SpaceX Delays Second Orbital Flight Test of Starship To November 18, Elon Musk Confirms

San Francisco, November 18: SpaceX on Friday delayed the second orbital flight test of Starship and Super Heavy Booster to Saturday, CEO Elon Musk confirmed on X. Musk said the delay was due to the need for a hardware swap on the powerful rocket. “We need to replace a grid fin actuator, so launch is postponed to Saturday,” Musk wrote on X.

Grid fins are crucial aerodynamic components that help control and stabilise the rocket during its descent phase, ensuring it can land upright. Earlier, SpaceX had confirmed Friday for the test, with a two-hour launch window starting at 8 a.m., following launch approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). IBM Stops Advertising on X As Elon Musk Continues To Endorse ‘Far-Right Viewpoints’ and Agrees With Posts Promoting Antisemitism.

Elon Musk Confirms Delay in Second Orbital Flight Test of Starship:

The FAA said it “has given license authorisation for the second launch of the SpaceX Starship Super Heavy vehicle”. “The FAA determined SpaceX met all safety, environmental, policy and financial responsibility requirements,” the agency wrote in a statement on X.

The second flight test will debut a hot-stage separation system and a new electronic Thrust Vector Control (TVC) system for Super Heavy Raptor engines, in addition to reinforcements to the pad foundation and a water-cooled steel flame deflector, among many other enhancements, the company added. On April 20, the first flight test of SpaceX’s fully integrated Starship and Super Heavy rocket, built to take humanity to the Moon, Mars and beyond, exploded shortly after lift off, raining dust and debris on residents in Port Isabel, Texas. Elon Musk and Tim Cook Greet Chinese President Xi Jinping During Gala Dinner Hosted By US-China Business Council and the National Committee on US-China Relations.

The rocket launch also spread plumes of potentially hazardous debris endangering human lives as well as habitats of animals, raising concerns by environmental groups, following which the FAA grounded the launch. The FAA also identified 63 actions that SpaceX needed to implement on the Starship and at the launch site before making further attempts. SpaceX said that the “lessons learned” from the first Starship launch are contributing to “several upgrades” to the vehicle and ground infrastructure. “This rapid iterative development approach has been the basis for all of SpaceX’s major innovative advancements, including Falcon, Dragon, and Starlink.”

  • Amazon Confirms Layoffs; Employees Enraged, Say ‘Horrendous Way To Treat People’

Amazon Confirms Layoffs; Employees Enraged, Say ‘Horrendous Way To Treat People’

San Francisco, November 17 : As Big Tech goes through the layoff season, e-commerce giant Amazon has confirmed job losses at the company, saying that in the current macroeconomic environment, some teams are “making adjustments” amid “consolidation of some teams and programmes”.

The company did not reveal the exact number of employees being hit although earlier reports put the number at 10,000 employees or 3 per cent of its workforce.  Amazon Unveils Design of New Prime Air Delivery ‘MK30’ Drone, To Enter Service in 2024.

“As part of our annual operating planning review process, we always look at each of our businesses and what we believe we should change,” a company spokesperson was quoted as saying TechCrunch late on Wednesday.

“As we’ve gone through this, given the current macroeconomic environment (as well as several years of rapid hiring), some teams are making adjustments, which in some cases means certain roles are no longer necessary,” the spokesperson added. “We don’t take these decisions lightly, and we are working to support any employees who may be affected.” Amazon Prime Members Get Access to 100 Million Songs With New Features and Ad-Free Content.

Senior vice president of Devices and Services, Dave Limp, also wrote an internal post, saying that “after a deep set of reviews, we recently decided to consolidate some teams and programmes”. “One of the consequences of these decisions is that some roles will no longer be required,” Limp wrote.

“In cases where employees cannot find a new role within the company, we will support the transition with a package that includes a separation payment, transitional benefits, and external job placement support,” Limp added.

