“As we continue to invent, we’re shifting some of our efforts to better align with our business priorities, and what we know matters most to customers — which includes maximising our resources and efforts focused on generative AI,” he told employees in the memo. “These shifts are leading us to discontinue some initiatives, which is resulting in several hundred roles being eliminated,” Rausch added.

He said that the company “will communicate with impacted colleagues in India next week, and are following local processes in other regions, which may include time for consultation with employee representative bodies, and possibly resulting in longer timelines to communicate”.

Amazon did not provide further details on the initiatives being discontinued. The e-commerce giant had conducted layoffs in its Devices & Services division last year as part of company-wide cuts. Rausch said that the investments in generative AI are bringing “our vision for an even more intuitive, intelligent, and useful Alexa closer than ever before”. Amazon Layoffs Continue: E-Commerce Giant Lays Off ‘Just Over’ 180 Employees in Its Gaming Division, Shuts Down Crown Channel.

Notification emails will be sent out shortly, and we expect all notifications in the .S and Canada to be completed this morning (Pacific time),” the memo further read. “To those of you impacted by these reductions, please know we did not make this decision lightly,” it added.

The company is providing impacted employees packages that include a separation payment, transitional health insurance benefits, external job placement support, and paid time to conduct job search. Dave Limp, in charge of the Devices & Services division at Amazon, in August announced to leave the company. Former Microsoft executive Panos Panay has succeeded him.

Amazon Layoffs Continue: E-Commerce Giant Lays Off ‘Just Over’ 180 Employees in Its Gaming Division, Shuts Down Crown Channel

San Francisco, November 14: Amazon is laying off over 180 employees in its games division, as the company shuts down its Crown channel that streams on Twitch, closes its Game Growth effort that helps game makers market their products, and “refocusing” the work it does with its free games offered through Prime Gaming. According to a memo sent to employees by VP of Amazon Games, Christoph Hartmann, and seen by The Verge, Amazon is getting rid of its gaming content channel amid larger games layoffs.

“After further evaluation of our businesses, it became clear that we need to focus our resources and efforts to deliver great games to players now and in the future,” Hartmann wrote in the memo. In April this year, Amazon laid off more than 100 employees across its gaming divisions that include Prime Gaming, Game Growth and Amazon Games. According to Hartmann, after the initial restructuring in April, “it became clear that we needed to focus our resources even more on the areas that are growing with the highest potential to drive our business forward”. Facebook Parent Meta Shuts Down Connectivity Division Nearly 10 Years After Its Launch

San Francisco December 13: Meta has reportedly shut down its Connectivity division almost 10 years after launching the initiative. The company will now split the division across its infrastructure and central products teams, reports The Verge.

Launched in 2013, Meta Connectivity (formerly Facebook Connectivity) aimed to increase online usage so users could access the company’s social networks. Meta-Owned Facebook and Messenger To Get Community Chats Feature Soon.

Through the initiative, the company developed and later abandoned a project that involved high-flying, autonomous drones to beam the internet to remote areas of the world. It also focused on creating a low-Earth orbit satellite-based internet system similar to Starlink, but Amazon hired the team working on it last year.

It remains unclear when exactly Meta shut down its Connectivity arm, but the disappearance coincides with last month’s layoffs and reorganisation that eliminated about 11,000 jobs at the company. Facebook Parent Meta Planning To Lay Off ‘Thousands’ of Employees This Week: Reports.

Meta expects further losses in 2023 as the company is investing extensively in CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s costly effort to build the metaverse.

In addition to big initiatives including satellites, drones and an internet-connected helicopter, Meta Connectivity also provided free internet in developing countries, which allowed users to access only Facebook and a few other websites.

CPI (M) criticizes Railway Minister’s statement on Waltair Division

Railway Zone Sadhana Samiti convenor JV Satyanarayana Murthy has condemned the alleged statement of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal in Parliament that Voltaire Division will soon be a thing of the past.

In a statement here on Sunday, Mr. Murthy reminded that the BJP government had announced the South Coast Railway Zone (S Sahr) with headquarters in Visakhapatnam just before the general elections in 2019. He warned that the BJP would have to pay a heavy price if it went ahead with its decision to do away with the Voltaire division altogether. Apart from the demand for new field works to be started soon, a fresh movement will be started to maintain the Voltaire Division.

He said that the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of S Co R had submitted a detailed project report (DPR) to the Railway Board stating that 175 175 crore would be required for the new area. But in the last budget, only Rs 3 crore was allocated to Co R, thereby cheating the people of the state.

The CPI (M) State Assistant Secretary also demanded that the state government convene an all-party meeting to pressurize the Center to maintain the Voltaire Division and expedite the operation of the new area.

Loud AP Government’s decision to audit TTD accounts by CAG

MP Subramanian Swamy has said that he has always opposed disinvestment of public sector units, adding that he was opposed to the Centre’s decision to pull investment in the Visakhapatnam steel plant.

Mr. Swamy told media persons at the Chief Minister’s Camp office on Wednesday that he had also opposed privatization of Air India. Earlier, Sri Swamy was hosted by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for lunch. TTD President YV Subba Reddy was also present.

“Why do you want to disinvest the steel plant, and you cannot go to privatization. We are not selling family silver and you must have a good reason for disinvestment. I am in favor of market reforms, but in poor states, the state should come forward to help them, ”said Mr. Swamy.

He said that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy would soon visit New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

    TTD accounts

Mr. Swamy said that in an unprecedented decision, the Andhra Pradesh government had decided to get the accounts of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India and thanked the Chief Minister for taking a bold decision. He said that former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu never submitted the accounts to the courts despite a petition filed for audit of TTD accounts.

“We are filing it as a consent order between me and the Chief Minister and it has to be changed through a court order. My two prayers are – give Tirupati to the devotees to run it, you can talk to the Hindu Mahasabha, Shankaracharya or you can call for a conference and it is a long process, ” said Mr. Swamy.
