Google extends this exclusive Google Classroom feature to other GMeet users – morningtidings

Google Workspace users can now add up to 25 co-hosts for a virtual meeting. Google has shared an update via its Workspace blog post. “We’re expanding meeting moderation controls in Google Meet with several highly requested features” wrote Google in the post.
As per the post, Google is bringing three important changes to Google Meet for Workspace. First, users will be able to assign up to 25 co-hosts per meeting. It has also added safety features to limit who can share screens during a virtual meeting.
Second, meeting hosts will also be able to control who can send chat messages, end meetings and mute all users.
Third feature is the “Quick access” setting that offers easy control over who needs to request permission to join a meeting. “We hope these expanded controls make it easier for you to keep meetings productive, safe, and help prevent potential disruptions”, Google said.
These safety features till now were available to Google Workspace for Education customers. Now, they will be available for all Google Meet users on the desktop and mobile.
The quick access control will be turned on by default for most Google Workspace users. When quick access is enabled, meeting participants from your domain can automatically join the meeting from a mobile or desktop device, and by dialing in.
In case the quick access is disabled, the host must join the meeting first. Further, only invited participants can join without asking. All other attendees and those dialing in must ask to join the meeting. No anonymous users will be able to join the meeting and only the host can dial out of the meeting.
When will these new features become available
Android and web users will get the new features starting August 16. It will have a gradual roll out with up to 15 days feature visibility. Google Meet on iOS users will start receiving the new features from August 30.

  • Google launches ‘app’ for Google Meet, makes it easier to join video calls – morningtidings

Google launches ‘app’ for Google Meet, makes it easier to join video calls – morningtidings

Internet search giant Google has launched a standalone web app for its video calling platform Google Meet. The newly launched Google Meet app is Progressive Web App (PWA) and is different from a standard app as it operates in a web browser. Such apps are said to deliver faster web experience.
How does Google Meet Progressive Web App work
According to Google, this PWA of Google Meet has all the same features as Google Meet on the web. It runs on any device with Google Chrome browser version 73 — which was released in March 2019 — and up.
Which devices support Google Meet Progressive Web App
Any device running on Windows, MacOS, Chrome OS, and Linux will be able to support Google Meet PWA.
Is the Google Meet Progressive Web App only for paid Workspace customers
No, all Google accounts users including Google Workspace customers, as well as G Suite Basic and Business customers and users with personal accounts will be able to use Google Meet PWA.
How to install Google Meet Progressive Web App

    • On your device, open meet.google.com
    • At the top right of the browser, in the URL bar, click Install
    • The Meet app appears in your app dock

Google Meet now has a time limit for group calls
Earlier this month, Google imposed a 60 minute time limit for calls with three or more participants with personal (or free) accounts. After 55 minutes of the call, all the participants of the call will get a notification that the call is about to end. For one-on-one calls, Google continues to offer support of up to 24 hours for free Google account holders.
Google hasn’t given any formal reason for not imposing a time restriction for group calls, but it does seem to be the way the company wants to ensure that more people upgrade to the Workspace Individual subscription plan.
