  • PornHub.com Used AI to Restore the Oldest Erotic Films in 4K as a Part of Their New Launch ‘Remastured’ (Watch Campaign Video)

PornHub.com Used AI to Restore the Oldest Erotic Films in 4K as a Part of Their New Launch ‘Remastured’ (Watch Campaign Video)

The XXX website PornHub.com has launched ‘Remastured’ that brings back some of the oldest movies to life. The ‘Remastured’ project uses Artificial Intelligence to restore old sex scenes. The new form of XXX scenes and videos see AI help restore and colorise NSFW content from almost 125 years ago. The porn giant harnessed machine learning and 100,000 adult images and videos to teach the AI how to colorize the films (perhaps it also learned a thing or two about how people passed the time 100 years before smartphones). Pornhub.com also shared a campaign video on YouTube, check here.

Several algorithms were used to restore the films with “limited human intervention,” according to PornHub. The process started by reducing noise and sharpening and contrasting images. The videos were boosted to run in 4K at 60 frames per second, and audio was either remastered or a new soundtrack was added.

The titillating movies that PornHub has restored include The Kiss from 1896, which featured the first smooch captured on film. Fun fact: the 18-second movie was distributed by a holding company for Thomas Edison’s manufacturing firms, and PornHub says it was “denounced as shocking and obscene to viewers” at the time. The library of 20 scenes also includes 1897 short from legendary filmmaker Georges Méliès called After the Ball, which includes simulated nudity. The XXX porn site recently took down millions of videos from unverified users in an ongoing investigation.  Pornhub said that the claims are untrue but are now verifying the content that’s been uploaded to the XXX site. Even major credit card companies Visa and MasterCard investigated their business relationship with Pornhub and revealed that they would no longer allow their cards to be used on the XXX  platform. Also, in the efforts to make pornhub.com safer the XXX website has now decided to have a “biometric system” in place to verify users.

Pornhub.com shutdown row has surged after over two million people signed the petition against the adult porn website to shut it down. The “Shut Down Pornhub and Hold Its Executives Accountable for Aiding Trafficking” petition aka #Traffickinghub campaign on www.change.org founded by Laila Mickelwait and powered by the anti-trafficking organization Exodus Cry. The petition further reads how, “A quick search for the word “teen” turns up titles such as “Young Girl Tricked,” “Innocent Brace Faced Tiny Teen F—ed”, “Tiny Petite Thai Teen”, “Teen Little Girl First Time,” on and on ad infinitum.” One of the incidents that the petition cites is that of a 15-year-old girl who went missing for a year. Her video was later found on Pornhub.  Petition Against XXX Website Pornhub Receives Two Million Signs Demanding The Porn Site To Shut Down for Sex Trafficking & Child Rape Videos.

Pornhub.com has recently been banned in Thailand. The XXX porn lovers protested asking the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society for reasons behind the porn ban in the country. The laws state that Porn websites such as pornhub.com, xVideos, xHamster, XNXX.com, YouPorn, HClips, NaughtyAmerica etc. must follow certain processes and scrutiny protocol when it comes to hiring their pornstars or hosting a porn video. Apart from a clear contract containing what is expected from them, the contract must be fool-proof. Even amateur porn sites such as xnxxx.com, WatchMyExGF.com, WatchMyGF.me hire people to act for their XXX videos following a set of rules and regulations.

  • ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Jumanji’, other franchise films to hit Netflix after theaters

‘Spider-Man’, ‘Jumanji’, other franchise films to hit Netflix after theaters

The five-year arrangement will begin with the 2022 slate of movies, which is scheduled to include Marvel film ‘Morbius’ and Brad Pitt thriller ‘Bullet Train’

Streaming service Netflix Inc reached a deal to offer new “Spider-Man” movies and other films from Sony Pictures to U.S. customers after they play in theaters, the companies said on Thursday.

The five-year arrangement will begin with the 2022 slate of movies, which is scheduled to include Marvel film “Morbius,” best-selling book adaptation “Where the Crawdads Sing” and Brad Pitt thriller “Bullet Train.”

