Google To Reportedly Shut Down Its Mobile Shopping App for iOS & Android Devices by June 2021

San Francisco: Google has announced to shut down its mobile shopping app for both iOS and Android devices by June this year. The mobile shopping app will, however, be available on the desktop (web) version. It means that shopping.google.com website will remain active. The company confirmed the decision to 9to5Google on Sunday. Google To Skip Mobile World Congress 2021 Due to COVID-19 Travel Restrictions: Report.

“Within the next few weeks, we’ll no longer be supporting the Shopping app. All of the functionality the app offered users is available on the Shopping tab,” the company said in a statement.

“We’ll continue building features within the Shopping tab and other Google surfaces, including the Google app, that make it easy for people to discover and shop for the products they love,” it added.

The mobile shopping app allowed users to choose from among thousands of online stores and make purchases using their Google accounts.

The move comes as Google has been expanding shopping functionality in Search, Image Search, and YouTube, while increasingly leveraging augmented reality, the report mentioned.

Xda Developers discovered that the term “sunset” had been added to several strings of code in the Shopping app, suggesting the apps were being discontinued.

WhatsApp Reportedly Testing Easy Migration of Chat History Between iOS and Android Devices

San Francisco, April 6: Facebook-owned WhatsApp is reportedly testing the ability to easily migrate chat history between an iPhone and an Android device. According to a 9To5 Google report, this feature is part of a strategic change in the WhatsApp app. The company had been exploring the possibility of using WhatsApp on multiple devices at the same time and the ability to migrate chat history between iOS and Android is part of this effort, the report said. Booking a Private Driver via WhatsApp Now Possible, Here’s How.

When the user tries to link a device having a different operative system to his WhatsApp account, it’s always needed to update to the latest WhatsApp update available on the App Store or TestFlight, in order to avoid any compatibility error with the Android version, reports WABetaInfo.

The ability to use the same WhatsApp account on multiple devices is one of the most requested features by users, as well as an iPad version of Instagram. WhatsApp now has more than 1.5 billion monthly active users (MAUs) who are exchanging nearly 60 billion messages on a single day. On February 19, 2014, Facebook acquired WhatsApp for $19 billion, its largest acquisition to date. It currently has over 200 million monthly active users in India.

Microsoft Ends Support for Cortana on Android & iOS Devices

New Delhi, April 1: Microsoft has announced to end support for its visual assistant Cortana on both Android and iOS devices. Microsoft has also removed the Cortana app from both the App Store and Google’s Play Store, beginning March 31. The company first launched Cortana for iOS and Android in December 2015. The app was designed to connect Windows 10 PCs and mobile phones but failed to gain momentum as Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri won the race. “As we announced in July, we will soon be ending support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS, as Cortana continues its evolution as a productivity assistant,” Microsoft said in an update. “After March 31, 2021, the Cortana mobile app on your phone will no longer be supported,” said Microsoft.

According to Microsoft, the Cortana content people created — such as reminders and lists — will no longer function in the Cortana mobile app, but can still be accessed through Cortana in Windows. Also, Cortana reminders, lists, and tasks are automatically synced to the Microsoft To Do app, which people can download on their phones for free.

In 2019, the company first withdrew the Cortana for iOS app from a number of regions. Last year, Microsoft said it will make productivity the focus of the digital assistant and as part of the shift, its digital assistant Cortana will lose some of its more consumer-facing features, such as the ability to play music and control smart home devices.
