nothing Chats isn’t the first service to provide a workaround for Android phones using iMessage. Beeper, which is also in beta, aims to give users access to iMessage and other chat apps. AirMessage employs a self-hosted model in which it is installed directly on a Mac that must be kept running at all times, with messages forwarded to an Android phone, the report mentioned. Apple Announces To Extend Free Access To ‘Emergency SOS via Satellite’ Feature for Additional Year for iPhone 14 Users.

These methods allow Android phones to send and receive iMessage texts, but they come with their own set of security risks and are unlikely to maintain feature parity as Apple updates its official iMessage service with new features. Nothing’s iMessage access, which is being developed independently of Apple, may also lag behind any new iMessage features that Apple adds to iOS.

Poloniex Hack: Hackers Steal USD 114 Million From Cryptocurrency Exchange, Investor Justin Sun Promises Reimbursement

San Francisco, November 11: Hackers have stolen $114 million from cryptocurrency exchange Poloniex, after its “hot wallets” were drained by cyber-criminals. Poloniex investor Justin Sun posted on X that the company was investigating the hack incident. “Poloniex maintains a healthy financial position and will fully reimburse the affected funds. Additionally, we are exploring opportunities for collaboration with other exchanges to facilitate the recovery of these funds,” Sun posted.

Various wallets across multiple blockchains appear to have been targeted, reports CoinDesk. Arkham data shows that an Ethereum wallet, now tagged as “Poloniex hacker,” sent a total of $114 million worth of tokens from Poloniex in 357 transactions. CoinEx Hack: Global Cryptocurrency Exchange Asks Hackers To Negotiate and Take Generous Bounty As Reward. CoinEx Hack: Global Cryptocurrency Exchange Asks Hackers To Negotiate and Take Generous Bounty As Reward.

A wallet on the Tron blockchain also sent around $42 million to various wallets. Poloniex is one of the longest-running crypto exchanges. It was acquired by Circle in 2018 and later spun off to several investors, including Sun.

The crypto exchange has facilitated $616 million worth of trading volume over the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap. On-chain data also showed the Poloniex hacker bought $20 million worth of tron (TRX), pushing the token’s price up by more than 25 per cent. Stake.com Crypto Heist: Hackers Dupe Cryptocurrency Gambling Platform of USD 41 Million To Fund Nuclear Programs of North Korea.

Blockchain analytics company Nansen reported that there were just 175 tokens left in Poloniex’s wallet, worth a total of $10,000. Sun added that the crypto exchange is offering a 5 per cent white hat bounty to the hacker with a deadline of seven days before engaging with law enforcement.

The company “successfully identified and froze a portion of the assets associated with the hacker’s addresses. At present, the losses are within manageable limits, and Poloniex’s operating revenue can cover these losses,” Sun posted.

  • Solana Crypto Hack Reportedly Linked to Slope Mobile Wallet App

New Delhi: The multi-million Solana crypto hack, that drained more than 8,000 wallets worth around $8 million, has been linked to accounts tied with the Slope mobile wallet app. Slope Finance said in a statement that a cohort of Slope wallets were compromised in the breach, advising users to create “a new and unique seed phrase wallet, and transfer all assets to this new wallet.” How To Verify a Solana NFT?

“We have some hypotheses as to the nature of the breach, but nothing is yet firm. We feel the community’s pain, and we were not immune. Many of our own staff and founders’ wallets were drained,” the company said late on Thursday.

Solana is a high-performance Blockchain supporting builders around the world creating crypto apps that scale. Solana said that after an investigation by developers, ecosystem teams, and security auditors, “it appears affected addresses were at one point created, imported, or used in Slope mobile wallet applications”. This exploit was isolated to one wallet on Solana, and hardware wallets used by Slope remain secure.

“While the details of exactly how this occurred are still under investigation, but private key information was inadvertently transmitted to an application monitoring service,” Solana said in a tweet.

There is no evidence the Solana protocol or its cryptography was compromised, it added.

The attack affected “hot” wallets which are always connected to the internet, allowing people to store and send tokens easily. The attack also compromised other wallets including Phantom, Solflare and TrustWallet.

Phantom, a Solana-based wallet that hit $1.2 billion in valuation earlier this year, said it’s “working closely with other teams to get to the bottom of a reported vulnerability in the Solana ecosystem.” “At this time, the team does not believe this is a Phantom-specific issue,” the wallet developer said.

The attack on Solana came as cryptocurrency service Nomad suffered a “chaotic” attack, with hackers draining almost $200 million in digital funds from the company within a few hours.

  • Cryptocurrency Hack: More Than 8,000 Solana Crypto Wallets Drained

New Delhi: In yet another major cryptocurrency hack, the popular blockchain Solana on Wednesday reported that an unknown bad actor has drained funds from 7,767 wallets on the Solana Network. However, Blockchain security firm SlowMist claimed more than 8,000 wallets had been drained worth around $8 million. Cryptocurrency prices in India today (03 Aug 2022).

Solana is a high-performance Blockchain supporting builders around the world creating crypto apps that scale today. The attack has affected “hot” wallets which are always connected to the internet, allowing people to store and send tokens easily.

“Engineers from multiple ecosystems, with the help of several security firms, are investigating drained wallets on Solana. There is no evidence hardware wallets are impacted,” said Solana.

The exploit has affected several wallets, including Slope and Phantom. This appears to have affected both mobile and extension.

