Corporation Commissioner G. Kannan has warned of stern action against shops and establishments which have neglected or violated the COVID-19 guidelines.
Officers have been directed to seal such establishments for at least 10 days.
With the number of consecutive active cases, it is planned to tighten the security protocol. “This idea is not to harass shopkeepers or shopkeepers. We must ensure that the virus is kept under control.
Therefore, as a precautionary measure, shops and commercial undertakings have been instructed to follow careful guidelines and cooperate with civil authorities.
A health department official said that after the steady increase in COVID-19 cases in some states of North India, people traveling from those destinations would come under scrutiny at railway stations. “If necessary, they will be instructed to quarantine for a week,” the official said.
Monitoring at check posts has also been intensified. People from states like Kerala and Maharashtra were being investigated.
The corporation commissioner said that pregnant women, children and senior citizens should stay indoors. As long as there was an absolute necessity, they should not venture outside, he insisted. “It’s not that the situation is worrisome, but it’s just a precaution,” he clarified.
After going a long way in defeating the virus in the last 10 months, doctors at the Government Medical College Hospital said the number of active cases was increasing in small numbers, but the increase was steady. “The infection is not viral, but it is better not to take the risk at this time,” he said.
Meanwhile, the government has also appealed to people above the age of 45 to get vaccinated at the designated centers. There was no apprehension about a vaccine, a notification said.
