Familiar rival collide for the third time

Vijayabalikar is working on a number of projects for Hatrick in Viralimalai; DMK sheds light on their ‘corrupt’ works

Battling a familiar rival and an anti-incumbency battle, Health Minister C.W. Vijayabaskar, who has faced several storms under the AIADMK government, is aiming for a third consecutive victory from his home ground of Viralimalai in Pudukkai district.

Interestingly, the DMK’s M. This is also the third time in a row for Palanappan. After the minister lost the last two elections, he is making an all-round bid to win the constituency.

Viralimalai was made a constituency after the delimitation process. This is the third election after 2011. Combining more than 80 panchayats, three panchayat unions and a couple of nagar panchayats, Viralimalai is a largely drought-prone constituency, where agriculture is the primary occupation. Kallar and Adi Dravid are spread over all the constituencies, which also have a mix of Agumudaiyars, Udayars, Nikears and Muthariaars.

Virilimalai has undergone substantial infrastructure development in five years, with the famous Sri Subramaniam Swamy Temple situated atop a hill. However, there are issues that remain to be noted. While the main roads connecting Virilimalai to Pudukottai and Kiranur have been re-laid, many inner villages do not have good roads. The Cauvery Joint Drinking Water Scheme also supplies supplies to the interior areas. Nevertheless, according to the residents, supplies are made once in four to six days. Locals also complain of illegal sand mining from forest streams in many villages.

There remains a long pending demand for the establishment of a government arts and science college, which forces students to travel to Tiruchi or Pudukottai for higher education. Lack of jobs has forced many educated youth to go in search of greener pastures. The once-strong gem-cutting industry in Virlimalai and Illupur has been in decline for nearly two decades. Many manufacturing units of Mathur are in the grip of recession.

Dr. In addition to a set of Vijayabaskar projects, Mr. Subramanian Swamy mentions laying a ghat road to the temple, setting up a regional transport office at Illupur, atop Viralimalai hill, setting up a TNSTC depot near Illupur, building a revenue. . Mandal office at Illupur, construction of a separate taluk at Viralimalai, and construction of a new bus stand at Viralimalai amidst his achievements. He has also organized free eye screening camps under his CVB Foundation, distributed free spectacles and performed surgeries. He considers laying the foundation stone for the recent project linking Kaveri-Gundar near Viralimalai, among his achievements. The drought-hit Pudukottai district will benefit extensively from the project along with some other southern districts. His work has generated goodwill, especially after the cyclone Gaza and the epidemic.

But DMK Camp was called by party president MK Stalin. Blamed during his campaign against Vijaybaskar exposing his “corrupt” actions. In 2016, DMKappan gave a tough fight and lost by 8,447 votes. Before he was on the DMK ticket in 2016, he contested as an Independent in 2011 and polled about 16,000 votes.

Given the high stakes, arch rivals are engaged in a no-holds-barred contest. There are indications that this will be another close race.

These communities constitute 38.46% of the DMK-led front and 47.44% of the AIADMK-led coalition.

The communities – Vanniyakula Kshatriya, Mukuluthor (‘Thevars’) and Kongu Vellalar (Gounders) – are responsible for the lion’s share of candidates nominated by the DMK and the AIADMK-led coalition.

According to a study of the caste hierarchy of candidates, done by a group of individuals under the banner of ‘Forum for Real Social Justice and Inclusion’, these communities constitute 38.46% of the DMK-led front candidates and 47.44% of them. The corresponding figures of the AIADMK-led coalition are 42, 32 and 37, one of the study members, R. Subash says.

The DMK-led coalition has fielded 13 Tulava Velala or Mudaliyar and 15 Naidu candidates. But the AIADMK-led coalition has nominated only 10 Naidu candidates. The DMK-led front has nominated 7 candidates from the Hindu Nadar community and eight from the AIADMK-led front. For religious minorities, the DMK-led front has elected 11 Muslims and 10 Christians, including 7 Nadars, while the AIADMK-led front has retained 4 Muslims and 8 Christians, including 4 Nadars. However, the number of Christians does not include the community of fishermen who are taken into account separately.

Isai Vellalar and Brahmin are two “mutually exclusive” communities for the two structures. The DMK-led coalition has not nominated the three Christian Vellar candidates and the AIADMK-led coalition. The AIADMK-led coalition has pitted the front with two Brahmins and DMK.

For the 44 seats reserved for SC, an academic doing an independent study of the breakdown of candidates’ caste says that although Arunthathiyars live in a large number of western districts, many reserved seats have been given to other SC communities. The DMK-led front has selected four Arunathiyars and the AIADMK-led coalition three.

Both alliances have fielded 14–15 Devendrakula Vellar candidates.