“There’s no evidence hardware wallets have been impacted — and users are strongly encouraged to use hardware wallets. Do not reuse your seed phrase on a hardware wallet – create a new seed phrase,” Solana informed. “Wallets drained should be treated as compromised, and abandoned,” it added.

The attack also compromised other wallets including Phantom, Slope, Solflare, and TrustWallet. Phantom, a Solana-based wallet that hit $1.2 billion in valuation earlier this year, said it’s “working closely with other teams to get to the bottom of a reported vulnerability in the Solana ecosystem.”

“At this time, the team does not believe this is a Phantom-specific issue,” the wallet developer said.

This could be a “supply chain attack” that manages to steal users’ private keys. The attack on Solana came as cryptocurrency service Nomad suffered a “chaotic” attack, with hackers draining almost $200 million in digital funds from the company within a few hours.

  • Crypto Service Nomad Suffers ‘Chaotic’ Attack, Loses $200 Million in Hack: Report

San Francisco, Aug 3: Cryptocurrency service Nomad has suffered a “chaotic” attack, with hackers draining almost $200 million in digital funds from the company within a few hours.

In a tweet, Nomad said it is “working around the clock to address the situation and have notified law enforcement and retained leading firms for blockchain intelligence and forensics”.

According to CBSNews, the company added that its goal is to identify the accounts that siphoned cryptocurrencies from its service and recover the money.

Nomad operates a so-called blockchain bridge, which allows people to move tokens from one blockchain to another, solving the challenge of interoperability between different types of cryptocurrencies. Ibinex Leads Yet Again As the Most Reliable, Hassle-Free, and Quick Crypto Exchange.

But these technologically complex services have been prone to attacks, with hackers exploiting security vulnerabilities to steal more than $1 billion in assets so far in 2022, according to forensics firm Elliptic.

One security researcher on Twitter described the Nomad attack as “chaotic” and a “free-for-all,” with people swarming to drain the accounts after realising that a security flaw meant that if they could find a valid transaction request, they could replace the other person’s address with their own and effectively redirect assets to their own accounts.

Nomad blamed “impersonators posing as Nomad and providing fraudulent addresses to collect funds.”

The theft follows the hack of blockchain bridge Harmony in June, which lost about $100 million in the attack. These bridges are seen as especially vulnerable to hacks partly because of their relative newness and inevitable bugs and are therefore frequently targeted by cybercriminals.

Recent hacks include the $320 million wormhole hack in February and the more than $600 million Ronin Network hack in March.

  • Cryptocurrency Hack: Hackers Steal $100 Million in Digital Tokens From Harmony Blockchain Bridge

New Delhi, June 25: Hackers have stolen at least $100 million worth digital tokens from Harmony, the crypto startup behind Horizon Blockchain Bridge which allows users to transfer their crypto assets from one Blockchain to another.

Harmony admitted that a malicious attack happened on its proprietary Horizon Ethereum Bridge and multiple transactions occurred that compromised the bridge with 11 transactions that extracted tokens stored in the bridge.

“The estimated value at the time of the attack was approximately $100 million,” the US-based company said in a statement late on Friday. The start-up said that it has notified its cyber-security partners and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and requested to assist with an investigation in identifying the culprit and methods to retrieve stolen assets.

“We are working around the clock to ensure both the investigation and recovery of stolen funds are concluded in the most time efficient manner possible,” the company added. Harmony said that that focusing on decentralised bridges is an essential step forward for Web3.0. Cryptocurrency Prices in India.

Using Harmony’s Horizon bridge, users can move assets like tokens, stablecoins, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) between Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain and Harmony blockchains. The hackers stole various digital tokens like Ethereum, Binance Coin, Tether, USD Coin and Dai.

The stolen tokens have been swapped for Ethereum using decentralised exchanges, according to Blockchain analysis company Elliptic. Harmony has stopped the Horizon bridge to prevent further transactions and its bridge for Bitcoin was unaffected. Solana Mobile Launches ‘Saga’ Android Smartphone To Make Cryptocurrency & NFT Trading Easy.

In April this year, hackers stole nearly $180 million in cryptocurrency from Beanstalk Farms, a decentralised finance (De-Fi) project. The FBI in April blamed North Korean hacker group Lazarus for stealing $625 million in cryptocurrency from the Ronin Network, owned by developer group Sky Mavis. In January this year, hackers stole crypto tokens worth $120 million from Blockchain-based decentralised finance (DeFi) platform BadgerDAO.

New Delhi, January 29: Hackers have stolen cryptocurrency worth $80 million from Qubit Finance, a decentralised finance (DeFi) platform, and the company is now begging hackers to return the stolen cryptocurrency. The value of cryptocurrency stolen makes this the largest hack of 2022 to date.

Qubit Finance acknowledged the hack, and said in a tweet on Friday that the hackers minted unlimited Xplosive Ethereum (xETH) to borrow on Binance Smart Chain (BSC).

“The team is currently working with security and network partners on next steps,” it posted. The Qubit Finance team directly appealed to the hacker, asking them to negotiate with the team in order to minimise losses for the Qubit community. Cryptocurrency Prices in India.

The company contacted the hacker and offered them the maximum bug bounty in exchange for a return of the funds. Qubit provides a service known as a “bridge” between different blockchains, meaning that deposits made in one cryptocurrency can be withdrawn in another.

Since the launch of Binance Smart Chain (BSC) in 2020, several DeFi projects have suffered hacking, including a hack on Uranium Finance for $50 million in April last year, and an $88 million hack against Venus Finance in May, according to Crypto Briefing.