The massive job cuts have hit several divisions, especially the Alexa virtual assistant business and the Luna cloud gaming unit.

“Amazon employees were called into meetings with their managers across the country Tuesday, and many were told they had two months to find another job internally or accept severance payment,” the Washington Post earlier reported.

Employees reacted harshly to the decision. “The truth of the matter is that if the company was more transparent, we wouldn’t have this shitshow. Now you have most of the population wondering if they are next,” a senior company manager told Recode.

“I don’t even know if I want to work for this company any more. This is a horrendous way to treat people,” another Amazon senior manager said.

Meta, Twitter, Salesforce and others have already sacked thousands of employees, with Meta firing more than 11,000 alone.

New Delhi, Nov 13: After facing a barrage of fake profiles with verified badges, Elon Musk on Sunday said that the $8 Blue subscription service, pulled back by the company after facing strong criticism, is likely to be back by the end of next week.

  • Twitter Confirms Partial Outage Due to Internal Systems Change

San Francisco: As several users complained of facing trouble while using Twitter, the microblogging platform acknowledged that it suffered a partial outage and blamed “internal systems change” for it. However, the platform said it has now fixed the issue. Twitter To Let Users Know if Embedded Tweet Has Been Edited.

“We fixed it! We made an internal systems change that didn’t go as planned and have rolled it back. Twitter should now be loading as expected. Sorry about that!” the platform tweeted on late Tuesday.

According to Downdetector, more than 33,000 users had reported an outage of the service, which appeared to have started shortly after 2 p.m Tuesday. Almost half the complaints were about the app, and 45 per cent about the website version of the microblogging platform.

“It was a bit annoying that api.twitterstat.us showed all green ‘All Systems Operational’ while my Twitter web client was not loading during the outage,” a user wrote. “This is why Elon Musk had to buy you,” taking a dig at the platform, another user wrote.

Last month, the platform suffered a mega outage as several users worldwide had error messages like “this page is down”. While 65 per cent were unable to log in to the Twitter website, 34 per cent had issues with the app. Several users also faced “over capacity” error messages across Twitter web, mobile and the TweetDeck app.

  • Netflix Confirms an Ad-Supported Tier Amid Second Round Layoffs

New Delhi, June 24:  Streaming giant Netflix, which has laid off 450 employees in two tranches so far, is set to launch an ad-supported tier by the end of the year to reduce its losses and bring more users on to the platform.

Netflix’s Co-CEO Ted Sarandos confirmed during the Cannes Lions advertising festival that the future of the streaming giant will include ads, reports Hollywood Reporter. Netflix Job Cut: Video Streaming Platform Bids Goodbye to 300 Employees in 2nd Round of Layoffs

“We are adding an ad tier. We’re not adding ads to Netflix as you know it today. We’re adding an ad tier for folks who say, ‘Hey, I want a lower price and I’ll watch ads,'” Sarandos told ‘Sway’ podcast host Kara Swisher.

Sarandos confirmed that the streaming service is in talks with potential ad-sales partners.

As the company’s share price has tanked, there has been growing speculation that Netflix can be acquired soon.

Sarandos admitted that a buyout “is always a reality, so we have to be wide-eyed about that”.

However, he insisted that “we have plenty of scale and profitability and free cash flow to continue to grow this business”.

Its rival Disney Plus also plans to launch a similar ad-based offering by the end of the year, starting with the US, before going global.

Netflix saw its stock tumbling by 20 per cent after it reported a loss of 2 lakh paid subscribers in the first quarter of 2022, its first subscriber loss in over a decade.

Moreover, it now forecasts a global paid subscriber loss of 20 lakh for the April-June quarter (Q2).

After laying off 150 employees recently, the popular video streaming platform has once again shown the exit door to an additional 300 employees in the second round of layoffs.

The cuts are across multiple business functions in the company, with the bulk of the jobs lost in the US.

The platform has indicated more rounds of layoffs would be coming this year.
