  • Sam Altman Sacked: Several Indian Startup Founders Support Ousted OpenAI CEO Who Is Bullish on Country’s AI Talent

Sam Altman Sacked: Several Indian Startup Founders Support Ousted OpenAI CEO Who Is Bullish on Country’s AI Talent

New Delhi, November 18: Several Indian startup founders and CEOs expressed solidarity with ousted OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who came to India in June this year and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that Boards need to better align with founders. BharatPe Co-founder and former managing director Ashneer Grover said that he would love to see some day “60-year-old Board members come together as founders to build anything meaningful”.

“Sam, I am going through the same things in India,” said Grover, who was ousted from fintech firm BharatPe in 2022 over allegations of financial irregularities. Vijay Anand, popularly known as The Startup Guy who has been working to help create a startup ecosystem in the country, said that it is irony that “we have stifling on one side and on the other hand CEOs that are too smart and commit frauds and siphon money out and the board watches helplessly”. Sam Altman Sacked: OpenAI Board Will Go After My Shares if I Go Off, Says Ousted OpenAI CEO.

“Perhaps what is needed is a governance AI that monitors and will ensure business is above board and will escalate to the board as required,” Anand posted on ‘X’. In June, Altman met PM Modi and discussed India’s incredible tech ecosystem with him. Altman, who also addressed students and others at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi), said that he had a great conversation with PM Modi.

“Great conversation with @narendramodi discussing India’s incredible tech ecosystem and how the country can benefit from AI,” Altman posted on ‘X’. “Really enjoyed all my meetings with people in the @PMOIndia,” he added. Sam Altman-Founded Worldcoin’s Crypto Token Crashes 12% After His Ouster From OpenAI.

Altman also faced controversy during his India visit when his comment was taken out of context. Altman was heard saying in a video that India’s chances of developing a ChatGPT-like tool were “hopeless”. He later clarified that his response had been taken out of context, emphasising that he was specifically addressing the question of competing with OpenAI with a mere $10 million investment.

Altman encouraged Indian startups to explore new avenues and contribute innovative ideas to the world. Last month, Altman invested in an AI startup, founded by two Indian-origin teenagers Aryan Sharma and Ayush Pathak in the Silicon Valley in the US. The startup called Induced AI, founded this year, has raised $2.3 million in its seed-funding round led by Altman and VC firm Peak XV, along with “an incredible set of investors”.

New Delhi, Aug 6:  Capturing the milestones the country has achieved in its 75-year journey since independence, software major Google has unveiled an online project, drawing from rich archives and featuring artistic illustrations to tell the story of India.

The project — “India ki Udaan” — executed by Google Arts and Culture celebrates the achievements of the country and is “themed on the unwavering and undying spirit of India over these past 75 years”. Vice Presidential Election 2022 Live Updates: Opposition’s Margaret Alva Takes On NDA’s Jagdeep Dhankhar; Polling To Begin at 10 Am.

It was officially launched at a glittering event held at the Sunder Nursery here on Friday in the presence of Union Culture and Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy and senior officials of the culture ministry and Google.

As part of the countrywide celebrations to commemorate 75 years of independence, Google also announced its collaboration with the Ministry of Culture focused “on reaching informative online content that showcases the contributions of Indians and the evolution of India since 1947 to support the government’s year-long ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ programme”, the software giant said in a statement.

It also announced that its popular Doodle4Google contest for 2022, themed on “In the next 25 years, my India will…”, is now open for entries to the students of Classes 1-10.

“The winner of this year’s Doodle4Google will see their artwork on the Google homepage in India on November 14 and win a Rs 5 lakh college scholarship, a Rs 2 lakh technology package for their school or non-profit organisation, a recognition of achievement, Google hardware and fun Google collectibles. Four group winners and 15 finalists will also win exciting prizes,” it said.

Reddy urged the Google team to create a special doodle on “Har Ghar Tiranga”, which would encourage its employees and others to enthusiastically take part in the campaign.