DMK complains about HC income tax proceedings on the verge of elections

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) on Thursday complained to the Madras High Court that the Income Tax authorities had conducted a search and seizure action at the residence of its General Secretary Duraimurgan in 2019, but it was decided to take those assessment proceedings. Party proceedings, and a charitable trust run by the party, on the verge of assembly elections this year.

Appearing before Justice Anita Sumant, Senior Advocate P.K. Wilson questioned the validity of the orders passed by the Income Tax Commissioner (Exemption) this year to transfer tax assessment files to the DMK as well as the DMK Charitable Trust to an Assistant Commissioner in Chennai. The Central Circle, which was already handling files related to Mr. Durimurugan, “to facilitate a coordinated investigation.”

Stating that the search and seizure operation in connection with Mr Durimurugan was carried out when his son Mr Kathir Anand contested from Vellore parliamentary constituency in April 2019, the senior counsel said: “This discovery was made two years ago , But the transfer orders are now being passed only on the eve of assembly elections as DMK is the main opposition party in the state.

The lawyer also wondered how the two unrelated evaluation proceedings could be dealt with simultaneously. “Only because Mr. Durimurugan’s house was raided in connection with Mr. Kathir Anand’s candidacy, could there be a reason for transferring the files of DMK Charitable Trust to the same officer? We are not doing business with Mr. Durai Murugan or Mr. Kathir Anand, ”he told the court, urging it to cancel the transfer orders.

Further, providing an analogy, he said: “It is the same as saying that Wilson is a member of the bar association and since we raided his house, we are also looking at the bar association’s assessment files investigating Wilson’s case.” Will transfer to the officer. ” Alleging complete non-application of mind by the commissioner before passing the transfer order, the counsel said that the officials had also failed to provide acceptable reasons.

“Simply saying that ‘coordinated inquiry’ is not a reason. He said that how the search and seizure of the house of Commissioner Mr. Durimurugan is related to the trust. After listening to him in part, the judge adjourned the case till March 30 for hearing as well as Additional Solicitor General R.K.

  • DMK complains about HC income tax proceedings on the verge of elections

High court dismisses the case filed by DMK

The party had challenged the Postal Ballet system; The court said that ECI has only tried to be inclusive

The Madras High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition by the DMK challenging the constitutional validity of Section 60 (c) of the Representation of the People Act of 1951, empowering the Election Commission of India (ECI) to inform a section of the electorate makes. Such as people over the age of 80, physically disabled, under quarantine due to COVID-19 and those involved in essential services, who can choose to cast their votes via postal ballot instead of going to polling stations .

Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamurthy also rejected the DMK’s contention that the ECI had no jurisdiction to issue guidelines regarding the manner of such postal vote. The judges said that the Commission had an absolute authority under Article 324 of the Constitution to exercise superintendence and control over elections. He further found no arbitrariness on the part of the Commission in the choice of those persons who could be allowed to cast votes through postal ballot.

The idea appears to be for those who cannot physically attend the polling station to cast their votes, the First Division Bench stated and said: “If there is such an idea, the classes of persons admitted are “There is no arbitrariness. According to the amendments to the Code of Conduct Elections of 1961 and 2020, the object in particular appears to bear the basic right of such individuals to participate in the democratic process.”

It also rejected the argument that there was excessive delegation of powers on the Commission.

“If there is excessive delegation in favor of the Election Commission, there may be little room to question the authority of the Commission. On the other hand, if the Election Commission is seen to be acting more than its brief merit of the 1961 rules, then no case of excessive delegation will be made. In any case, in the backdrop of the rule-making provision of section 169 of the 1951 mandatory consultation with the Election Commission, the 1961 rules, particularly amendments brought about in 2019 and 2020, do not amount to excessive delegation. ”

Empowering the verdict, the Chief Justice wrote: “It has to be accepted that whatever the Election Commission has done here is inclusive and allows some individuals who are not empowered to exercise their franchise Placed so that the postal ballot can be used and participate in the celebration of the festival of democracy… one can add, with humility, that if the conduct of the election made the process inclusive without compromising the confidentiality or impartiality of the ballot Goes, it would be a great reason to celebrate. And praise the conducting body. “

Adding a word of caution, he also said, “It is not meant to suggest that the challenge here was entirely without foundation as the experience of the process initiated by the Election Commission would show that such a process is geography. How can I become more sophisticated and attested? ” Climate of place

The DMK had filed a case stating that the postal ballot system could create external influence and lose the voter freedom and privacy that voters enjoy during voting in enclosed enclosures in polling stations through EVMs.

  • Witness the battle of Karur heavyweight

Witness the battle of Karur heavyweight

The Karur constituency is poised for a fierce battle, with AIADMK’s Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar and DMK’s former Transport Minister V.K. Senthil Balaji is waving swords.

