Sharjeel Khan returns as Pakistan’s name for South Africa, Zimbabwe series

All-rounder Mohammad Hafeez returned after missing the home series against South Africa while Sharjeel Khan returned to the T20I squad as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday announced a 35-man squad to tour South Africa and Zimbabwe. The Pakistan team has been given three ODIs and four T20Is against South Africa and three T20Is and two Tests against Zimbabwe. Seven T20Is and two Tests will be counted in the ICC T20I and Test rankings, while three ODIs against South Africa will be part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League – a 13-team competition with the top seven sides on their own. Pakistan’s 35-member squad will leave for Johannesburg for three ODIs and four T20 matches against South Africa on 26 March. They will then fly to Bulawayo on April 17 for three T20Is and two Tests against Zimbabwe.

After the disappearance of the South Africa series, white ball vice-captains Shadab and Hafeez returned to the team, while Sharjeel returned to the T20I squad four years after their 15th and last T20 match.

Chief selector Muhammad Wasim said in an official statement, “Sharjeel Khan has made a comeback to the T20I squad. Although he is not exactly where we want him, he is not far away.”

The form he has shown in recent domestic T20 matches, he deserves the chance to improve his fitness further and shows that he still has the ability to win big matches for Pakistan.

In Karachi and Rawalpindi, two changes have been made in the Test side of the 20 players who defeated South Africa by seven wickets and 95 runs respectively.
