  • Netflix Job Cut: Video Streaming Platform Bids Goodbye to 300 Employees in 2nd Round of Layoffs

San Francisco, June 24: After laying off several employees recently, popular video streaming platform Netflix has once again shown the exit door to an additional 300 employees in the second round of layoffs. According to Variety, the cuts are across multiple business functions in the company, with the bulk of the jobs lost in the US.

These new layoffs hit just a few weeks after the streaming giant — which has a global workforce of roughly 11,000 staffers — made an initial round of reductions of similar size in May.

At that time, Netflix laid off 150 employees, and dozens of contractors and part-time workers. Several top-notch creative professionals from its original series vertical, such as Sebastian Gibbs and Negin Salmasi, were asked to go.

The platform also indicated more rounds of layoffs would be coming this year following that first group, as the platform tried to adjust for its heavily weakened stock price.

A report, in May, said that Netflix saw its stock tumbling by 20 per cent after it reported a loss of 2 lakh paid subscribers in the first quarter of 2022, its first subscriber loss in over a decade. Moreover, it now forecasts a global paid subscriber loss of 20 lakh for the April-June quarter (Q2).

  • Life Cut Short! From Sidhu Moose Wala to XXXTentacion, 5 Famous Rappers Who Were Shot Dead

Gun violence among rappers is nothing new and the latest shooting of Punjabi rapper-singer turned politician Sidhu Moose Wala is only a testimony to the fact that the hip-hop community at large has had a long history where artists have been murdered in broad daylight.

Any violence that results in fatality happens when people instead of settling disagreements with a good old fashioned fistfight or debate decide to callously pull out a weapon and pull the trigger like it’s a game of ‘Grand Theft Auto’.

The first-ever hip-hop artist to be murdered is believed to be Scott La Rock in the year 1987, who was a founding member of the East Coast hip-hop group Boogie Down Productions. Just last year, at least 20 rappers had been fatally shot and some of them had even been internationally celebrated artists. So, let’s have a look at some famous rappers who have been shot dead.

    Sidhu Moose Wala

Moose Wala was shot dead on May 29, 2022, in Jawaharke village of Mansa district, Punjab by unidentified people. He was travelling in his jeep when the incident happened, the responsibility of which has reportedly been claimed by Canada based gangster Goldy Brar. He was 28 and multiple rounds were fired at him.

    Tupac Shakur

Tupac was shot dead at age 25 in 1996 during an ambush when his vehicle was at a red light signal. The rapper was shot 4 times by the assailants and he later succumbed to his wounds.

    Young Dolph

He died in a shooting in Memphis, Tennessee on November 17, 2021, at the age of 36 while picking up cookies for his mother from a bakery he frequently visited whenever he was in his hometown. Reportedly, it was later revealed in an autopsy that he was shot 22 times.

    Notorious B.I.G

Biggie was shot in 1997 when an assailant opened fire on the rapper while his car was at a red light. His autopsy, which was reportedly released 15 years after his death, showed that only the final shot was fatal.

    XXXTentacion

XXXTentacion was murdered when he was shot near a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida on June 18, 2018, at age 20. The attackers had fled the scene in an SUV after stealing his bag containing money. Four of them were later arrested.

  • Madhya Pradesh: Bride Marries Sister’s Groom After Mix-Up Due to Power Cut in Ujjain

Ujjain, May 9: In a bizarre incident reported from a rural region of Madhya Pradesh, two brides were ‘swapped’ due to a long power cut in the area. The strange incident took place while exchanging the vows in the darkness.

The swap came to the notice of the families when the brides reached the residence of their in-laws. The in-laws and the guests were stunned to find this exchange of brides which resulted in a major dispute between the families of the bride and groom.

However, both the families came to an agreement afterward and the mistake during the vows was corrected. West Bengal Horror: Jilted Lover Beheads 15-Year-Old Girl for Allegedly Rejecting Him in Alipurduar

The incident took place in Aslana village of Ujjain district, when Rameshlal’s two daughters, Nikita and Karishma were getting married to Dangwara Bhola and Ganesh, two youths from different families.

Since the brides were in veils and there was no power, things got mixed up, as the dress of both brides were the same. Hence, no one came to know about the mix-up during the time of the wedding rituals. The wedding pandit also got the grooms to do rounds with the ‘changed’ brides. Andhra Pradesh Shocker: Hours Before Her Marriage, Bride Shot Dead by Jilted Lover in Nellore

The mix-up was realised later when the grooms took their brides home. Following a brief dispute, a settlement was reached.

The bride and groom were asked to perform the ceremony once again the next day.

  • South Korea Reportedly Plans To Cut Import Tariffs on Key Materials for Chipmaking to Zero Amid Ukraine Crisis

Seoul: South Korea on Thursday announced plans to cut import tariffs on neon, xenon and krypton — key material gases used for chipmaking — to zero next month in a bid to ease a potential supply crunch amid the Ukraine crisis. The government said it plans to lower duties on the three materials under the quota tariff system to zero from the current 5.5 per cent in April as South Korea heavily relies on their imports from Russia and Ukraine. M2 Silicon Chip Evidence Spotted Ahead of Apple Event 2022: Report.

South Korea will also push to secure crude oil produced overseas through energy development projects by the state-run Korea National Oil Corp. when energy supply strain arises, reports Yonhap News Agency. The move is part of state efforts to tackle potential supply chain disruptions amid escalating tensions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and global sanctions against Moscow.

“If the situation gets protracted, we are very concerned that its impact on the economy will likely expand, given that the effect of the Ukraine crisis on the real economy has begun to be felt,” Finance Minister Hong Nam-ki said.