Future releases are expected to include new installments in the Spider-Man, Venom, Jumanji and Bad Boys franchises.

The movies will hit Netflix after they have finished their run in theaters and been made available for home viewing viavideo-on-demand. That period typically extends for months, though studios have been experimenting with offering films in homes sooner during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the new deal, Netflix also will stream some older films from Sony’s library, and will have the first chance to pick up any movies that Sony makes directly for streaming.

The world’s largest streaming service is looking to bolster its movie offerings as it faces growing competition from Walt Disney Co, AT&T Inc’s HBO Max and others.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The cost to Netflix depends in part on how many movies Sony releases and how each film performs at the box office.

Shares in Netflix rose nearly 1.2% to $553.85 in afternoon trading on Nasdaq.

  • Rare Marathi films make way to NFAI vaults

Rare Marathi films make way to NFAI vaults

The prints, which are in the 16mm and 35mm format, also contain some important Hindi films.

In a major acquisition of vernacular cinema classics, the vaults of the city-based National Film Archive of India (NFAI) have added 89 film prints, a significant number of them from the ‘Golden Age’ of Marathi cinema.

The highlight of this collection is two rare Marathi films – the historical Tai Teleen (1953) and Pavanakathcha Dhondi (1966) which were considered to be hitherto lost, informed Prakash Magdum, Director, NFAI.

Tai Teleen, directed by K.P. Bhave, starred renowned artistes like Shanta Apte, Sudha Apte, Nalini Borkar and Zuzarrao Pawar, while Pavanakathcha Dhondi, directed by Anant Thakur had bagged the ‘Best Marathi Film’ at the 1966 National Film awards. Thakur had earlier directed the Raj Kapoor starrer Chori Chori in 1956 and this was his first film in Marathi,” informed Mr. Magdum.

Pavanakathcha Dhondi was notable for being produced by Usha Mangeshkar and had starred renowned Marathi stars Jayashree Gadkar, along with brothers Chandrakant and Suryakant, who played on-screen brothers in a rare instance.

The film was based on the popular novel by eminent litterateur G. N. Dandekar and the music was composed by Hridayanath Mangeshkar.

Another highlight of the collection is a famous Ram Gabale directed film, Dev Pavala (1950). The film starring D. Malavankar and Vishnupant Jog was shot at the iconic Prabhat Studio in Pune.

The prints, which are in the 16mm and 35mm format, also contain some important Hindi films.

“The collection includes 23 black-and-white Hindi films, a number of which are aesthetically and culturally significant. These include Shakti Samanta’s Naughty Boy (1962) with Kishore Kumar as the Hero, Mohan Kumar’s Aman (1967), which features rare cameo appearances by Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh and philosopher Bertrand Russell. Other notable titles include Guest House (1959) by Ravindra Dave and Taj Mahal (1963) by M. Sadiq,” said Mr. Magdum.

Wong Kar Wai addresses controversy surrounding the 4K restoration of his films

The legendary filmmaker is currently busy supervising the 4K restorations of his older work, compiled in a new box set from the Criterion Collection

Legendary director Wong Kar Wai says he is tired of all the talk about cinema being dead as he believes people enjoy watching movies.

The director, who is behind international classics such as “In The Mood for Love”, “Chungking Express” and “2046” among others, is currently busy supervising the 4K restorations of his older work, compiled in a new box set from the Criterion Collection.

In an email interview with the IndieWire, the 62-year-old director spoke about the controversy surrounding the 4K restoration of his films among his hard-core fans and questions about cinema’s future amid the coronavirus.

“I’m tired of all this ‘cinema is dead’ s***. People enjoy watching movies, period. What makes them hesitant are the risks (under COVID) and the costs of watching films in cinemas today.”

“For people who really care about the future of cinema, I suggest they go buy a ticket to support their local cinemas when they reopen, because many of them are barely surviving. Or at least keep positive,” the director said.

