A government railway police sub-inspector, along with his constable brother, allegedly murdered his daughter, an engineer, in Ballabhgarh to marry her out of caste in a family of low financial status. Both the accused have been arrested.
Accused Sohan Pal and his brother Shiv Kumar tried to consider the murder a suicide and cremated the body in his ancestral village Saharola without informing the police.
However, Sagar, the husband of the deceased Komal, suspected the hooliganism and complained to the police and accused the woman’s father and uncle of murder. The police registered a case against both of them at the City Ballabhgarh police station and arrested them on Friday.
Komal and Sagar fell for each other five years ago while doing engineering from a private institute in Faridabad. After his bachelor’s degree, Sagar, a resident of Mukesh Colony in Ballabhgarh, worked as an electrical engineer in a private company, but Komal decided to pursue further studies.
Sought protection
The two got married at the Arya Samaj temple on 8 February and Komal’s parents were unhappy with their relationship. After court intervention, Sohan Pal agreed to their relationship. Then both of them got engaged with the consent of both the families on 19 February and the marriage was fixed for 15 March. But the marriage was postponed. On March 18, Sagar received a call from Komal’s friend that he had committed suicide.
Sagar’s parents went to Komal’s house to learn that it was closed and that her family had gone to her ancestral village. When they reach the village, the woman’s family tells them that Komal has killed herself.
Caste, financial status
Inspector Sudeep Singh, SHO of Ballabhgarh, said that Komal’s family was opposed to the marriage as they belonged to different castes. Also, the woman’s family was financially better than her in-laws.
During interrogation, the accused told the police that Shiv Kumar strangled Komal.
