  • Lenovo To Skip CES 2022 Due to Omicron Scare

    San Francisco: Tech major Lenovo has joined a growing list of companies that have decided not to attend the ‘CES 2022’ in-person, as the Omicron variant spreads fast across the globe, especially in the US where more than 73 per cent cases now belong to the new Covid variant. CES 2022: Amazon, Meta, Twitter, Pinterest & T-Mobile To Skip the Event Due to Omicron Scare.

    In a tweet, Lenovo said: “After closely monitoring the current trends surrounding COVID, it is in the best interest of the health and safety of our employees, customers, partners, and our communities to suspend all on-site activity in Las Vegas”.

    “While this is a change in plans, we are excited for you all to see our latest technology launching as scheduled on January 4 and January 5,” the company posted late on Wednesday.

    The world’s biggest consumer electronics show ‘CES 2022’ appears to be falling apart as some of the major tech companies like Amazon, Meta, Twitter, Pinterest and T-Mobile have announced not to attend the event in-person. T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert, one of the CES 2022’s featured speakers, has announced that his company won’t be attending the world’s largest electronics show next month.

    In a statement, the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which organises the CES event, said they will hold the event as planned.

    “CES 2022 will be in person on January 5-8 in Las Vegas with strong safety measures in place, and our digital access is also available for people that don’t wish to, or can’t travel to Las Vegas. Our mission remains to convene the industry and give those who cannot attend in person the ability to experience the magic of CES digitally,” the association said in a statement.

    “While we recently received 42 exhibitor cancellations (less than 7 per cent of our exhibit floor), since last Friday we’ve added 60 new exhibitors for our in person event,” the CTA added.

    The world’s most influential tech event in Las Vegas is slated to showcase some first-time innovations around Blockchain-based non-fungible tokens (NFTs), remote health solutions, self-driving cars, gaming, food and space tech. The annual event — happening in the shadow of the fast-spreading Omicron Covid variant which is now present in more than 90 countries — is likely to bring together more than 1,800 companies under one roof in the casino capital of the world.

    T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert, one of the CES 2022’s featured speakers, has announced that his company won’t be attending the world’s largest electronics show next month.

    “T-Mobile will continue to serve as a CES sponsor and title sponsor of the DRL Championship Race but the vast majority of our team will not be travelling to Las Vegas,” the company said in a statement. “Additionally, T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert will no longer be offering a keynote in-person or virtually.”

    Amazon has also decided not to attend the show in-person, reports The Verge. “Other companies that might make a sizable impact if they ditched ‘CES 2022’ include Samsung and GM, which also have featured keynotes”, the report said late on Tuesday.

    T-Mobile, Meta, Twitter, Pinterest, and iHeartRadio have all announced they won’t attend the annual Las Vegas expo as Covid cases surge in the US. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA), which runs CES, stated that it still plans to host an in-person show.

    “At this point, we’re very much focused on having this show and doing it safely and putting the right protocols in place to ensure that people feel comfortable with it,” a CTA spokesperson told Adweek.

    Samsung and LG Electronics, South Korea’s two biggest consumer electronics companies, are set to unveil a slew of innovative products at the CES.   • OnePlus May Reveal OnePlus 10 Series at a Physical Event During CES 2022

    OnePlus, the Chinese tech giant will host a physical launch event on January 5, 2022. A Tipster who goes by the name of Max Jambor has shared the launch invite of the same on his Twitter account. The launch invite reads, “Let’s catch up in Las Vegas on January 5. Save the Date”. The event coincides with the first day of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022. It is unclear which products will OnePlus launch during the event. OnePlus 10 Series To Be Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Chipset: Report.

    It is rumoured that the company might unveil the OnePlus 10 flagship series during the event. Also, previous reports had claimed that the OnePlus 10 Series could be launched in January 2022. The Chinese phone maker has never launched a smartphone during the CES, except for the OnePlus Concept One, which was showcased in 2020.

    OnePlus 10 Series will comprise of OnePlus 10 and OnePlus 10 Pro smartphones. Both devices are speculated to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC paired with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. The Pro model might come with a 6.7-inch Quad HD+ display with a refresh rate of 120Hz. OnePlus 10 Pro is said to feature a triple rear camera system consisting of a 48MP main lens, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and an 8MP telephoto snapper. At the front, there could be a 32MP camera.

    Now, this is very much in contrast with Samsung’s strategy with CES as the brand usually doesn’t launch smartphones at CES. Do note, the company hosted its Galaxy Unpacked event a few days after the CES to announce its Galaxy S21 lineup. Launching the Galaxy S21 FE at CES 2022, Samsung might see this as an opportunity to align its next-gen Galaxy S22 lineup to its usual timeline, which is around February. However, there’s no official announcement on the same from the company yet.

    Coming to specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Fan Edition is said to get a 6.4-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a punch-hole design. The panel has a refresh rate of 120Hz and houses a 32MP selfie camera. For photography, there will be a triple camera module at the back. The handset is likely to be powered by a 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging.