Wong, who last directed “The Grandmaster” in 2013, is currently working on TV series “Blossoms”, an adaptation of a novel by Jin Yucheng.

“I am lucky to be working with my crew in a safe space in Shanghai,” the director said.

Asked about the restoration of his previous films and how they may not go down well with his devoted fans, Wong said there are always things that can be fixed.

“When a film needs to be restored, there are always things that can be fixed, otherwise why bother with the restoration in the first place.” The director has defended the decision to restore his films, the publication noted, with a poetic disclaimer that can be found on the Criterion booklet.

“As the saying goes: ‘No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man’,” the director writes, inviting the audience to join him in starting afresh.

In his interview to IndieWire earlier this week, Wong reiterated his point with a new metaphor. “As someone once said: ‘Art is a never-ending dance of illusions’. It is impossible for us to dance exactly like we did before. What has really changed is not the films but the man on the floor,” the director said.

  • Sagar Sarhadi (1933-2021): When romance came calling

Sagar Sarhadi (1933-2021): When romance came calling

Starting with ‘Kabhi Kabhie,’ it was Sarhadi’s writing that was at the heart of Yash Chopra’s romantic turn in the mid-70s and 80s

When Amitabh Bachchan looks deep into the eyes of Rakhee in Yash Chopra’s Kabhi Kabhie and says, “Have you ever looked at your eyes? Wherever they look, they establish a relationship,” it is the magic of Sagar Sarhadi’s writing that is at work. The writer-director completed his relationship with the world on Monday at his Mumbai residence at the age of 87 because of age-related problems.

Starting with Kabhi Kabhie, followed by Noorie (that Chopra presented), Silsila and Chandni, it was Sarhadi’s writing that was at the heart of Yash Chopra’s romantic turn in the mid-70s and 80s. Like Khwaja Ahmed Abbas lent heft to Raj Kapoor’s vision, Sarhadi gave voice to Chopra’s charming visuals.

Interestingly, like Abbas, Sarhadi was also a committed Marxist and a leading light in Progressive Writers’ Movement who wrote stirring plays like Bhagat Singh Ki Wapsi, Khyal Ki Dustak, and Raj Durbar. Jeev Janawar, a collection of his short stories continues to evoke interest.

His nephew Ramesh Talwar was the chief assistant of Yash Chopra. One day, he invited Chopra to watch Sarhadi’s one-act Urdu play Mirza Sahiban. Impressed, Chopra offered him the opportunity to write Kabhi Kabhie and thus started a decade-long relationship of mutual respect.

Born as Ganga Sagar Talwar in Baffa village in North West Frontier Province, Sarhadi was uprooted by Partition and carried the pain and anguish of a refugee all through his life.

He changed his name to carry an identity of his province with him and also to reflect his appreciation for the work of Zia Sarhadi, known for social commentaries like Hum Log and Footpath, who also hailed from NWFP.

Having lived the life of a refugee in Delhi, before shifting to Bombay with his brother for better education, his writings explored what are those forces that uproot a man from his home. With Gulzar as his senior in Khalsa College, Sarhadi drowned himself in books and emerged with a unique voice. Initially, the distributors found his dialogues bookish but as Kabhi Kabhie’s popularity swelled and Sarhadi won two Filmfare awards for the film, the naysayers had to chew their criticism.

In most of his works, the characters, particularly, the female ones were just metaphors for his sufferings during the Partition, when the fate of more than a million people was decided by somebody else.

Manmohan Krishna’s Noorie (1979), based on his short story “Raakha”, was inspired from his experiences in his village Baffa, whose meadows and springs he was forced to leave and had to develop a sense of belonging in an urban jungle.

The writer of some of the best romantic films, Sarhadi, in his interviews, always described himself as a man who was angry with the world. Over the years, he cultivated that anger to create a lasting impression. When he felt, he was getting drawn to commercial cinema, he decided to direct Bazaar that had a social commitment.