South Korea’s exports to Russia and Ukraine fell 11 per cent and 99 per cent, respectively, in the first 10 days of March from a year earlier. The country’s consumer inflation rose 3.7 per cent on-year in February, marking the fifth straight month that inflation has grown more than 3 per cent, amid surging energy costs. South Korea joined the multinational move to impose sanctions on Russia, including export controls and removing Moscow from the SWIFT global payment system.

  • Robots With Realistic Pain Expressions Can Cut Error, Bias by Doctors: Study

London, March 14: UK researchers have developed a way to generate more realistic and accurate expressions of pain on the face of medical training robots during physical examination of painful areas. The new approach by the Imperial College London team could help to reduce error and bias by doctors during physical examination.

The findings, published in the journal Scientific Reports, suggest this could also help teach trainee doctors to use clues hidden in patient facial expressions to minimise the force necessary for physical examinations, and may also help to detect and correct early signs of bias in medical students by exposing them to a wider variety of patient identities. Sophia, the Robot’s Digital Artwork Is Up For Auction, Watch Videos of First AI Paintings to be Sold Online.

“Improving the accuracy of facial expressions of pain on these robots is a key step in improving the quality of physical examination training for medical students,” said Sibylle Rerolle, from Imperial’s Dyson School of Design Engineering.

In the study, undergraduate students were asked to perform a physical examination on the abdomen of a robotic patient. Data about the force applied to the abdomen was used to trigger changes in six different regions of the robotic face – known as MorphFace – to replicate pain-related facial expressions.

This method revealed the order in which different regions of a robotic face, known as facial activation units (AUs), must trigger to produce the most accurate expression of pain. The study also determined the most appropriate speed and magnitude of AU activation.

The researchers found that the most realistic facial expressions happened when the upper face AUs (around the eyes) were activated first, followed by the lower face AUs (around the mouth). In particular, a longer delay in activation of the Jaw Drop AU produced the most natural results.

When doctors conduct physical examination of painful areas, the feedback of patient facial expressions is important. However, many current medical training simulators cannot display real-time facial expressions relating to pain and include a limited number of patient identities in terms of ethnicity and gender.

The researchers say these limitations could cause medical students to develop biased practices, with studies already highlighting racial bias in the ability to recognise facial expressions of pain.

“Underlying biases could lead doctors to misinterpret the discomfort of patients – increasing the risk of mistreatment, negatively impacting doctor-patient trust, and even causing mortality,a said co-author Thilina Lalitharatne, from the Dyson School of Design Engineering.

“In the future, a robot-assisted approach could be used to train medical students to normalise their perceptions of pain expressed by patients of different ethnicity and gender.”

  • Type-C Charger for All! EU Law To Force All Portable Electronic Devices and Mobile Phones Including iPhones To Have USB-C Port To Cut E-Waste

London, September 23: The European Union unveiled plans Thursday that would require smartphone makers to adopt a single charging method for mobile devices.

The EU Commission proposed legislation Thursday that would mandate USB-C cables for charging, technology that many device makers have already adopted. The main holdout is Apple, which has resisted the bloc’s efforts for a unified standard. iPhones come with the company’s own Lightning charging port, though the newest models come with cables that can be plugged into a USB-C socket. Also Read | PM Narendra Modi US Visit Schedule: From QUAD Summit to Meeting With Joe Biden and UNGA Address, Know Day-Wise Itinerary As per India Time.

The push by the EU will certainly be cheered by the millions of people who have searched through a drawer full of cables for the right charger. But the EU also wants to cut down on the 11,000 metric tons of electronic waste thrown out every year by Europeans. Also Read | Under Taliban’s Regime, There Is No Scope of Music in Afghanistan as Musicians Fear Ban on the Art Form.

The commission said the typical person living in the EU owns at least three chargers, and use two regularly, but 38% of people report not being able to charge their phones at least once because they couldn’t find a compatible charger. Some 420 million mobile phones or portable electronic devices were sold in the EU last year.

“Chargers power all our most essential electronic devices. With more and more devices, more and more chargers are sold that are not interchangeable or not necessary. We are putting an end to that,” Thierry Breton, the EU’s internal market commissioner, said.

“With our proposal, European consumers will be able to use a single charger for all their portable electronics – an important step to increase convenience and reduce waste.”

Under the proposed law, which must still be scrutinized by the European Parliament, phones, tablets, digital cameras, handheld video game consoles, headsets and headphones sold in the European Union would all have to come with USB-C charging ports.

After attempting for more than a decade to cajole the industry into adopting a common standard, the EU’s executive Commission is pushing the issue.

The team knocked on the door of a house but there was no response. Immediately, an official reached the balcony next to the house and started making videos.

Meanwhile, the resident cleverly reached the rooftop to cut off the illegal connection, and as he was going to cut the wires with a tool, the waiting officials announced their presence, making clear that his attempt had failed.

The Muradnagar Sub Divisional Officer said: “The video that has gone viral is related to our area. The last 15 days have been very challenging for the Electricity Department. We have maintained the power supply day and night. Due to the heat, the demand for electricity is very high as the power consumption increased.”

“On the directions of the senior officers, we conducted day and night vigil so that action could be taken against those who used electricity illegally. After that we decided to conduct raids in Muradnagar.”

“We have taken action against the person seen in the video,” he added.

Mumbai, June 24: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) did not cut salaries, bonuses, or any other compensation of its employees throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, said Nita Ambani, Reliance Foundation’s founder and chairperson on Thursday.

Speaking at the 44th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of RIL, Nita Ambani said, “The Covid-19 pandemic is a humanitarian crisis. It has tested the very spirit of humanity. But even in the darkest hour, our spirit has shone brightly. We as a people have come together and fought this battle.
