Stanley Doctor transferred to harassment charge

Following instructions from the state government, the Health Department made the transfer and initiated departmental action against a senior resident of Government Stanley Medical College Hospital, Department of General Surgery, with some postgraduate medical students complaining of sexual harassment.

According to hospital officials, the students had complained to the government about the alleged sexual harassment after which the dean was asked to conduct an investigation and submit a report.

Dean of the Hospital P.W. Balaji formed an 11-member committee consisting of nine women professors. The Inquiry Committee was headed by the Deputy Principal of the college. The heads of the Departments of Surgery and Surgical Gastroenterology were part of the committee.

A hospital official said, “The committee conducted an investigation and submitted a detailed report in a seal cover which was submitted to the Directorate of Medical Education (DME)”.
