Election officials seized 4 84.14 lakh cash, 24.54 kg gold, 80.7 kg silver, 1,175 kg gutkha and 5,700 kg rice after the announcement of the election.
A static monitoring team seized 11.8 kg of gold from a vehicle in Velachery assembly constituency on Tuesday.
According to a press release from the Chennai District Election Office, the value of the seized materials in the 16 assembly constituencies in the period from February 27 to March 16 is ₹ 11.78 crore.

According to standard operating procedure, election officials cash content of more than 10,000 and. 50,000 cash has been directed to be seized. Cash in the talukas will be routed to the sub-treasury. The Income Tax Department will also examine cash or material of more than 10 lakhs seized by the election officials.
After the election was announced in the city on 27 February, there was a total supervision of 48 flying squads and 48 static surveillance teams. The number of flying squads has increased to 144 since last week. In addition to flying squads, a total of 48 static surveillance teams are also checking vehicles around the city 24 hours a day.
An official said that officials of the District Election Office held a meeting with the banks, seeking information about the unusual transaction before the election. “Information about unusual transactions will be shared in banks this week.”