In his speech, the minister also said Google could help the culture ministry in digital mapping of the boundaries of its over 3,000 centrally-protected monuments that will help in better monitoring of the sites and checking encroachment.

It can also help in digitisation of rare archival material, he added.

“Therefore, we urge the Google team to be a partner in the government’s transformative journey as also to promote India’s tourism destinations,” Reddy said.

“To mark 75 years of India’s independence, Google announced the launch of a series of special initiatives across its products and services that will offer content and experiences created especially for the occasion to hundreds of millions of Indians through the anniversary year,” the statement said.

The centrepiece of its celebrations is a new online collection titled “India Ki Udaan”, available on the Google Arts and Culture website. It pays tributes to India’s rich cultural history and includes iconic moments from the last 75 years.

Published in English and Hindi, it allows people to explore more than 120 illustrations and 21 stories created by 10 talented artists, alongside exhibitions from various institutions — including the Ministry of Tourism, the Museum of Art and Photography, the Heritage Directorate of the Indian Railways, the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Dastkari Haat Samiti.

“This initiative offers a unique view of India’s remarkable moments and lets people discover some of the most memorable moments in India’s modern history, its iconic personalities, its proudest scientific and sporting achievements, and how women in India continue to inspire the world.

This commemorative collection will be expanded with a unique blend of archives and artistry for people in India and across the globe,” Google said.

Merging technologies and India’s rich cultural heritage, the new Google Arts and Culture collection, “India Ki Udaan”, (literally translated as “India takes flight”), “is themed on the unwavering and undying spirit of India over these past 75 years”, it added.

Simon Rein, senior programme manager at Google Arts and Culture, told PTI that the project “marries the rich archival content with artistic talent as demonstrated by illustrators”.

A physical representation of the new digital collection was also set up at the venue, with a kite-shaped digital screen, pictures with augmented reality experience and other tech-driven experiences.

Rein said kite has been used as an “optimistic metaphor” to describe India’s journey in the last 75 years as also to engage and educate the audience at home and also those who are not from India but wish to learn about its story.

In its 10th year in India, Google Arts and Culture has showcased the country’s rich culture in many ways. Working with more than 100 partners in India, it has brought the country’s cultural heritage to people all over the world.

  • 5G In India: Fifth Generation Telecom Services To Roll Out In Country’s Four Metros, Selected Cities in 2022

New Delhi, December 27: The Fifth Generation or 5G telecom services are set to be rolled out in selected cities in India in 2022. The cities which are set to get the 5G telecom services in 2022 include Gurugram, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jamnagar, Ahmadabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Pune, and Gandhinagar.

Leading telecom service providers Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea, have established 5G trials sites in these cities. “These Metros and big cities would be the first places for launch of 5G services in the country, next year,” the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said on Monday. The fifth-generation is the latest upgrade in the long-term evolution (LTE) mobile broadband networks. 5G in India: DoT Nod to Telecom Service Providers for Conducting 5G Technology and Spectrum Trials.

While 4G was a great leap forward, allowing people to stream music and video on the go, 5G is designed to connect many more types of devices than smartphones and offers far higher speed and capacity. Apart from the leading telecom operators and smartphone manufacturers, the government is also involved actively to facilitate the rollout of 5G services. The Department of Telecom has roped in leading research institutions for development and testing of 5G technology.

Eight agencies – Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, Indian Institute of Science (IISC) Bangalore, Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering & Research (SAMEER) and Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology (CEWiT) – are involved in the research project called ‘Indigenous 5G Test bed project’. The Indigenous 5G Test bed project started in 2018 and is set to be completed by December 31, 2021. The project has been funded by the Department of Telecom. The department has spent Rs224 crore on this project. DoT-funded Indigenous 5G Testbed Project in Final Stages; Completion Likely by Dec 31.

“Costing Rs 224 crore, the project is likely to be completed by December 31, 2021, paving the way for end-to-end testing of 5G User Equipments (UEs) and network equipment by 5G stakeholders developing 5G products/services/usecases, including indigenous start-ups, SMEs, Academia and Industry in the country,” the Department of Telecom said.

