Google’s video streaming platform YouTube has made it easier for its users to search on its platform. This will be done through video chapters being available on Search page to make it easier for users to “make even more informed decisions.”
Video chapters in Search page
Till now, when users browsed for a video to watch on YouTube, they would see a thumbnail image of each video. Now, they will be able to see video chapters directly in the search page for available videos.
When this feature is made available, it will show time-stamped images detailing the different topics covered in videos. Also, it will let users jump directly to the section most relevant to their specific interest.
YouTube explains this through an example, “Let’s say you’re looking for a good sourdough recipe and want to work on your kneading technique. With these new search results, you can see all the steps in the video, from feeding the starter to pulling the bread out of the oven — and skip right to the chapter on kneading.”
YouTube for desktop allows users to see a snippet of each video and a similar feature is also now coming for mobile.
Search results from other languages with automatically translated captions
With an aim to “make information more accessible and inclusive for all users globally,” YouTube said that it will start showing search results from other languages with automatically translated captions, titles and descriptions when relevant content in the local language isn’t available.
To start with, YouTube will start supplementing search results with English videos and expand to more languages.
Google search results in YouTube
This feature is already in testing mode in India and Indonesia and is now considering expanding it to other regions. This feature shows search results with website links and other formats from Google Search when a user searches for it on YouTube.