Inspired by a true story that he came across in a newspaper about a family selling off their daughter to an Arab in Hyderabad, Sarhadi researched the subject and came up with a powerful script on human relations where again the fate of a girl was decided against her wishes. Yash Chopra offered to produce it but Sarhadi wanted complete control. He only asked Chopra to arrange raw stock for him.

Supriya Pathak, who won the Filmfare Award for best supporting actress for the film, once told this journalist, that Sarhadi shot the film like life as it is. “We sat on the terrace, sang, and conversed. There was no point where you could arre ye director ne kiya hai (this is director’s doing) Without any frills, he realises the essence of the story,” she said.

Though he never got married, Sarhadi always stood for his female characters. He maintained that he had had a number of romantic dalliances that made him understand women, but none could fructify into a lasting relationship. Having studied Freud in detail, Sarhadi had a grasp over human psychology, and it reflected in his characters.

Unfortunately, he could not build on the success of Bazaar because of some jinxed projects. He remained in demand in the commercial circuit as he wrote dialogues for Shah Rukh Khan’s debut Deewana and collaborated with Rakesh Roshan on Kaho Na Pyaar Hai that launched Hrithik Roshan. But creatively, he felt his worth remained unutilised.

In his last days, he was bitter about the changing mores of a mobile phone-run society that doesn’t give literature as much importance as it should. His last film Chausar, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Amruta Subhash, a contemporary tale that draws from Pandav’s losing Draupadi, in a game of ludo in Mahabharat, remains unreleased.

  • Rani Mukerji to star in intense drama ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’

Rani Mukerji to star in intense drama ‘Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway’

Billed as an untold story about a journey of a mother’s battle against an entire country, the movie will be directed by Ashima Chibber

Production houses Zee Studios and Emmay Entertainment have come together for actor Rani Mukerji’s next feature film, “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway”.

Billed as an untold story about a journey of a mother’s battle against an entire country, the movie will be directed by Ashima Chibber, known for “Mere Dad Ki Maruti”.

Mukerji, who turned 43 on Sunday, said the announcement has made her birthday special.

The actor said “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway” is one of the most “significant films” of her career spanning 25 years. She made her debut with the 1996 drama “Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat”.

“I started my career with ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat’, which was a woman-centric film, and coincidentally in my 25th year, I’m announcing a film that is also centered around a woman’s resolve to fight against all odds and take on a country.”

“’Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’ is a story of true human resilience and it is a film that is dedicated to all the mothers out there. It is truly one of the most amazing scripts that I have read in a long time and I immediately decided to do this special film,” Mukerji said in a statement.

The actor was last seen on the big screen in the 2019 action drama “Mardaani 2” and is gearing up for the release of “Bunty Aur Babli 2” next month.

Mukerji said she is thrilled to collaborate with filmmaker Nikkhil Advani of Emmay Entertainment, who she has known since her breakthrough “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” (1998) on which he served as an assistant director to then debutant director Karan Johar.

“I am happy that Zee Studios has collaborated with them on this powerful script. To partner with Ashima Chibber, my director, is something I am looking forward to, whose vision for the film and intent with this project has truly bowled me over,” she added.

Inspired by a true story, the film will mark Mukerji’s first collaboration with Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani (Emmay Entertainment) and Zee Studios.

Monisha Advani, partner, Emmay Entertainment is happy to back the “extremely potent drama” and said the film has a sensitive script.

“To have the inimitable Rani Mukerji helm the cast line up is nothing short of a coup that has powered us to raise the bar,” she said.

Shariq Patel, CEO, Zee Studios said “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway” fits into their vision of backing path-breaking stories.

“We are pleased to collaborate with Rani for the first time. She has several memorable roles to her credit whether it is playing a fierce cop or a teacher battling all odds. She is such an evolved and powerhouse actor.

“It will be a delight to see how Ashima has envisioned Mrs Chatterjee’s character. We cannot wait to bring this story to the audiences,” Patel said.

Currently, in the pre-production stage, the film is expected to go on floors soons.