Amidst mutual accusations over the use of money power, the constituency is undergoing fierce and hectic electrification.

Mr. Balaji returned to his home ground for the purpose of taking on his longtime political rival, Mr. Vijayabhaskar. In 2006 and 2011, he won from the constituency as a candidate for AIADMK. But in 2016, she was transferred to Aravakurichi by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who removed her from the post of district secretary. Chief Minister Edappadi K. He was disqualified as an MLA for rebelling against Palaniswami and turning loyalty to the AMMK. He later joined the DMK and won the by-election in Aravakurichi in 2019.

According to one industrialist, there has been a labor shortage in Karur since the election announcement, as a section of male workers was lured by the parties. It is a month-long festival for workers as they receive “money, liquor and biryani”.

Lack of drinking water is a major electoral issue here. Although Amravati passes through the city and Cauvery is nearby, residents are facing water scarcity as supplies are limited to once every five days.

Environmentalists are up in arms over the discharge of untreated wastes by dyeing units in Noyal and Amravati. The long pending demand among the residents about the construction of a new bus stand between the AIADMK and the DMK is another major issue.

The city, a major home textile manufacturing and export hub, was thronged by DMK and AIADMK with a crowd of thousands on Monday, when Mr. Balaji and Mr. Vijayabhaskar filed nominations.

Though MNM, NTK and DMDK have fielded their candidates, the real fight is between Mr. Balaji and Mr. Vijayabhaskar. These two are leaving no stone unturned to win the confidence of the voters.

The constituency has a large population of influential Kongu Vellala gounders, besides Mudaliars, Pillis, Vaniyars, Chettiyars and Dalits. Both Mr. Balaji and Mr. Vijayabhaskar are Kongu Velela gounders, and see the election as a ‘do or die’ battle.

Anticipating a fierce battle from Shri Balaji, Mr. Vijayabhaskar launched an image-promoting campaign several months ago by planting hundreds of trees along the roadside across the city. The MRV Trust, named after him, maintains the trees well. Mr. Vijayabhaskar has enhanced the confidence of a section of the electorate by “attending and sponsoring” social, cultural and community functions. A section of entrepreneurs owning textile and bus body building units feel that the minister has acted as a bridge to resolve the grievances.

It was during his tenure as a minister that the Government Medical College was established. Using his proximity to the Chief Minister, Mr. Vijayabaskar fulfilled most of his promises to voters, party officials.

Banking on his acquaintance with the voters, Mr. Balaji is going door-to-door to get the support of the voters. His tendency to repeatedly change political affiliations and his sudden rise in the party ranks has led to increased discontent among a section of the DM cadre.

Karur is the stronghold of the AIADMK. In elections held here since 1977, the party won seven, the DMK three and the Congress one. Mr. Vijayabaskar won the 2016 election with a narrow margin of 441 votes. But given the changed political equations and high stakes, the constituency is headed for a photo finish.

  • Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 | Debate on live telecast of assembly proceedings

Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 | Debate on live telecast of assembly proceedings

The DMK’s election promise to broadcast the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly has focused on this issue.

Currently, while arrangements are in place to record the proceedings of the House, only select portions are issued to media houses, leading to complaints of censorship.

In the mid-1990s, former Congress legislator S. S., who demanded a live telecast of the proceedings of the House. “Democracy is a system from discussion and such discussion should be transparent,” he said.

“The live telecast will show whether an MLA is coming to the House, being attentive, raising questions and moving various call speeds. This is definitely a deterrent for undisciplined legislators and also an incentive for artists, ”Mr. Alphonse said.

But what if an MLA uses unnatural remarks in the House and it is aired? “It can also happen on a public platform. Let people understand that these are the characters who are elected to the House and decide for themselves. They may speak this way on one occasion, but when questioned about it outside, they cannot do it again. The Congress leader said that everyone should be made accountable for what he speaks and does.

    D. an activist who moved the Madras High Court to telecast the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly. Jagadishwaran argued that citizens had the right to know what their elected representatives did in the House. He said that the proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were broadcast through dedicated TV channels.

Assembly proceedings in Andhra Pradesh are webcast live and Karnataka allows uninterrupted feeds to all private channels. Kerala has conducted a live webcast from the Chief Minister’s Office. “Several other states including Gujarat and Bihar are taking steps to conduct live telecasts of all assembly sessions,” he said.

In 1996, the PA Sangma Committee on Broadcasting of Proceedings of the Legislative Assembly recommended that the infrastructure be established to facilitate live telecast of proceedings of the State Legislative Assembly. In several conferences of presiding officers of legislators, steps have been taken towards the establishment of such live telecasts.

