Norwegian midfielder Jens Petter Hauge snatched a late equalizer to save a point for AC Milan, whose poor home run continued on a 1–1 draw against 10-man Sampdoria on Saturday. Milan are five points behind the leaders of Milan, who travel to Bologna later on Saturday, with their city rivals also having a game in hand. They are five points ahead of champions Juventus and Atlanta, who play against Torino and Udinese on Saturday, respectively. “Milan has led a complex life for himself,” said Stefano Pioli, whose side have not won at home in nearly two months.
“When you cannot mentally get into the game right now, the difficulties of the match increase. Today we made it expensive because we could not win.”
Sampadoria had dominated the game in the first half-hour with Milan to save from goalkeeper Jianluigi Donnarumma, who denied Manolo Gabbiadini early and Morton Thorsby with a header.
And a fool of the hosts Theo Hernández was behind the hosts’ feet after 57 minutes of the pass and allowed the experienced Fabio Quagliella to fumble and cradle from Donarumma in a distance that was off his target.
It was 38-year-old Quagliarella’s 10th goal to reach double figures for the fifth consecutive league league season, with his 174 Serie A goals making him the top scorer active in the Italian top flight.
A man went down shortly after Claudio Ranieri’s side left with Adrian Silva taking a second yellow card for a foul on Samu Castillejo.
Annette Rebic came off the bench for the hosts and was denied by Hafen Kalhanoglu by Sampdoria goalkeeper Emil Audero before the Hug broke through beating the opponent and rolling the ball into the corner.
Promoted
The hosts missed a chance for a late winner with Zlatan Ibrahimovic sending in via Frank Casey, who worked the woodwork.
Milan’s push for the first league title since 2011 is from their poor home form, winning only two of the league’s eight home games in 2011.
