World champion PV Sindhu finished second in the finals of the Swiss Open on Sunday after being completely outclassed by Spain’s Olympic gold medalist Carolina Marin in the title match of the Lop-side women’s singles category. The 25-year-old Indian, who won the prestigious World Championship gold medal here in 2019, could not match Marin’s speed and accuracy during her 12–21 5–21 defeat in just 12 minutes in the final. This was Sindhu’s third consecutive defeat to Marin, who won both Super 1000 events in Thailand in January before becoming runner-up in the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals.
7th-ranked Sindhu, playing her first final in 18 months, entered the match against Marin with a head-to-record 5-8, losing her last two matches against the former world No.1.
No 7 Indian in the world, who did not play a single game in the last four games this week, however, failed to call his ‘A’ game under pressure as Marin beat Trump to claim his third title of the year Lowered.

The current world No. 3 Marin also defeated Sindhu in the final of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Sindhu will compete on the Super 1000 event All England Championship USD 850,000 to be held from 17 to 21 March next month.