During the hearing of Mr. Jagadiswaran’s petition, the state submitted that telecasting proceedings are the prerogative of the chairman and would require ₹ 60 crore for the necessary facilities.

“Even today, the Doordarshan channel has a live telecast of the Governor’s address and budget session. There is an Albee citing infrastructure as a barrier. We met DMK leader MK Stalin and leaders of CPI, CPI (M) and other parties, urging them to take up the issue in the assembly. It is good to see this figure in the DMK manifesto.

A former Assembly secretary confirmed that lack of funds to telecast the proceedings was the primary reason behind not implementing it. “Houses of Parliament are broadcast live because they have sufficient budget, but this is not the case with us. In addition, both parties [AIADMK and DMK] Not keen on airing the proceedings live. “

TN Assembly Election | Stalin says BJP’s win will be harmful for Tamil Nadu

The DMK president said that the CM has promised the Center the rights of the state: “We are losing one right after another,”

Any victory for the BJP in the assembly elections will be harmful for Tamil Nadu. AIADMK’s victory also means BJP’s victory, DMK President MK Stalin said during his campaign in Madurai on Wednesday.

“Though there is no BJP legislator in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, it is the BJP that is ruling in the state. The only member of the NDA in the Lok Sabha, P.W. Rabindranath Kumar is acting like a BJP member.

Of Chief Minister Edappadi. Describing Palaniswami as ‘worthless’, Mr. Stalin said that the CM has given the powers of the state to the Center. “We’re losing one right after the other,” he said. First, the state’s rights over the Cauvery water issue and NEET were lost, then the state could not get the tax rate from the Center under GST or its tax share. AIIMS remains a non-starter, announced in 2016.

“The then Chief Minister M. The DMK under Karunanidhi constructed the new secretariat building. Similarly, DMK will bring AIIMS to Madurai when it comes to power, ”he said.

The AIADMK has failed to conduct the entire local body elections. After holding rural local body elections, urban local body elections were not held. “I promise that soon after assuming power, DMK will conduct elections for the Nagar Panchayats, Municipalities and Corporations,” he said.

Even government employees were not happy with the AIADMK government. Mr. Stalin said that State Transport Corporation employees, lunch workers, sanitation workers and teachers were all fighting for their demands.

Following the rise in electricity rates, the rise in the price of milk, petrol and diesel, the price of essential commodities was rising, he compared the current prices of essential commodities during the DMK regime. He alleged that there is heavy competition between Modi government and AIADMK government to impose new taxes on the people, due to which the prices of essential commodities are rising.

With the aim of reclaiming the devastated Tamil Nadu in the last 10 years, DMK has launched seven schemes with a long-term vision that will be implemented in phases over 10 years, Mr. Stalin said of the Secular Progressive Alliance Seeking votes for candidates, PTR Palanivel Thiagarajan (Madurai Central), G. Thalapathi (Madurai North), c. Chinnamal (Madurai West) and M. Bomanathan of (Madurai South).

  • The defeat of the DMK is the sole objective of the AIADMK AMMK-DMDK alliance, says Dhinakaran

The defeat of the DMK is the sole objective of the AIADMK AMMK-DMDK alliance, says Dhinakaran

AMMK general secretary TTV Dinakaran met with DMDK founder Vijayakanth and treasurer Premlata Vijayakanth on Wednesday at DMDK headquarters.

AMMK and DMDK have come together to ensure DMK’s defeat, an “evil force,” and AIADMK, “a force of betrayal”, AMMK Secretary General TTV Dhinakaran reiterated on Wednesday.

“This is our only objective,” the AMMK leader said after calling DMDK founder Vijayakanth and treasurer Premlata Vijayakanth at DMDK headquarters in Chennai.

Rejecting the suggestion that the coalition was acted in a hurry, Mr. Dhinakaran claimed that the talks took place for 10–15 days. There were “legitimate issues” in the identification and allocation of 60 constituencies. This was a “give and take” policy adopted by activists and district-level functionaries of the two parties that facilitated the tie-up. He gave the example of Vriddhachalam constituency, which the DMDK sought for Mrs. Vijayakanth. He said, ‘When I made my party’s zonal in-charge aware of this, he took the consent of my party’s candidate in no time. With a view to include DMDK in our front, 42 candidates from my party have come forward to voluntarily withdraw their candidature, ”the AMMK leader explained.

Asked why he did not choose to contest in the RK Nagar assembly constituency from where he was elected in the by-election in December 2017, Mr. Dhinakaran claimed that he wanted to contest from there, but his party officials Advised him to avoid it, as he decided to contest from Kovilpatti in the southern region.

The AMMK leader termed many of the electoral assurances of DMK and AIADMK as “empty promises”.