The indigenous 5G test bed, a visionary technology development project initiated in telecom space, will enable development, testing and proliferation of 5G technology system components, cross-sectoral use cases, besides setting up the foundation for the development of “6G Technology landscape” in the country, it added.

Earlier this month, Telecom Secretary K Rajaraman expressed hope that 5G test bed would be rolled out in early January. “We hope to roll out this 5G test bed in early January which will enable SMEs and other parts of industries to come and test their solution on a working platform,” Rajaraman said at India Mobile Congress on December 9. Test bed refers to creating a specific environment for testing the products or services. It includes hardware, software, operating system, and network configuration.

As the testing is in the final stage, allocation of the spectrum would be critical in deciding the fate of the commercial launch of 5G in the country. The Department of Telecom has allocated spectrum to Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea and MTNL for 5G trials. Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and Mavenir also engaged in the trials.

In September 2021, the Department of Telecom (DoT) sent a reference to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), seeking recommendations for the auction of spectrum identified for International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT)/ 5G with regard to a reserve price, band plan, block size, the quantum of spectrum to be auctioned and conditions of auctions in 526-698 MHZ,700 MHZ, 800 MHZ, 900 MHZ, 1800 MHZ, 2100 MHZ, 2300 MHZ, 2500 MHZ, 3300-3670 MHZ, and 24.25-28.5 GHZ bands for 5G public as well as private 5G networks, for meeting the spectrum requirements of captive 5G applications of the industry (Industry 4.0).

“Process of assignment of frequencies to TSPs would be initiated at the earliest possible,” DoT said. 5G mainly works in 3 bands, low, mid, and high-frequency spectrum. In the low band spectrum, the speed is limited to 100 Mbps (Megabits per second). The mid-band spectrum, on the other hand, offers higher speeds compared to the low band but has limitations in terms of coverage area and penetration of signals.

Internet speed in the high-band spectrum goes up to 20 Gbps (giga bits per second). The highest internet speed in 4G has been recorded at 1 Gbps. While 4G networks are mostly designed for phones, 5G networks is designed for much more flexible use, replacing the need for many special-purpose networks. They can even function as many separate networks – all at the same time.

LIC IPO: Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs Gives Green Signal to Country’s Largest IPO

New Delhi, July 12: Keeping the government’s plan to come up with the mega IPO of insurance major LIC in the ongoing financial year intact, the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given in-principle approval to the initial public offering (IPO)

“We have also fixed the way for the offer and how investors should be roped in to the insurer. With this, the road has been cleared for the IPO that in any case we were planning for FY22,” the official said.

The highly placed source further told IANS that now the alternative mechanism (AM) or the Group of Ministers would sit to decide on the timing and quantum of shares to be offered. The appointment of managers for the issue will also follow.

Post the Union Budget FY22, the government has taken several legislative and executive steps to pave way for the mega IPO.

As per the amendments proposed under the Finance Bill 2021, the authorised share capital of LIC shall be Rs 25,000 crore, divided into 2,500 crore shares of Rs 10 each.

The capital market regulator SEBI has also eased the minimum public offer norms in a bid to pave the way for the LIC IPO.

In February, the board of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has decided to recommend changes in regulations, and for issuers with post issue market capital exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore, the requirement of minimum public offering (MPO) will be reduced from 10 per cent of post issue market capital to Rs 10,000 crore along with 5 per cent of the incremental amount beyond Rs 1 lakh crore.

The government expects to bring the IPO around Diwali this year.

According to the Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) K.V. Subramanian, the LIC IPO may fetch the government around Rs 1 lakh crore.

Bangladesh TV hires country’s first transgender news anchor

Tashnuva Anan Shishir, who previously worked as a rights activist and actor, made her debut on Dhaisha-based Boishakhi TV on International Women’s Day.

    Some changes are already visible.
